Of course, they’ll need your help. You’re probably a lot like us: a problem solver—pragmatic and practical.

Like us, you believe that middle school is a critical time when students’ love for math must be nurtured, or their fear of math must be overcome.

More than likely, you ask yourself the same questions every day: “How can I challenge my students who are capable of more?” or “How do I get some of my students to understand the heights they are capable of reaching?” or “What can I provide for a student with an affinity for math?”

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is the answer, and this book will ensure your students’ experiences with the Competition Series are enriching ones.

Thought-provoking, non-routine and fun, the problems in the MATHCOUNTS School Handbook will engage and challenge your students and make each one of them a better problem solver.

You—the Team Coach—are the backbone of the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series. You are the feet on the ground, the encourager, the facilitator, the challenger. You’re the one putting in the extra hours after school, helping students over roadblocks, helping them bust through barriers. You’re the one saying: “Let’s approach this a different way” and “I knew you had it in you” and “Yes, you can.”

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series provides the environment for students to reach their true potential, to take pride in their abilities and to work with peers who share and value their curiosity and determination.

THIS BOOK COULD MAKE YOUR STUDENTS FALL IN LOVE WITH MATH.

So let’s get started.

MATHCOUNTS is excited to introduce an easy, fun andeffective way to raise money to support your math team!

Could your school use some additional money for any of the following?

THEN YOU NEED SOLVE-A-THON!

Based on the same concept as other “athon” fundraisers, the MATHCOUNTS Solve-A-Thon makes it easy for students to raise fi nancial support for their math club by securing pledges and then doing math problems! And the best part is...

100% of the money a student raises goes toward improving matheducation opportunities in the student’s school and local community!

For complete details, including the incredible prizes students can earn for their fundraising efforts, visit solveathon.mathcounts.org.
