What a great day to be a Chamber member. Summer is over and school is starting. One thing we all learned about and were forced to utilize was the library. The library is probably one of the biggest assets to our community that is sometimes forgotten about. At our past membership luncheon, the program featured resources and databases available through the St. Louis County Library has to offer. Some businesses pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for data that is available to the public for free by the St. Louis County Library. I would encourage all of our members to challenge yourselves and your companies to make use of what we have right at our finger tips in the library. As successful business people, we all understand that to stay at the top of your industry, you are never finished with ―school‖ even though you have graduated. Some of us have continuing education that is required by your industry and others are striving to continue learning on our own. The Fenton Chamber offers continuing education as a benefit to your membership in several ways. Most recently, we are now offering a selection of online training courses for purchase directly from the Chamber website. We have hand-picked courses that we feel are relevant to our membership and their employees, covering topics in Human Resources, Compliance, Business Management Software courses and much more. All courses will be available on-demand, 24/7 and administered through an employee‘s workstation. As a special promotion to kickoff our new online training member service, we are giving away a free online training course to every Chamber Member (one per company). Look for more information in the newsletter and through email updates. Another continuing education opportunity the Chamber is offering is ―Back to School with Social Medial‖. The leader of the course is our very own Karen The Connector. The first session is on Thursday, August 29th and the topics are Twitter and LinkedIn. Keeping with the ―school‖ theme, I am pleased to announce the Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a STEM grant in the amount of $5000. This funding will be used by the Chamber to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in the Fenton Community and our school system. Watch for more information and ways you can be involved. In closing, I would like to thank everyone that has been involved and contributed in one of our largest (and most fun) fundraisers and events, the 24th Annual FACC Golf Tournament. Many people have stepped up with support such as sponsorship, volunteering and participation. As you can see, the Chamber always has your back … so SHOP CHAMBER FIRST!! Sincerely, Greg Bresler GM – Andre‘s Banquet Facilities and Catering President – Fenton Area Chamber of Commerce

Maritz Supports Children with Special Needs through TASK

Members Working with Members...

Maritz, a Fenton-based company and long-time Chamber member, recently supported St. Louis-based Team Activities for Special Kids (TASK) as part of the Maritz corporate commitment to education. The support came in the form of a $10,000 grant in order to help TASK, a non-profit organization, fund a TASK Life Skills Independent Living Lab. This lab will help TASK continue its mission of providing St. Louis special needs children and young adults with an accepting and supportive place to learn and play. The T.A.S.K. Life Skills Independent Living Lab will help open many doors for this organization, while impacting approximately 1,200 participants in Greater St. Louis and regional areas in 2013. The lab is the former UAW Hall on Horan Drive, a 19,000 square-foot building that sits on more than 11 acres. The addition of this building will enable TASK to expand its mission of increasing those participants‘ self-esteem, confidence and competence. They accomplish these through growth in their ability to manage daily routines, concentrating in three basic areas: daily life skills, nutrition and educational reinforcement. ―At Maritz we are dedicated to empowering people to reach their full potential,‖ said Debbie Schirmer, Community Affairs Director, Maritz. ―We are proud to partner with TASK, which has a similar mission of enriching and nurturing the lives of children with special needs through programs such as the Life Skills Independent Lab and the many opportunities it will provide.‖

On July 23rd, over 25 of Maritz non-profit partners assembled at the Fenton campus for the Employee Community Engagement Fair. The day was full of opportunities for employees to learn about local and national non-profits, and how they too could get involved and strengthen the impact of Maritz corpo-rate giving program with their community partners. As one of Maritz‘s eligible non-profit partners, the Fenton Chamber participated in this event, meeting with Maritz employees, and informing them of volunteer opportunities available both at the Chamber Office and at annual fundraising events.
