James PriceHead CoachFifth SeasonCareer Record: 110-159-25 Record at UNI: 22-42-10

University of Northern Iowa head women’s soccer coach James Price is beginning his fifth season at the helm of the Panther women’s soccer program.

Price has guided the Panthers to a winning improvement in each of his four years in the Missouri Valley Conference - capped by a 3-2-2 mark in MVC play in 2012. The Panthers hosted their first-ever MVC Tournament game in 2012.

During the 2011 campaign, Price earned his 100th career victory with a 1-0 win over Evansville. The win came during a five-game win streak, the longest in program history. The Panthers also earned a trip to the MVC Tournament for the fifth time in school history; the first under Price. UNI was tabbed with the 6th-seed and traveled to face the No. 3-seeded Creighton Bluejays in Omaha, Neb. The Panthers earned the victory over Creighton on penalty kicks, 5-3, after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer. UNI was defeated 2-1 in the semifinals of the MVC tournament in overtime by the hosts and no. 2-seeded Missouri State Bears.

Price was named the women’s soccer coach at UNI by Director of Athletics Troy Dannen on Dec. 22, 2008. After the 2010 campaign, Price received a contract extension making him the head coach of the Panthers through the 2015 season.

Before joining the Panthers, Price spent 11 years as the head coach at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. After resigning from Liberty in 2008, Price spent a season as the technical director for the Soccer Organization of Charlottesville Albemarle.

“I am pleased with the foundation that James has laid for the UNI women’s soccer program in his first two years,” Dannen said. “His leadership is enabling our program to position itself for competitive success, and he has proven to be an outstanding leader for the young women in our program.”

During his tenure with the Flames, Price led the team to three Big South Conference Tournament titles, and two Big South Conference regular-season crowns, in addition to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Price guided 39 all-conference athletes, with 20 of them earning first team all-conference nods. Two players were named Big South Players of the Year, along with three Big South Tournament MVP awards. Price was named Big South Coach of the Year in 1999, with the Flames finishing runner-up at the Big South Tournament.

“I would like to thank Troy for this wonderful opportunity,” Price said. “I was impressed with the athletic

administration’s commitment to the women’s soccer team, and by the honesty and eagerness of the returning players. There is already a solid foundation, and I look forward to working hard with the players and staff to build a soccer program that UNI can be proud of. I also plan to reach out to the Cedar Valley soccer community, and form strong relationships throughout the area.”

Price was a member of the NCAA Women’s Soccer National Committee from 2002-2005. In addition, Price served as the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Committee Chair from 2003-2005.

Along with guiding his athletes to success on the field, Price also placed a strong emphasis on academics. Three of his athletes were named Big South Scholar Athlete of the year, along with two Academic All-America selections and two Academic All- Region and Academic All-District selections. The Flames women’s soccer team had the highest GPA at Liberty, with a spring 2008 GPA of 3.26.

Prior to his time at Liberty, Price served as an assistant coach at Randolph Macon Women’s College from 1996-1997 and also as the director of coaching for the Lynchburg United Soccer Travel Club.

Price played collegiate soccer for the Flames from 1993-1996 and later played with the USISL pro league team Roanoke Wrath from 1996-2000. In his native country of England, Price played at the semi-pro level with the Chessington United from 1991-1993.

Price earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Liberty in 1996. Price also holds an associate degree in exercise science from Farnborough College of Technology in England.

MUNCIE, Ind -- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team opened their season this afternoon with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the Ball State Cardinals. The Panthers jumped on the scoreboard first with a 40th minute goal from sophomore mid-fielder Maggie Riley. Riley was attempting a corner kick and sent it directly into the net for the score, unfortunately that would be the only goal for UNI.

Ball State evened the score at the 48th minute when Michele Blok legged a shot from outside the box into the top left portion of the net. Five minutes later in the 52nd minute Blok would strike again. Once more from outside the box, sending her goal into the bottom left of the net.

Ball State outshot the Panthers 14 to four, including 6 shots on goal. Only two corner kicks were attempted by each team. The Panthers were whistled for 10 fouls while Ball State was called for seven.

Redshirt Freshman goalkeeper Whitney Blunt suffered the loss. Blunt started between the posts for the Panthers and had 3 saves to go with the two Ball State goals against. Blunt was replaced by senior goalkeeper Nicole Postel who turned away one Ball State shot in her one clean half of play.

Brady Clark, Amber Nieland and Annie Dale were the three other Panthers who attempted shots with one each.

The Panthers will stay on the road for their next contest at IPFW on Sunday, August 25. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

GREEN BAY, WIS -- The Northern Iowa women's soccer team is participating in the Green Bay Tournament this weekend in Wis-consin. Their first matchup pitted them against the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

Coming off of two losses to start the season the Panthers were focused and ready to capture their first victory of the 2013 season.

UNI used an aggressive offense and sound defense to defeat EIU. Eight Panther's total recorded shots. Maddie Welch, Liz Frerichs, Larin Gordon, Annie Dale, Sarah McHugh, Brady Clark, Mary Brandt and Morgan Gallagher all contributed to the offensive attack.

Coach James Price's team totalled 11 shots while Eastern Illinois was only able to fire 4 shots, with only one being on goal. The ag-gressive offensive attack also provided the Panthers 10 corner kicks to EIU's one.

UNI's first goal would come on one of those corner kicks. During the 71st minute sophomore Midfielder Maggie Riley laced a corner kick in front of the goal and freshman defender Mary Brandt was there to head the ball into the net.

A short time later in the 81st minute freshman Amber Nieland at-tempted a put-back that found senior Morgan Gallagher's head for the second and final score of the match.

Senior Nicole Postel was between the posts for the entire 90 min-utes for the Panthers. Turning away EIU's only shot on goal for the shutout and the win.

The Panthers will be back in action on Sunday, September 1st at 11a.m. against Western Illinois.

GREEN BAY, WIS -- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team was defeated by Western Illinois 2-1 in a physical bat-tle on Sunday afternoon.

After winning their first game of the Green Bay Tournament the Panthers came up just short in their second matchup of the week-end against the Western Illinois Leathernecks.

The Panthers found themselves playing from behind for nearly the entire game after the Leathernecks were able to begin the scoring in the 4th minute off of a failed corner kick. WIU's Sloane Levin re-ceived a pass from Amber Davis at the top of the box and was able to sneak the shot past UNI's Nicole Postel.

In the 56th minute of the second half the Leathernecks would ex-tend their lead. Skyler Jessop touched a through ball to Tyra Mar-key who launched a shot from 18 yards out that got past a diving Postel.

Playing from behind the Panthers would turn up their offensive aggresiveness down the stretch, coming close to scoring multiple times. In the 79th minute UNI would get on the scoreboard when sophomore defender Sarah McHugh re-directed a deflection toward senior teammate Allie Brees who headed the ball in net for her first goal of the season.

Unfortunately the Panthers could not put another shot in net. UNI totalled 11 shots, 5 of which were on goal. Allie Brees, Maddie Welch, Claire Clark, Annie Dale, Sam Copley and Katie Witt all re-corded at least one shot attempt.

Each team recorded four corner kicks for the game. WIU's goal-keeper Laura Atkinson earned the win with one goal against and six saves in 90 minutes. Panthers senior goalkeeper Nicole Postel suffered the loss with two goals against and six saves in her 90 minutes.

The Panthers will return home for their next match against Nebras-ka-Omaha on Friday, September 6th. Kickoff is at 7p.m.

Crossing winds were re-routing passes and making it difficult for either team to establish much rhythm on their attacks. The Leath-ernecks would get on the scoreboard in the 59th minute when junior forward Sarah Hall struck a crossing shot that found the net for WIU's first goal.

The Leathernecks would add to their score in the 70th minute when sophomore forward Skyler Jessop put back her penalty kick.

WIU outshot the Panthers 20 to 6. UNI goalkeeper Nicole Postel was busy, recording 14 saves and playing all 90 minutes while taking the loss. Leatherneck's goalkeeper Victoria Kappel recorded 4 saves in her winning effort.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Northern Iowa women's soccer team faced off against South Dakota State Sunday afternoon. The Jack-rabbits entered the game 3-2-2 after their road victory against Drake on Wednesday.

UNI head coach James Price inserted Brady Clark into the forward position, and it resulted in plenty of offensive opportunity for the Panthers. Clark responded with four shots, three of which deflected off the post.

During the second half South Dakota State challenged the Pan-thers, recording six of their 10 total shots in the half. However, 90 minutes proved to not be enough time. After a scoreless first overtime, the Jackrabbits were able to put back a deflection after a corner kick. Diana Potterveld shot the deflected cross past diving Panther goalkeeper Nicole Postel for the victory.

SDSU attempted 12 corner kicks and totalled 10 shots. Jackrabbit goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep recorded the victory while recording only one save due to the Panthers unlucky knack for hitting the goal posts early in the match.

The Panthers totalled five shots and three corner kicks. Brady Clark recorded four shot attempts, teammate Caitlyn Fuller was responsi-ble for the other shot. Annie Dale was whistled for a yellow card in the 84th minute.
