PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the brand new HBAM Directory and Membership Blueprint. For 2013, we have totally overhauled the publication from top to bottom. We have turned this directory into the num-ber one, go-to resource for the home building industry in the mid-Atlantic. We are the link connecting you to other members and to your target audience. We understand that your com-pany’s success depends on reaching members through business to business contacts and we have the expertise and opportunities to help you grow your bottom line.

This publication will serve as your road map on how to add value to your HBAM member-ship, build relationships and generate recogni-tion for your company in front of your industry peers. HBAM provides members with an abundance of opportunities to achieve profes-sional development and recognition. We offer so many opportunities for participation and we know it can be overwhelming so we produced this guide to help you navigate your involve-ment in 2013.

The Membership Blueprint in the center of the directory highlights all of the HBAM events throughout the year with descriptions, dates, average attendance, cost and sponsorship op-portunities. All the information you need, all in one place. The Home Builders Association of Maryland is your link to high profile events and publications that reach a core group of industry professionals.

This membership blueprint will help you decide which events you would like to attend, find out who is serving on committees and councils, learn more about our foundation and discover the value of our government affairs representation. Involvement is an essential tool in getting the most out of your membership. By becoming active, you meet new members, share ideas, network with your peers and contribute your expertise to your Association and to your industry. HBAM has something for everyone!

Aside from the awesome new Membership Blueprint this is still the directory which fea-tures our membership list, one of HBAM’s most valuable resources. When you need to find a company, a product, a service or a contact, The HBAM Directory is the easiest way to do it. This year, there are new enhanced listings. What a great way to gain exposure. We also have an on-line element to this directory. At www.homebuilders.org, you can search for members by category, company name or even by contact person. It is also a great place for consumers and other members to find YOU.

If you are a builder or remodeler, take a moment to see if your subs and suppliers are listed in this Buyers’ Guide. If not, that means they’re not members. You work hard in your business to provide the best possible product and service and you support this industry through your membership in HBAM. Please help us make the association and the industry stronger by referring those companies you use who aren’t members so we can contact them about their participation. In addition, some of you receiving this guide may be non-members. How regrettable for you that you aren’t listed in this valuable resource. Give our membership department at call at 410-265-7400 so we can get you listed on-line and include you in next year’s guide.

We’d love to hear what you think about this new format. Please contact Kristin Hogle, HBAM Communications Director at 410-265-7400, ext. 111 or [email protected] to voice your comments.

This publication will serve as your road map on how to add value to your HBAM membership, build relationships and generate recognition for your company in front of your industry peers.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

HBAM offers effective legislative lobbying at the local, state and national level, representing housing

interests and advocating strong positions on issues that impact you. On your behalf, HBAM ghts restric-

tive legislation and regulations that are detrimental to the housing industry. HBAM staff is only a phone

call away with information about new regulations, laws or industry concerns.

At the state level, HBAM reviews thousands of bills during the Maryland General Assembly session,

monitoring those issues which most dramatically affect the home building industry. The

Association’s legislative arm in Annapolis, the Maryland State Builders Association, employs full-time

staff to monitor the activities of various state legislative committees and to meet

with members of the Maryland General Assembly. On the local level, HBAM operates a nationally rec-

ognized, award winning governmental affairs program. Chapter leadership meets regularly with local

elected ofcials as well as advocates for the housing industry.

HBAM has one of the most unique and successful political action programs in the nation,

realizing that the election of a candidate is truly the beginning of effective legislative involvement. As

a member, you can participate in state and local PAC’s designed to promote the candidacy of elected

ofcials who support a viable housing industry.

CHAPTERS

HBAM’s political strength depends on strong and active County Chapters to drive the Association’s grassroots efforts on

the state and local levels. Chapter membership and involvement is free to HBAM members and is your best opportunity

to stay abreast of the latest legislation impacting the industry.

Each Chapter is comprised of a voluntary Board that meets monthly to discuss the latest regulations and proposed

new laws, to formulate a response and provide direction to the Association’s lobbyists, and to hear directly from state

and county elected ofcials and staff. Serving on a Chapter Board is your best opportunity to impact legislation and

voice your opinion on issues important to you. Chapters also hold a variety of other meetings and networking events

throughout the year.

A year’s worth of appointments, all in one day! Tell your boss you have a half-day of face-to-face

ever we are encouraging builders, developers and remodelers to do business only with members –

this is your chance to get on their vendor list.
