Back-t o-School 2013-2014 Age of Students Children between the ages of 5 and 17 are to be enrolled in school. Kindergarten Kindergarten is required for all students who will be age five on or before sept. 1, 2013. To enroll, parents must present their child’s birth certificate, a s.C. Certificate of Immunization, and proof of residence. New Students students new to the district, regardless of grade, should register at the school in their attendance zone as soon as possible before school begins on August 21. Length of School Day The day for 5K-grade 5 begins at 7:45 and ends at 2:25. The day for grades 6-8 begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:45, and the day for grades 9-12 begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:40. (Parents should note that times may vary slightly in the middle and high schools.) Immunizations In addition to shots students must have before they begin school, all seventh-graders are required to have the Tdap vaccine before school begins. Parents should contact their healthcare provider or DHeC to determine if other immunizations or boosters are needed. School Bus Transportation To meet the morning bus, elementary students should be ready at 6:40 and secondary students, at 7:30. Adjustments in time will be made shortly after school begins. Meals Breakfast will cost $1.00 daily. Lunch will cost $2.00 for elementary students and $2.25 for middle and high school students. Fees students in grades 6-12 must pay a one-time $60 athletic fee to be listed on a team roster. The fee must be paid before the student can receive a team uniform. students who are eligible to drive to school must complete the safe-driving course, Alive at 25. students should contact their schools about this course and the parking fee as soon as possi- ble this summer. Attendance Parents and students should note attendance regulations in school handbooks. students do not want to jeopardize promotion to the next grade or date of graduation by not attending school. students should present a written excuse for any absence to their teacher or attendance office on the day following the absence. School Closings or Delays Parents of students and district employees will be notified of any decisions about opening, delaying, or closing school early through the district’s telecommunication system. This information will also be put on the district’s website (www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us), on Facebook and relayed to area radio and TV stations. Parents are advised to work with their chil- dren on a plan to follow when school has to dis- miss early. Children who are car-riders should know who will pick them up, and children who ride school buses should know what to do when they arrive home if parents are not there.
