Greetings from Carol Joy Holling Camp!

I hope you are ready for a summer full of growth, love, friendship and FUN! Whether you have been coming to camp for years, or if this will be your first summer, you are in for a memorable and exciting experience!

Carol Joy Holling Camp is a place set apart in God’s beautiful creation where youth and adults can come to grow spiritually and emotionally. Through trying new things, exploring creation, forming new friendships, and having one on one time with God, you will gain confidence and independence and learn what your God-given gifts are. We offer summer programs for all ages – find the right one(s) for your family and give us the honor of being a part of your journey of faith.

The 2013 summer theme is “Faith Alive!,” focusing on 1 Cor. 16:14, “Let all that you do be done in love.” We will spend our time together focusing on how we can make our faith dance in ways it never has before! Martin Luther says, “Faith is a living, busy, active, mighty thing.” This summer, we will learn ways to make our faith come ALIVE, so we can go out into our world and be active disciples, sharing God’s love wherever we go!

No matter how many times you’ve been to camp, new and amazing things are waiting for you. New friends, new activities, new ideas and a new, living, dancing faith in our God!

The Summer Ministry Team then spends their summer caring for campers, sharing their faith and gaining valuable life skills.

AMERICAN CAMP ASSOCIATION

The American Camp Association (ACA) is the camping industry’s voice on standards of excellence and safety. These standards provide camps with best practices to follow in order to achieve the highest quality of operations.

Carol Joy Holling Camp is an ACA-accredited camp. This means we are visited on a regular basis by a team of specially-trained professionals from the camping industry to ensure we are meeting the ACA standards. The ACA sets guidelines in the areas of Program Design & Activity, Aquatics, Health & Wellness, Trip & Travel, Site & Food Service, Transportation, Operational Management, and Human Resources. Carol Joy Holling has been an accredited camp for many years and is committed to making sure each one of our program participants has the safest, most rewarding, growth-filled experience possible while at camp.

WEATHER DEFENDER

Eastern Nebraska is known for its extreme weather changes. During our summer program at CJH, we have a lot of sunshine and blue sky but we aren’t immune to less friendly conditions. That’s why we use Weather Defender, a state-of-the-art weather tracking program. This program enables us to monitor conditions every hour of the summer. Every age group’s site has below-ground shelter facilities and, should severe weather systems reach camp, we are prepared in advance to alter schedules as needed. Using Weather Defender has helped us be well prepared for any “sunshine hiccups” that may happen.

PARENT COMMUNICATORS

Coming to camp is an amazing experience; not only for campers gaining all the benefits of a camp program, but also for parents seeing their children grow in faith and independence from the experience of camp. We want camper parents to be concern-free during their child’s program week. Our Parent Communicator program helps us achieve this during the summer.

For the fourth summer in a row, we will be hiring two Summer Ministry Team members as Communications Interns. These talented college-age students’ main priorities will be visiting each site and taking pictures and/or video to email daily to parents. The days are full of wonderful growth for our campers and we are eager to share these times with their families.

DEPOSITS AND REFUNDS

A $100 deposit is required for full-week sessions, $50 for all mini-sessions and Sjogren Retreat Center program sessions. Deposits are applied to the total camp fee. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by the deposit and signed registration form. The deposit is not refundable or transferable after April 15, 2013. If cancellation occurs before April 15, 2013 a $25 cancellation fee will be retained. Requests for refunds or transfers must be submitted in writing to the registrar before April 15, 2013. Total balance is due two weeks before arrival at camp, including any portion paid by the church. Pay online, make checks payable to NLOM or use your Visa or MasterCard.

FAMILY DISCOUNTS

Receive a $25 discount for each child of the same immediate family attending a full-week or mini-session. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form to qualify. Discounts are applied to the final balance. Sorry, no discounts for Taste of Camp.

HOUSING POLICY

Campers may request to be housed with a friend during their stay. We discourage housing larger groups of friends because it limits their ability to meet new people. Use the space on the registration to request one housing mate. Assignments are made prior to the camping session. Requests cannot be guaranteed.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY POLICY

Rules for acceptance and participation in the program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, age or sex. Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in this program should write to: Administrator, Food and Consumer Service, 3101 Park Center Drive, Alexandria, VA 22302.

NO CHILD TURNED AWAY POLICY

Carol Joy Holling Camp’s policy is that no child will be turned away because of the inability to pay their camp fee. If your child(ren) needs a partial or full camp scholarship, please call Mary Bower tollfree, 1-888-656-6254.

CAMPERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Contact us if the camper has specific needs such as hearing or visual impairments, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, physical/behavioral challenges, emotional concerns or special medical considerations. There may be individuals we cannot accommodate because of site or facility limitations or individual needs that are beyond our scope of care. An honest profile of your camper is necessary so we can provide the best possible experience. NLOM encourages integration of campers with disabilities as appropriate.
