Submit your tearsheets electronically. It’s easy, quickier and fairer. It shows off your artistic work as it was created, not as printed. So review the rules and submit your best work!

Category 1:Best Black & White, Single Ad, Quarter Page and Under: Black & White only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.

Best Color Single Ad, Quarter Page and Under:Color only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.

Category 2:

Best Black & White, Single Ad, Over a Quarter Page:Black & White only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.

Category 3:

Best Color Single Ad, Over a Quarter Page:Color only. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full-page tearsheet. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.

Category 4:

Special Event/Vendor Support Idea:For each entry, submit entire section or page. Qualifying entries are separate, stand alone, pull-out sections or pages. Judges will consider basic idea, originality, organization, development of theme in ads and creativity in section or pages.

Category 5:

Special Section/Niche Publication:For each entry, submit entire section or niche publication. Qualifying entries are separate, stand alone, pull-out sections or pages. Judges will consider basic idea, adaptability to other markets, organization, development of theme in the section and on the publication cover.

Category 6:

Self-Promotion, Advertising, including Media and Marketing Material:For each entry, submit a PDF version of a full-page tearsheet and/or entire media or marketing materials. Use this category to demonstrate the way you promote your newspaper to generate new advertisers and revenue. Use of “ready-made” ads or materials is unacceptable. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space and originality.

Category 8:ROP Ad Series: Black & White or color. For each entry, submit PDF versions of full page tearsheets of three or more individual ads for a single advertiser in ROP that have a continuous theme. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space and originality. Ad must be for a single advertiser.

Ad Campaign Using Multiple Newspaper Products:Single advertiser using two or more newspaper products (ie. audio text, on-line, other tie-in media) for ad campaign. ROP and niche publications can be included.

Category 9:

Most Innovative Idea:Use this category to submit an unique concept and/or design of an ad or section that you have sold with successful results. For each entry, submit a PDF version of full page tearsheet and/or entire section. Judges will consider basic idea, layout, copy, typography, headline, use of white space, color placement and originality.

Category 10:

Newspapers Fighting Cancer:Sponsored by the Andrew E. Shapiro Cancer Foundation, this category includes any cancer-related features, sections, specialty pages or web efforts. Send in PDF versions of tearsheets for this special category to show how your newspaper is helping raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer. Best entries will be showcased on the foundation Web site as a way to share ideas of how newspapers can make a difference in their communities. There is no entry fee or circulation division for this category.

Special Category:

COMPETITION RULESEntries must have been published between April2012 and March 2013.

Basic Entry fee is $30.00 for 15 entries.

CATEGORY 6 ENTRY: You will note when entering Category 6 that you will not be able to upload a section or niche publication electronically. Space and bandwidth prevent this. However, you are still required to provide the name of your publication and provide a description via the electronic submission process. Please print the page before submission and paperclip or attach it to the edition that will be mailed. Then mail the entry along with any other publications, products or marketing materials that are not able to be uploaded according to contest rules to: Michelle Faggiano at the address on the right.

CATEGORY 7 ENTRY: This category is similar to Category 5. You may submit a multi-page entry in this category as long as it is no more than 4 pages. However, the PDF must contain all pages within one PDF file. This category also allows you to submit other types of files such as web based graphic files or any other types of files as necessary. Should you need more than the three entry upload spaces please contact the contest administrator, John Leeser at [email protected].

CATEGORY 8 ENTRY: Here you may submit up to five individual PDF files for consideration in this category.

CATEGORY 9 AND 10 AND THE NEWSPAPERS FIGHTING CANCER ENTRY: These categories are similar to Categories 5 and 7. You may submit a multi-page entry in this category as long as it is no more than 4 pages. However, the PDF must contain all pages within one PDF file. This category also allows you to submit other types of files such as web based graphic files or any other types of files as necessary Should you need more than the three entry upload spaces for your submission in Category 9 or 10 or the one allowed in the special category, please contact the contest administrator, John Leeser at [email protected].

Any entry that does no comply with the rules as outlined by this committee will not be eligible for the competition and will be disqualified.

Tearsheet Contest Fees: $30 entry fee plus $2.00 per each entry submitted.

Entries are limited to a maximum of 30.
