2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
Felicitation of rank holders during college day function.
Felicitation of teachers who have been awarded PhD.
Recognising their services felicitation of retired teachers.
Academic results of the students are documented and weaker students are given special
attention.
Each department is encouraged to conduct special lectures in their respective fields.
1. Dr. Anil Mavila, Scientist from Pentagon, USA gave a special lecture on tghe
„Application of Bio-Chemistry in Bio-Technology‟ to the BSC students.
2. Raghavendra N Bhat a X std student child prodigy of Madhava Kripa School,
Manipal gave a talk on Maths, Magic and Music for PG mathematic students. He
exhibited his mathematical skill in numbers in combination with music.
3. For PG mathematic students a workshop on “MATLAB PROGRAMMING”, was
conducted on July 30, 2013 by Mr. Vinay Madhusudhan,Assistant Proffessor,
Department of Mathematics, MIT, Manipal,
4. On teachers day a literary scholar Ambhathanaya Mudradi addressed the students
and teachers.
5. Dr. Shanmugam, IGNOU, Regional Centre, Bangalore delivered a special lecture
on „Opportunities for Pursuing Higher Education Through Distance Mode‟ on 8th
February 2014
6. English department organised a workshop for II BBM students on „Using Web
Resources for English Language Learning‟ on 2nd
February 2014. 7. PG history students were taken on study tour to Barkur, a town with ancient
temples.
8. Commerce department conducted a programme on Mind Mapping by Kamalesh
Jain on 9th
and 10th
December and on 30-1-2014 Dr. Narayan Kayarkatt and Team
conducted a workshop on Communication, Motivation and Teamwork.
Special programmes are conducted to bring out the inherent talent of the students.
Special camp for NSS volunteers was conducted to give students firsthand experience
of rural life and social service.
The college has a wall magazine where students‟ creative writings, poems, drawings
and paintings are exhibited.
Apart from the wall magazine the department of Journalism periodically brings out
news letter.
Annual college magazine where selected articles, poems, drawings along with photos of
various activities are brought out every year.
„STAR‟ a personality development programme has been successfully organised to final
year degree students. The programme laid emphasis on developing soft skill and
communication.
An active counselling cell headed by HOD of Psychology department function to cater
the needs of students.
Periodical meetings of the staff and committees are conducted to chalk out various
programmes for quality improvement of the institution.
Necessary steps are taken to upgrade the list of periodicals and books in the library.
Periodical pertaining to relevant subjects are subscribed. Whenever financial
allotments are made newly published books are purchased.

SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITES Students are encouraged to participate in sports and cultural activities.
Our college has hosted inter-collegiate women‟s kabbadi university level sports event. Pramila I MCom represented Mangalore University in All India Inter-University
Handballtournament held at Madhya Pradesh. Akshatha IIBA represented Mangalore
University in All India Inter-University Kabbadi tournament.
Our College Kabbadi team won the first place in beach kabbadi festival held at Malpe, Udupi
and third place in Mangalore university inter-collegiate tournament.
In the in cultural competition held on 15-08-2013 at Congress Bhavan our students secured
second place and a cash reward of Rs.5000.
Akshatha of II BA, has secured second place in music competition held at Bhandarkar‟s
college, Kundapur on 12 August 2013.
Akshatha of II BA secured second place in the inter-collegiate university level essay writing
competition held at Vivekananda College, Puttur on 4th
of January 2014.
Sukanya of III BCom secure First place in Master of Ceremony in the inter-collegiate cultural completion held at Vidyaniketha, Kapu on 11-1-2014.
Our college secured first place in Street Drama conducted by human rights cell of Govt. PU college, Udupi on 10-02-2014.
Apart from winning these prizes our students have taken active part in various inter-college
competition. Our students have participated in inter-collegiate cultural competition Bhandarkars
College Kundapur; inter-college debate competition at Milagres College, Kalyanpur and Poorna
Prajna College, Udupi; inter-collegiate fest at Govt. First Grade College, Barkur; „Vybhav‟ inter-college fest conducted by GFGC, Hebri and

Semester exams are conducted as per the rules of the university and each student answer script is bar coded.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes :
The IQAC plays an important role in monitoring and evaluating the teaching and learning process. In
this context IQAC has taken the following important steps,
In the beginning of the academic year the IQAC prepares calendar of events which
informs the important dates of events like opening and closing of semester,
examinations, talents day, college day etc.
In the end of the academic year teachers evaluation by students are conducted.
Students‟ progression is monitored through internal assessment tests, class test and
seminars.

3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the institution
Teaching faculty is encouraged to purse PhD. Permanent as well as guest faculties are encouraged to participate in International/
National/state seminars and also present papers. Staffs are encouraged to go as resource persons and give special lectures in other

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of extension activities and Institutional Social
Responsibility
0n 02/08/2013 communal harmony day was organised where the students took oath to maintain
communal harmony.
On 03/09/2013 our students participated in „Eye Donation‟ awareness programme. In the march
past our college was judged as best marching team.
On 10/09/2013 on the occasion of 150 years of Vivekananda birth anniversary our NSS
volunteers participated in „Run for India‟ marathon.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi an essay competition was organised for the students.
Annual NSS special camp was organised from 23/12/2013 to 29/12/2013 at Kukkikatte. 102
volunteers participated in the special camp. Besides the social service every day educational
programmes were organised on various issues. The students were enlightened on important
issues like health, law, women‟s empowerment etc. Special lectures, skill development and
training were imparted to the students by various resource persons.
In association with Red Cross Udupi, Lions Club and Ujjwal Group Udupi, a blood donation
camp was organised on 04/02/2014. 62 students donated blood.
Our students participated in a public march to create awareness on voting rights.

5. Student Support and Progression
5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services
In enhancing awareness about Student Support Services IQAC has made the following efforts:
Important support services are mentioned in the prospectus
Making aware of the governmental and non-governmental scholarships that can be
availed by the students.
Teenage health and hygiene awareness in campus is organised.
Through NSS series of awareness programmes are organised.
Class teachers collect the feedback about student support services.
Convenors are assigned for each support services.

6.2 Does the Institution has a management Information System
We have developed our own programme in excel which gives the details of the students. The programme developed gives results of the class, subject and the individual marks
scored by the student. Overall results, category wise results, distinction, first class, second class, pass and fail
can also be derived.
6.3 Quality improvement strategies adopted by the institution for each of the following:
6.3.1 Curriculum Development
As the college is affiliated to Mangalore University the curriculum is decided by the
university. But the college implements the curriculum in accordance with the
university rules and regulations.
Senior faculty members who are in BOS help in the up gradation of the syllabus at
the time of its revision.

Various committees are formed for smooth functioning of the academic
and administrative activities of the college.
Opportunities are provided for students to participate in NSS, NCC, Sports
and Cultural activities.

managers of the commercial establishments in and around Udupi.
Employment seeking students bio-data are send to the commercial establishments for their consideration.

The admission committee conducts the admission of the students. Every year at
the time of admission under the chairmanship of the principal the committee
chalks out the procedure of admissions. Admission is done based on the rules and
regulations framed by the government and the university.

All the outgoing students take the membership of Alumni Association.
Alumni interact with students sharing their knowledge and experience.
6.12 Activities and support from the Parent – Teacher Association
PTA meeting was held on 13-08-2013 at Town Hall, Udupi where CDC chairman, Sri.
Pramod Madwaraj, MLA of Udupi addressed the gathering.
Parents agreed to contribute Rs.500 for the development of the college and to
meet the emergency expenses.
Funds were allocated for the construction of science, block, lab platform and to dig
a bore well.
6.13 Development programmes for support staff
Support staff plays a vital role in the functioning of the institution. They are allotted time
bound duties. In case of delay in salary advance pay is paid from College Development
Fund. Support staffs are given encouraged to do research and attend seminars and
workshops.

6.14 Initiatives taken by the institution to make the campus eco-friendly
Since our campus is built in a small area there isn’t much scope to grow plants and trees.
But within a small area we have developed a small garden. To create ecological awareness
tree plantation programmes are conducted. The students are trained eco-friendly
disposable of wastes and maintain hygiene.

7.1 Innovations introduced during this academic year which have created a positive impact on the
functioning of the institution. Give details.
Documentation of students results immediately after the announcement of semester
results has enabled the teachers to identify the status of the students progress and take
remedial measures.

beginning of the year

NSS special camp in an adopted village. 100 students stay for in the village and
take up programmes like cleaning the village roads. By interacting with the villagers and through special lectures and cultural activities students bring awareness about the importance of education, cleanliness and social evils.
Students’ results are kept ready hand after the university semester exams.
Based on the performance respective teachers take necessary actions.

7.4 Contribution to environmental awareness / protection
Every year NSS organises tree plantation programme. In the adopted village during
the annual camp apart from cleaning, tree plantation programmes are organised.
