8 GOOD FAT – GOOD LIFE10 STRUGGLING TO LOSE THE WEIGHT?

11 BE WELL, LOOK GOOD, LIVE LONG12 THE VERDICT IS IN

14 MAX KIDS

A recent study of the world’s leading countries found that American men had the shortest life expectancy. U.S. women didn’t fare much better – they had the second shortest.

One major reason Americans die too soon is their sedentary lifestyle. Couch-potatoism leads to obesity and extra fat leaves your body more susceptible to nearly all forms of disease. In addition, lack of exercise, no matter what you weigh, still puts you at a higher risk for getting sick and dying young. I always say, “If you want to live longer – KEEP MOVING! It’s hard to hit a moving target.”

How much lean muscle you have compared to body fat matters for more than dress sizes and Speedos. Better lean muscle to body fat ratios play a big role in living longer and enjoying a higher quality of life. Plus – yes, you’ll look hotter no matter what you are or aren’t wearing.

Another key factor with exercise is it makes you oxygen-efficient. You get better at taking in, distributing, and storing oxygen – the body’s most necessary survival nutrient. Oxygen sustains life and healthy cells love oxygen, and cancer cells hate it. That’s why we call Essential #4 Maximized Oxygen and Lean Muscle – both of these benefits of exercise are critical keys to longevity.

The good news, is that the right type of exercise takes less and not more time. This proper kind of training lowers bad hormone levels, increases good ones, boosts immune functions, helps manage weight, and lowers body fat, all of which will get you well on your way to making it to 100.

lthough an estimated half of all U.S. adults take a daily vitamin or mineral supplement, the role of dietary supplementation is vastly misunderstood. As a health conscious consumer, do you understand the

difference between supplements based on synthetic isolates versus those based on whole foods? Do you realize how widely supplements can vary when analyzed for nutritional potency? This two part series will help you understand the value of supplements and make sure you’re not wasting your money. According to a recent poll by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, nearly 70% of all adults surveyed said diet and nutrition are “very important”. Still, more people are suffering from chronic illnesses related to poor diet than ever before. Why is this? Three facts are clear.

FAST FOOD NATIONIn the first place, we simply don’t eat well. Programs like “Food Revolution” and “The Biggest Loser,” and the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign expose some of the nutritional voids in our modern culture and shine light on our nation’s diet-related health problems. Our fast paced lifestyle and our fast paced food manufacturing make it difficult to eat the way our great grandparents did.

NOT YOUR GRANDMA’S BROCCOLISecondly, even healthy foods are not as nutritionally rich as they once were. Because of unsustainable agricultural practices, many vital nutrients only exist in small quantities… or not at all.

Comparing nutrient levels recorded in 1975 and 2000 USDA food tables, the following vegetables reveal a disturbing trend that is getting worse.

• Broccoli contains half as much vitamin A and calcium as before.• Collard greens contain 84% less magnesium and 61% less

vitamin C than before.• Beets offer only half the vitamin C and have lost 10% of their

potassium.• Spinach has nearly half the vitamin C it once had.

By the way, these studies analyzed vegetables grown on large-scale commercial farms and make a strong case for organic farming.

THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR VITAMINFinally, while high quality nutritional supplementation could compensate for much of the above nutritional deficits; most of us either don’t do it, or we don’t do it wisely.

The science is impressive. In the latter part of the 19th century - around the same time Thomas Edison was inventing the light bulb - scientists were just beginning to see how food compounds (like calcium, magnesium and vitamin C) impacted human health. Unfortunately, the first vitamin supplement wouldn’t be available for purchase until the 1930s.

In the 20th century, rickets brought vitamin deficiency to the forefront of American medicine. For the first time, nutritional deficits were addressed on a national scale by fortifying milk with vitamin D. Later, folate was added to cereal to combat a growing number of neural tube defects. Today, it’s hard to find packaged foods not “fortified” with some vitamin or mineral. In recent years, the data related to nutritional supplementation has grown exponentially, confirming the preventive role of vitamin and mineral supplementation in areas such as:• Stopping or slowing rapid cell growth and tumor formation• Preventing brain defects and other pre-natal diseases in

infants• Protecting circulatory, respiratory, nervous systems• Building strong bones and teeth• Improving organ function• Boosting immunity

Fifty years ago it was common to think no one needed to take a vitamin or mineral supplement. Twenty-five years ago it was common to think only pregnant or elderly people needed a supplement. Today, we know that people of all ages, races and backgrounds would benefit from some level of nutritional supplementation.

Part II of this series will discuss what makes a nutritional supplement effective and what you should look for before you buy.

Max Fit works through its clinically studied botanical ingredients, including decaffeinated green coffee bean extract, ashwagandha, glutamine, carnitine and creatine. Each ingredient works with the others to offer specific bodily benefits, including boosted metabolism and reduced stress. Together, the ingredients of Max Fit support a strong body and mind for people of all ages.

DECAFFEINATED GREEN COFFEE EXTRACTThe decaffeinated green coffee extract in Max Fit helps minimize fat storage and increase lean body mass, which supports blood sugar health. Green coffee extract reduces the body’s absorption of sugar. Instead of storing sugar as fat, it is converted into energy that can be burned off more easily. A team of Japanese researchers has determined that green coffee bean extract’s naturally occurring chemical compounds promote weight loss by releasing fatty acids from stored body fat. In the liver, chlorogenic acid then helps process the fatty acids more efficiently, which results in weight loss.

A 2006 study published in Phytotherapie had similar findings. Green coffee extract supported weight management and increased participants’ lean-to-fat mass ratio in those who struggled with weight issues. Thirty people between the ages of 19 and 75 who had a body mass index (BMI) higher than 25 were given green coffee extract twice a day for 60 days. At the end of the 60 days, those who took the extract saw a 5.7 percent decrease in weight and a 4 percent increase in lean-to-fat ratio. Those in the placebo group, on the other hand, saw a 2.9 percent decrease in weight and a 1.5 percent increase in lean-to-fat ratio.

Furthermore, an extract of green coffee bean has been found to have a stronger antioxidant effects than established antioxidants like green tea and grape seed extract. In fact, there are approximately three times more antioxidants in green coffee extract than in green tea. This can prevent free radicals from damaging the skin, which can slow typical signs of aging.

ASHWAGANDHAAshwagandha is an Indian Ayurvedic herb similar to ginseng that is commonly used to help strengthen the body, prolong life, improve overall health, enhance mental function, prevent infections and increase physical energy.

Ashwagandha is ideal for its ability to improve human performance and reduce stress, as well as supporting healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. In India, itis also used to help older patients with cognitive ability and memory.. Studies have shown that it also works to increase the body’s stress response, which helps reduce cortisol—the stress hormone. In fact, it has been shown to be twice as productive as cortisone in combating stress. Ashwagandha helps inhibit stress responses like skipping meals, binge eating, carbohydrate cravings, and, stress-related fatigue, which in turn supports healthy weight management.

Studies have also shown that the herb may be useful in addressing osteoarthritis, anxiety, Type 2 Diabetes and even cancer. In 2008, scientists tested ashwagandha’s effects on human cartilage and found that the herb may help protect against inflammation and cartilage damage associated with osteoarthritis. A 2000 study found that ashwagandha had an anti-anxiety effect similar to that of Lorazepam (a medication used to treat anxiety disorders). The herb also appeared to ease depression. Again in 2008, Type 2 Diabetes reported to be positively affected by ashwagandha. The results showed that it might help normalize high blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity. Lastly, studies from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center revealed that ashwagandha might slow or destroy the growth of lung, breast, bone, colon and central nervous system cancer cells. Pregnant or nursing women, young children, or those with severe kidney or liver disease should not use ashwaganha. Nor should people with hyperthyroidism. Furthermore,

blood circulation in the leg muscles can cause leg pain and walking impairment. Carnitine improves circulation to help alleviate such pain. In cancer patients, carnitine supplements may ameliorate fatigue and poor sleep, commonly associated with chemotherapy.

CREATINEDiscovered in the 1800s, this amino acid plays a part in increasing muscle mass and strength. In terms of heart disease, a preliminary clinical study suggests that creatine supplements may help lower levels of triglycerides (fats in the blood) in both men and women. It has also been reported to help decrease levels of homocysteine, a substance whose presence is linked to heart disease and stroke.

Creatine supplements first became popular in the 1970s, when they were lauded as natural athletic enhancers. Now, they are most commonly used for improving exercise performance and increasing muscle mass in athletes and older adults.

Though, all natural, creatine can increase dehydration and other risk factors when used improperly. Ask your doctor about whether creatine is right for you.

Max Fit provides a comprehensive and holistic approach to help you reach your weight loss and total health goals. Regardless of your age, you can maintain your metabolism and energy with Max Fit.

if you are taking sedative drugs, you should not take ashwagandha at the same time except under your doctor’s supervision.

GLUTAMINEThis “chemical messenger” has been used to treat fatigue and depression. Glutamic acid is converted into glutamine or gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, which is essential for cerebral functions. This has been shown to help improve intelligence by enhancing mental clarity, alertness, and mood. Glutamine has been used to help treat such a wide range of disorders, including Parkinson’s disease.

Additionally, glutamic acid helps improve body composition by increasing carbohydrate metabolism, building lean muscle and helping the body naturally detoxify.

CARNITINE This compound is concentrated in the heart and skeletal muscles, where it aids in energy production and toxin removal. Carnitine also boosts metabolism, helps burn fat and improves exercise performance. Carnitine may also reduce the symptoms of angina or chest pain, poor blood circulation, fatigue, restlessness, and kidney disease. Poor

or 15 years I had an undiagnosed neurological disability. I had intense pain and inflammation in my neck, and frequent migraines. I struggled to understand what was going on around me, and to respond to it. Working

part time was challenging, as were daily tasks like cooking and cleaning, I couldn’t live on my own; it was a struggle just to survive. Doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I’d given up hope. I was introduced to Maximized Living. After the first adjustment, the pain in my neck was less and I could think a little more clearly. I decided to apply all 5 essentials. After 3 months I could work 5 days a week for the first time in a year and the migraines disappeared! In 7 months I was driving again! I am living the high-energy, people-filled life I’d only dreamed of before. I have my life back!

Over 900 genes and several areas of the body have vitamin D receptors, or proteins that bind to vitamin D.

According to University of California Riverside’s Biochemistry Presidential Chair, this means that “vitamin D supports immune system, pancreas, heart, blood, cellular,

muscle, bone and bone marrow, breast, colon, intestine, kidney, lung, prostate, retina, skin, stomach, uterine and

brain health—and can [positively] impact 36 bodily organs.” Even improved memory and concentration

have been linked to vitamin D intake!

cientists have found that Inuit Eskimos have the lowest mortality rate from heart disease than any other group of people. This is likely because their diet, which includes large amounts of wild salmon and other fatty fish, is rich in “good fat”.

“Good fat” provides the proper amount of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. You need omega-6 and omega-3 at a ratio of about 2:1. Unfortunately, in today’s world of fast food, frozen entrees and high calorie snacks, it is not uncommon for most people to be getting a ratio of about 15:1.

Why is the proper ratio so important? Omega 6 promotes inflammation while omega 3 reduces it. Consuming excessive amounts of omega 6 and only small amounts of omega 3 throws the system out of balance. A recent study of medical students at the University of Ohio showed that proper amounts of omega 3 are needed to manage inflammation properly. Higher amounts of omega 3 have also been shown to reduce heart disease, second heart attacks, stroke, heart arrhythmias and depression, as well as protect against Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and cancers of the breast, prostate and colon. To stay healthier and live longer, you need a 2:1 ratio of omega 6 to omega 3…not the typical 15:1 ratio.

The best way to achieve this is to avoid the “bad fat” that comes from corn, soy, canola, safflower and sunflower oil; while increasing your intake of omega 3. The best source of omega 3 is fish, particularly anchovies, bluefish, herring, mackerel, wild salmon, sardines, sturgeon, lake trout, and tuna. Walnuts, flax, flaxseed oil and unheated olive oil are also good sources. Free-range, grass-fed animals provide more omega 3 than most grain-fed animals.

Finally, a high quality nutritional supplement containing the appropriate 2:1 ratio of omega 6 and omega 3 is highly recommended.

Customers in general are a lot more savvy these days when it comes to shopping, especially since the internet makes it easy to find and buy what we want 24/7. Unfortunately, most of us can be misled by the “search results” and think that the first one we obtain is the better, cheaper or preferred. When it comes to your health you better make sure you’ve done some research and compare your options side-by-side. There’s always much more to any product than its price and what the name, tagline or label state. Price by itself is never the best parameter of comparison unless what you’re getting not only looks but IS EXACTLY the same.

struggling to lose the weight?

Toxicity is perhaps the greatest obstacle to successful weight loss. Most toxins are fat soluble, which means they can only be housed within your body’s fat cells. Once inside the body, toxins can attach themselves to cells’ outer membranes. This causes the cells to continually release leptin, the body’s natural fat-burning hormone. When leptin levels are elevated too often—similar to what happens to insulin in Type II Diabetes—the body starts to ignore leptin’s command to burn off unnecessary fat. The end result? An inability to lose weight due to leptin resistance.

Reduce your toxicity to prevent—or even overcome—weight loss resistance. Make ML’s Detox System your first shot in the battle to lose weight.

ow often does your doctor tell you to get a check-up for your health?Once a year. That’s it.

In order to maintain good physical health, physicians advise that we get a check-up once every 365 days. This is convenient, yet dangerously misleading. It is fairly obvious healthfully living to 100—or any age—requires us to focus on our health a little more than 0.2 percent of the time.

And on that single check-up day per year, what happens? Your physician runs through a series of basic tests that search for problems that have built up in your system over time. What goes unnoticed (far too often) is the basic logical fallacy inherent to this process.

Once per year, you drop in to see how your body is working. The other 364 days a year, the precursors to greater disease are allowed to accrue silently. At your check-up, you are being examined for sickness and disease that is already present, already developed.

This is not health care or preventative wellness. It’s shortsighted sick care.

Medical tests detect disease after billions of abnormal cells have already accumulated. If they miss it, the disease may still be developing. If a disease is discovered, then you are diagnosed.Again, this is not health care. It is myopic, reactionary scrambling to repair conditions that—in the case of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, high blood pressure and many other common health conditions—are largely avoidable.

A few quick, frightening statistics that have occurred as a result of waiting to take care of yourself until after your body is diseased:1. Only 1 person in 1,000 lives to 60 in good health.2. It’s estimated that 1.6 million Americans are diagnosed

with cancer each year. That’s one diagnosis every 19.2 seconds.

3. In the United States, one out of every two deaths is caused by cancer or heart disease.

Staying focused through the first months of the year to help achieve your New Year’s goals.

These conditions result from a lifestyle of prolonged neglect. As Americans, we pride ourselves of hard work and staying productive, but we often fail to apply our work ethic to that which is central to our very existence. To avoid life-threatening disease and to enjoy a healthy, fulfilled life beyond the relatively young age of 60, we must pay more attention to our health.

Your body consists of trillions of cells. And every second, millions of cells die and millions are replaced. In order for those cells to replicate normally they need oxygen, nutrients and proper, functional nerve supply. If the nerves controlling your spleen are cut, it stops functioning and dies. If the nerves to your right hand are severed, it becomes lifeless. For your heart to function at 100 percent, the brain must be able to communicate through the spinal cord to the nerves of your spleen, your right hand, your heart and every other organ in your body—or they will simply cease to function.

When the spine is healthy and in proper alignment, everything in the body—including the immune system—functions at a higher level. Every specific chiropractic adjustment takes pressure off the nerves, allowing the body to heal and continue replacing abnormal cells with normal cells.

That is health care. That is what will keep your body in prime physical condition. With this kind of comprehensive, proactive care—the very care you family receives in this Maximized Living clinic—your family can buck the troubling trends enjoy a truly healthy life.

The answer lies in your goals and objectives. There is a principle of training called the specificity principle that states that training for a sport should be specific to the skills and physical needs of that sport. In other words, don’t train for a marathon by bench pressing 300 lbs. This principle does not only apply to sports but can and should be carried over to a fitness program for anyone. Once again, it is important to know your goals and objectives. If you only care about a physique highlighted by enormous biceps and gigantic pecs then body building might be your thing. However, there are other ways to get a great physique. If you love doing 5Ks and your only goal is to have fun during the race or you just want to improve your time, then you might want to put some miles in. Again, be aware that there are other ways to improve your 5K time rather than just pounding the pavement.

Now if the goal of your fitness program is to get fit or to be healthy then it is easy to reverse engineer a program that will allow you to achieve your goal. A true and complete level of fitness includes all aspects of fitness, including strength, power endurance, speed, balance, co-ordination and most importantly, the ability to produce energy. By the way, when you exercise with the intention of achieving a high level of fitness and your program of choice is sufficiently designed to achieve this goal, then not only do you get fit, but as an added benefit you look good as well. You’ll probably even be able to improve on your 5K times just the same.

So, How should one exercise if fitness is your goal: anaerobic or aerobic exercise?

WHAT IS ANAEROBIC EXERCISE?Anaerobic means “without oxygen”. The anaerobic system relies on energy that is created and stored in the tissue cells of the body for immediate or near immediate use. When a physical activity is started, the energy to provide the work is supplied from this system. When the body exhausts its stored supply it then makes energy via the aerobic system through the consuption of oxygen. Examples of classic anaerobic exercise include weight lifting, plyometric jumping, short sprints and other exercises of that nature. Pure anaerobic exercise is most commonly associated with developing strength, power, and explosiveness.

What are the classic benefits of anaerobic exercise?

• Builds muscle• Improves metabolism• Increases bone strength

WHAT IS AEROBIC EXERCISE? “Aerobic” means “with oxygen”. Therefore, aerobic exercise is characterized by repetitive movements that require the body to consume oxygen to maintain a activity. Examples include long, slow to moderate, periods of a particular movement. i.e., running, biking, swimming. This type of exercise is also known as cardiovascular or “cardio” due to its recruitment of the heart to continuously beat to deliver the much needed inhaled oxygen to maintain movement. The term cardiovascular or “cardio” is somewhat of a poor use of words and often misleads people to believe that a long slow jog, or a 45 minute bout on an elliptical is the best way to enhance the cardiovascular system. When in fact, doing the “new cardio,” may have a much greater effect on this system.

Aerobic exercise gets the body moving, the blood pumping but it also has some down sides. If it is performed at a high intensity or for long periods, it often results in a lot of repetitive wear and tear on the joints. Another concern with classic cardio, is it’s less than desirable effect on the endocrine system. It causes the body to spike the stress hormone, cortisol. This hormone causes muscle wasting, hampers fat burning, and raises blood sugar levels. Since classic cardio results in muscle wasting this explains why distance athletes typically have far less muscle mass compared to athletes who don’t train with a heavy aerobic load. This decrease in muscle mass may also explain why many, who solely or heavily rely on classic cardio for weight loss, often experience a weight loss plateau and get stuck at that point. As muscle mass diminishes so does one’s metabolic rate and it becomes more and more difficult to lose weight.

WHAT ARE THE CLASSIC BENEFITS OF AEROBIC? • Conditions the cardiovascular system• Develops the respiratory system• Aids in fat loss to a point

VERDICTAny exercise is better than none. There are obvious benefits to both anerobic and aerobic exercise. Traditionally, if a person truly wanted to be fit then they would do both, This often meant 20 to 60 minutes of lifting weights then 20 to 60 minutes of cardio for a total of one to two hours in the gym. Cutting edge science and research in the fitness industry is now leading us to a new approach to comprehensive fitness: Short duration, high intensity exercise. This is the best of both worlds combined into one workout. It is characterized by short bursts or surges of very intense movements followed by periods of rest. Typically, the movements are anaerobic in nature but when combined in sets or with other exercises the net effect is usually aerobic.

This type of exercise has a tremendous impact on one’s cardiovascular system, as evidence of your heart feeling like it’s about to jump out of your chest and the breath that you just can’t seem to catch. It has an amazing impact on your hormones, which results in a huge spike of human growth hormone and testosterone, which elicits the body to build muscle and burn fat. Don’t worry women you won’t grow a mustache. Conversely, it doesn’t result in the same spike of Cortisol (the stress hormone), which causes the body to hold onto fat and waste muscle. Most importantly it is an incredibly effective means to develop the body’s ENERGY systems!!! Give it a shot.

Commonly, 100-year-old people do not smoke, they handle stress with relative ease, and they live in environments that a largely non-toxic. Your children will only benefit from learning these lessons from an early stage. Your family deserves a proven plan to help them grow healthy together and defy the common—but certainly not normal—path that most people follow.

THE BRUTAL REALITY: - According to the CIA World Fact Book, the 2012 World Infant Mortality rankings placed the U.S. at No. 50 and Canada at No. 42. The U.S. also ranks near the bottom for injuries, homicides, heart disease, chronic lung disease and other conditions diminishing quality of life.- In 2011, the International Association for the Study of Obesity found that the United States ranks second in clinically obese children between 5 and 17 years of age. Canada ranks eighth. Obesity increases risk of heart disease, metabolic syndrome and other serious health conditions.- Diseases once found primarily in people older than 40 are now affecting millions of young people. Just two decades ago, for instance, about 2 percent of all cases of type 2 (adult-onset) diabetes were found in people younger than 20. Today, that number has ballooned to more than 30 percent.

EXPERIENCE TRUE HEALTH.

From pregnancy to holding your newborn to high school graduation, we want health and happiness for our children. We need a simple and effective plan to pull off the goal of living to a happy, healthy 100 years of age. Below are three steps to help you and yours race across the 100-year finish line.

I. Start today. • Have a family meeting to discuss the components of living to 100. • Share why you want this with your family, and why you believe you can do it. (This is what motivates you every day!) II. Know your plan. • Manage your children’s TV and video game time. Over-consumption of technology can inhibit brain development. Developing healthy self-esteem and emotional intelligence are essential to healthy stress management. • Get them adjusted regularly. Nerve system function is integral to optimizing learning ability and physical health. • Teach them to eat for proper nutrition—not to satisfy cravings—and you will improve their fitness, learning ability and level of toxicity. • Stay active! There is a direct connection between movement and learning, so try biking, taking walks, or doing Max T3 workouts as a family. • Reduce your children’s exposure to common toxins by cleaning up their lunch boxes and personal care products. (Ask your doctor for more details on this.) III. Execute your plan. • Get a family calendar and set goals for each of the 5 Essentials. • Plan your month. Plan your week. Plan your day as it relates to the 5 Essentials in your child’s life. • Follow your plan and seek support when necessary.

Your doctor can help you transition each step of the way. Stay plugged into workshops, shopping nights and other events geared to ensure your success. Proactively planning a healthy, living-to-100 lifestyle clearly outweighs the risks of not doing it. Encourage your children to learn and adhere to the aspects of a healthy lifestyle to help reduce the likelihood of obesity, type 2 diabetes, autism and even certain types of cancer in your family. Become your family’s solution to the epidemics of this generation. Act today to ensure long, healthy lives for you, your children and your grandchildren.
