Course Catalog! We are excited to be bringing you another year of training at 32BJ!
We continue to offer vital, engaging, and accessible Courses that are designed to
help you excel at your job and advance in your career and within the industry.
Whether you are a returning student or you are planning on taking your first class,
the Training Fund has plenty to offer. With almost 150 Course titles at 40 locations
and over a dozen online options, it’s easier than ever to take advantage of your
32BJ Training Fund benefit.
If you think you don’t have time for a full Course, be sure to check out our Quick Courses.
Quick Courses are indicated with an orange title. We offer Quick Courses throughout
the year on more than 100 diverse topics including Electricity Troubleshooting,
Green Roofs, Citizenship, Floor Care: Wood, Floor Care: Carpet, Time Management and
Customer Service. It may be one 3 hour session for Chemical Safety in the Workplace or
six 3 hour sessions for an ESL Pronunciation Intensive, but chances are we have a Quick
Course that meets your needs and schedule.
With all of these options, you may want some guidance to help you choose the right Courses
to achieve your goals. For this reason we created Career Tracks—lists of Courses grouped by
job title. We offer Career Tracks for Cleaner, Handyperson, Green Building, Air Condition
ing and Refrigeration License Certification, Security, Superintendant, Resident Manager
and others. Career Tracks were put together with employer input and ensure that you have
the proper skills and necessary certifications to achieve the next level in your career.

32BJ Training Fund The 32BJ Training Fund is a joint labor-management partnership that offers training to eligible participants at no cost. The fund is supported by contributions negotiated between 32BJ SEIU and participating employers.
Our mission is to train every participant to grow to the next level. We want to continually raise the standards of our industry by providing 32BJ members with the tools they need to meet the challenges of a changing industry.
Advisory Committee The Advisory Committee informs the Board of Trustees about industry practices and suggests courses based on the needs of the building maintenance and real estate industry. The Advisory Committee is composed of both labor and management representatives. The committee is co-chaired by:

EligibilityEligibility for the 32BJ Training Fundis fully detailed in the Summary PlanDescription (SPD) available online atwww.32bjfunds.com or by calling Mem-ber Services at 800-551-32BJ (3225),Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm. Your eligibility depends on the particular collective bargaining agree-ment or participation agreement cover-ing your employment. Generally, the waiting period for training is 90 days unless otherwise specified in your collective bargaining agreement or participation agreement. If you become ineligible and are out ofwork for more than 90 days, you may berequired to complete the waiting periodagain. If you are taking a class when youbecome ineligible you will be allowed tocomplete your classes for that trimester.
On-Site Classes If you, a management company, or building owner have 10 or more eligible participants interested in attending a class and have appropriate space, the 32BJ Training Fund can present classes marked with the symbol at your build-ing. Call 212-539-2808 for more details.
Creating an Environ-ment for LearningParticipants who take courses through the 32BJ Training Fund are hardworking people who make a commitment to their personal and professional development. Our Rules & Regulations are distrib-uted at the start of each course. You are expected not only to read the Rules & Regulations, but also to show your fellow students the respect they deserve by abiding by these rules.
Attendance PolicyMinimum attendance of 80 percent is required. Unfortunately, Academic and Computer classes that do not have regular attendance of at least 8 students may be closed or combined. We will do our best to accommodate all students in another section.
Course/Quick Course Prerequisites Some Courses and Quick Courses require you to complete a prerequisite— a preparatory course—before you enroll. Some courses require minimum reading and math skills. Mastery of these skills can be established by presenting a U.S. High School Diploma, or High School Equivalency (GED), or by passing a standardized test at registration. These prerequisites are noted above the course description if they are required.
Emergency School ClosingsTo inquire about the possible cancel-lation of classes in the event of a weather emergency or other hazardous condi-tions, call 212-388-3701 for courses in Manhattan. For other locations contact your Site Manager.

Test Out AvailableThe 32BJ Training Fund allows members to test out of some prerequisite courses, where available. This is indicated above the course descriptions.
ELIGIBILITY / REGISTRA Registration InformationEvery eligible member will have an equal opportunity to register for courses. Enrollment in high-demand courses will be determined by lottery, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that courses may be cancelled if enrollment is less than anticipated.

What to Bring• Union ID to gain access to the building• Name(s) of course(s) you want to take and days and times that you are
available to take the courses• Original copy of a High School Diploma from an English speaking country
or an original copy of your High School Equivalency Diploma (GED). For those members without diplomas or High School Equivalency (GED) results, alternative testing arrangements will be made at the time of your registration.
• If you are a new member, you may be asked to provide a pay stub to verify eligibility for classes.

Get on TrackThe 32BJ Training Program has developed several Career Tracks intended to provide each student with the essential tools and mechanical abilities needed to achieve the next level in their career. Each Career Track is composed of both required and elective Courses/Quick Courses developed to give students the fundamental structure neces- sary to meet the challenges and changes in today’s building service industry. Career Tracks are designed to give students a well-rounded practical and theo-retical knowledge of their field. Please note that Courses may be taken at any location where they are offered.
Prerequisites may apply to Career Tracks; check catalog Course descriptions for more information. If an equivalent online course is available in our catalog, it can be counted toward completion of your Career Track.
If your schedule prevents you from completing a required Course for a Career Track, you may be able to substitute a different course with prior approval. Check with the administrative office.

For certification, students must pass a written exam administered by NYARM at the 32BJ Training Fund

Review proper soldering and brazing techniques through hands-on practice. Learn about new environmen-tally friendly refrigerants.

Prerequisite: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration ITroubleshoot and make mechanical and electrical repairs to domestic refrigera-tors. Learn the basic cycle of a domestic refrigerator, and the tools and techniques used to install pressure gauges as per EPA regulations. Understand system pressure, recovery, evacuation, charging, and meth-ods used to leak-check systems. Read electrical schematics and understand basic motor principles and operation.

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration: EPA Certification for Refrigerant Recovery
FIVE 3-HOUR SESSIONS
Prepare to take the EPA Certification for the Refrigeration License Preparation examination or for Refrigeration License renewal. Learn about the test format, core general knowledge, the Clean Air Act, dehydration, safety, leak detection, and Type 1, 2, and 3 requirements. The exam will be administered in the final class. The MFBO certification expires every 3 years. The course consists of two sessions of review and then a session for the written exam and a session for the field exam. Tanto si usted es un estudiante vet-erano como si está planeando tomar su primera clase, el Fondo de capacitación tiene mucho que ofrecerle. Con casi 150 cursos en 40 ubicaciones y más de una docena de opciones en línea, es más sen-cillo que nunca aprovechar el beneficio de capacitación de 32BJ financiado por el empleador.
Si cree que no tiene tiempo para realizar un curso completo, no deje de consultar nuestros cursos rápidos. Los cursos rápidos están indicados con un título naranja. Ofrecemos cursos rápidos a lo largo de todo el año sobre más de 100 temas distintos que incluyen solución de problemas eléctricos, tejados ecológicos, ciudadanía, cuidado de pisos: madera, cuidado de pisos: moqueta, gestión del tiempo y servicio al cliente. Puede tratarse de una sesión de 3 horas sobre seguridad con productos químicos en el lugar de trabajo o seis sesiones de 3 horas de un curso intensivo de pronunciación de Inglés como segundo idioma (ESL), pero es muy posible que tengamos un curso rápido que satisfaga sus necesi-dades y sus horarios.

ElegibilidadLa elegibilidad para participar en el 32BJ Training Fund está ampliamente detal-lada en la Descripción abreviada del plan (SPD, por sus siglas en inglés) disponible en línea en training.32bjfunds.com, o si llama al Centro de servicios para afili-ados al 800-551-32BJ (3225), de lunes a viernes, de 8 a. m. a 5 p. m.
Su elegibilidad depende del acuerdo colectivo de trabajo específico o del acuerdo de participación que lo cubra en su empleo. Generalmente, el periodo de espera es de 90 días, a menos que se espe-cifique otra cosa en su acuerdo colectivo de trabajo o acuerdo de participación.
Si pierde su elegibilidad y permanece fuera del trabajo más de 90 días, necesi-tará completar el periodo de espera nue-vamente. Si está tomando clases y pierde su elegibilidad se le permitirá completar sus clases durante ese trimestre.
