accomplish the feat at least four times in a single season was Jeremiah Marks with five in 2007 … Matt Hunt’s 277.02 passing efficiency rating against Oberlin is the sixth highest in Division III this year and the best by a DePauw quarterback since Spud Dick posted a 338.5 rating at Austin College in 2007 … DePauw kicker Eric Malm, a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete nominee, ranks ninth in school history with 157 career points which also is second among kickers at DePauw … Malm’s three field goals and 11 points against both Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan were the most by a DePauw kicker since Jordan Havercamp booted three and totaled 11 against Millsaps in 2009 … Malm’s 22 career field goals are second in school history behind Tom Downham’s 28 from 1984-87 … Barry Flynn’s 156 receiving yards against Oberlin were the most by a DePauw player since Alex Koors finished with 175 against Trine in the 2010 NCAA Division III postseason … Flynn’s 10 catches against Oberlin were the most since Koors

had 10 against Trine in 2010 … Flynn’s 62 receptions already rank in a tie for 11th in a DePauw season. John Stephens holds the school record with 88 in 2001 … Sansone’s 273 all-purpose yards at Ohio Wesleyan were the most by a DePauw player since Jeremiah Marks totaled 278 against Wabash in 2007 … Sansone’s 61-yard run against Ohio Wesleyan was the longest by a DePauw player since Curtis Moore broke off a 75 yarder in 2007 at Birmingham-Southern … DePauw’s defensive effort against Allegheny of allowing just 202 yards was the best performance by the Tigers since they allowed 173 to the Gators in 2012 and the eight first downs allowed were the fewest permitted by DePauw’s defense since it limited Sewanee to three in 2009 … DePauw totaled 88 plays against Ohio Wesleyan and 81 versus Allegheny marking the first time since 2009 that the Tigers have had at least 80 in two consecutive games.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK DePauw jumped out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead, but visiting Wooster scored on three of its first four second half possessions and held on for a 27-24 North Coast Athletic Confer-ence win over the Tigers on Nick Mourouzis Field at Blackstock Stadium. DePauw’s three-game win streak came to an end as the Tigers slipped to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC, while Wooster improved to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove 41 yards in 12 plays with Eric Malm booting a 40-yard field goal for a 3-0 DePauw lead. Before the Tigers’ offense even had a chance to rest, Wooster quarterback Richard Barnes fumbled on the Fighting Scots’ first offensive play and DePauw’s Dennis Callicutt recovered at midfield. Nine plays later Matt Hunt tossed a 12-yard scoring pass to Barry Flynn to make it 10-0 with 6:58 left in the first. Early in the second, Wooster’s Tyler Ger-wig missed a 31-yard field goal attempt as his kick sailed left of the uprights. Later in the half, DePauw was backed up to its own 13 after back-to-back penalties totaling 25 yards and a short punt gave the Scots the ball on the DePauw 41. Sean Hackel carried a couple of times for

eight yards before Barnes rattled off a 31-yard run to the DePauw 2. Hackel reached paydirt on a 2-yard run, but Gerwig’s point-after was off the mark and DePauw still led, 10-6, with 2:05 left. Connor Jeffers returned the ensuing kick-off 38 yards and the Tigers quickly advanced into Wooster territory on Hunt’s 15-yard pass to Nikko Sansone. A Wooster personal foul penalty gave DePauw the ball at the Wooster 33. DePauw picked up a first down on runs by Hunt and Sansone, but Hunt was sacked for a 13-yard loss by Matt Osolinski. Hunt gained back that yardage on the next play with a 22-yard scamper, but then fumbled on third-and-one at the Wooster 13 with Matt Osolinski recovering for the Scots with 21 seconds left in the half. Wooster quickly marched down the field to start the second half, but DePauw’s defense stopped them on fourth-and-1 from the Ti-gers’ 6. DePauw was unable to pick up a first down and was forced to punt. Brandon James’ 11-yard return gave Wooster the ball at its own 49. Barnes was sacked for a 7-yard loss by Michael Mitsch on first down, but then completed five straight passes to drive the Fighting Scots to the DePauw 8. Barnes called his own number for an 8-yard touchdown run that gave Wooster its first lead at 13-10. DePauw wasted little time in answering as Hunt completed three straight passes including a 9-yard scoring strike to Flynn that capped a four-play drive and made it 17-13 Tigers with 6:33 remaining in the third. Wooster converted a fourth down on its next series, but Peter Nelson’s 10-yard sack on third-and-5 forced the guests into a punt-ing situation. A short punt on the Tigers’ next series gave the Scots the ball at the DePauw 46. On the first play, Wooster’s Keir Pace took a lateral pass from Barnes and tossed it into the arms of Darrian Owens for a touchdown to give Wooster a 20-17 advantage with 1:29 left in the third. DePauw started its next series on its own 30 and Hunt began with a 5-yard pass to Kevin Ude before Amen Galley broke off a 29-yard run. Hunt then connected with Flynn for a 36-yard score that gave DePauw a 24-20 advantage with just nine seconds left in the third. The score was Flynn’s third TD recep-tion of the game, tying a DePauw single-game record.

The Fighting Scots’ eventual game-win-ning drive started on their own 32. Wooster advanced into DePauw territory, but a holding penalty and fumbled snap put them into a third-and-21 situation. Barnes teamed with Pace for an 18-yard gain on third down and then Barnes connected with Jake Vellucci for eight yards and a first down on the fourth-down play. Barnes went right back to Vellucci for a 19-yard strike on the next play to make it 27-24 with 11:27 left. DePauw had two more chances as it drove to the Wooster 32, but Hunt was sacked by Ian Crawford for a 22-yard loss on fourth down and then intercepted by Vinnie Con-gedo on the next drive. On the play prior to interception, Hunt appeared to have found Flynn for a long game near the Wooster 30, but Flynn was ruled to have stepped out of bounds and then back in before making the catch. Wooster outgained the Tigers 440-402 as the Fighting Scots rushed for 208 and threw for 232. Hackel and Barnes each totaled 105 rushing yards, while Barnes threw for 186 more. Hackel also caught five passes for 40 yards. Sansone rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries, but saw limited action in the second half. The Tigers totaled 101 rushing yards for the game. Hunt completed 20 of 35 for 301 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Flynn was the top receiver with eight catches for 130 yards. Mitch Dwenger paced DePauw with 11 total tackles followed by Callicutt and Nick Freund with nine each. Nelson and Mitsch each had a sack as the Tigers totaled 6.0 tackles for losses of 24 yards. John Battaglia recorded 13 stops for Wooster with James finishing with nine. Wooster sacked Hunt five times for 54 yards.

Bill Lynch, a head football coach at three different NCAA levels and a collegiate coach for 32 years, returns to DePauw to lead the Tigers’ program. A 1977 Butler graduate, Lynch has most recently served as the as-sociate athletic director for develop-ment at his alma mater since March 2011. In that role he was responsible for athletics annual giving through the Bulldog Club and served as a major gift officer for athletics. He also was the sport administrator for the football program. Lynch, who led DePauw to an 8-2 mark in 2004 including a 14-7 win over Wabash in the annual Monon Bell clash, was the South-ern Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in his lone season in Greencastle and was the first

football coach in SCAC history to earn the distinction in his initial season. He succeeded Nick Mourouzis who served as head coach the previous 23 seasons. The 2004 Tigers ranked 16th in NCAA Division III rushing offense after averaging 254.6 rushing yards per game. DePauw’s 2,546 rush-ing yards was just two yards shy of the school record and the Tigers’ averages of 5.0 yards per rushing play and 5.8 yards per offensive play still rank second in program history. Additionally, under Lynch’s tutelage, seven DePauw players earned all-SCAC first team honors and wide receiver JaMarcus Shephard was one of only two Division III players invited to the 2005 Hula Bowl Maui All-Star Classic In January 2005, Lynch was named the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Indiana University where he joined longtime friend and head coach Terry Hoeppner. Under Lynch’s leadership, Indiana quarterback Kellen Lewis posted one of the best freshman campaigns in program history, ranking 21st in the nation in total offense and third among freshmen with 242.0 yards per game. As a team, the Hoosiers scored their most points (277) since 2001, aver-aging 335.9 yards and 222.1 passing yards per game. The interim head coach for two games during the 2006 season, Lynch was named the head coach in June 2007 just days before coach Hoeppner passed away after battling cancer. Lynch directed Indiana to a 7-6 record in 2007 and a berth to the Insight Bowl. The only head coach in Indiana history to guide his team to a bowl game in his first season, Lynch was just the fourth coach in the program’s history to lead a team to a postseason game. Furthermore, the seven victories in his debut season were the second most for a first-year Hoosiers head coach. In his four seasons in Bloomington, Lynch added a pair of “I’s” to the Old Oaken Bucket chain, defeating Purdue in 2007 and 2010. Lynch mentored three all-Americans, one Academic All-America® selection, seven first team all-Big Ten selections, 74 academic all-Big Ten honorees and a Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient. Additionally, the Hoosiers produced two Ted Hendricks Award finalists as well as finalists for the Lou Groza Award, the Biletnikoff Award and the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. A four-year letter winner in both football and basketball and captain of each at Butler, Lynch earned Associated Press Little All-America honors at quarterback in 1974, 1975 and 1976 and was the first Butler student-athlete to twice earn the Indiana Collegiate Conference’s prestigious Tony Hinkle Award presented for both outstanding scholastic and athletic achievement. Lynch earned and was the Indiana Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and ICC Back of the Year all three seasons. A captain as a senior, he still holds the school record with 60 career touchdown passes and ranks third with 5,909 career passing yards. He also led the basketball team in assists in 1975-76. After graduation, Lynch spent seven seasons as a Bulldogs assis-tant coach, including stints as the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator. He moved on to Northern Illinois University as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in 1984, and was the quarterbacks coach of the United States Football League’s Orlando Renegades in 1984. Lynch then returned to Butler in 1985 when he was named the

DePauw Head Coach Bill LynchBulldogs’ head coach. While at the then NCAA Division II program, his teams compiled a 36-12-3 record including Heartland Collegiate Conference championships in 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1989. He was named the conference’s coach of the year in 1985, 1987 and 1988 and the American Football Coaches Association Region 3 Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1988. Lynch directed the Bulldogs to the Division II postseason in 1988 and into the top 20 rankings four times. Lynch then moved on to Ball State University where he served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Cardinals from 1990 through 1992. He served as quarterback coach for Indiana University in 1993 and 1994 and the Hoosiers played in the 1993 Independence Bowl while compiling a 15-8 record in those two seasons. In 1995, Lynch returned to Ball State as head coach and began an eight-year stint that included a Mid-American Conference cham-pionship in 1996 and an appearance in the Las Vegas Bowl. He also directed the Cardinals to the MAC West Division co-championship in 2001. His teams were recognized by the AFCA for outstanding graduation rates in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In September of 2003 he was named the associate athletic direc-tor for community relations at Ball State and served as a liaison with University Development and the Cardinal Varsity Club among several duties. Lynch was inducted into the Butler Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000 and joined Mourouzis in the class of 2004 for induction into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Lynch and his wife, Linda, are the parents of daughter Kelly and sons Billy, Joey and Kevin.
