Brentwood Academy is a co-educational,

independent, college preparatory school

dedicated to nurturing and challenging

the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—

to the glory of God.

This publication is testament to the love and support from faculty, parents,

parents of alumni, alumni, and grandparents for Brentwood Academy.

It is humbling to reflect upon my memories of the school’s founding in 1969. My

father was a 34-year-old founding headmaster; T.P. Kennedy’s cows grazed on

what are now the baseball and softball fields; construction had begun on the first

four classrooms; and, in faith, those first 74 families stepped out and began the

journey of offering exceptional education built on a culture of Christ-centered

relationships. I am so grateful to all the men and women who came before us

and to have the opportunity to watch God’s work among the BA family and our

community over the years.

Headmaster Curt Masters consistently and confidently guides us in our mission

to nurture and challenge each whole person – body, mind and spirit – to the glory

of God. I am grateful for his principled leadership of the heart and soul of our

school—the exceptional faculty and staff who are gifted and skillful in knowing,

challenging, and pouring their hearts into our students and families.

We are grateful to God for His provision and appreciate the support of BA

through volunteers and donors.

Alumni SupportThis year, the Alumni Council set

a goal to raise enough funds to

cover the cost of a new bus and to

sponsor Spiritual Emphasis Week.

Council member Jake Eaton ’98

said, “The Alumni Council is

humbled and blessed to be part of

about continuing the mission

of our Alma Mater. The largest

financial response from alumni in

school history to the Annual Fund

allowed for the alumni to enhance

the experience for the next

generation of BA leaders. Through

our giving of time and resources,

we have connected with the

school and the positive ways in

which BA has shaped our lives

and influence those around us.”

Endowment The Endowment capital provides financial resiliency for all of Brentwood Academy,

an important security in challenging economic times. The annual payout from

the Endowment supports BA faculty and programs. Our goal is to grow the

Endowment in the coming years so its annual income can more strongly support

the priorities of BA.

Endowed funds may be created with current gifts or planned gifts like bequests,

charitable trusts or remainders of retirement funds. A donor may add to existing

funds or may consider creating a new fund to honor a family member, faculty

member or other specific individual. To explore making an endowed gift to BA,

Ensuring retention and recruitment of the most qualified faculty, honoring Barbara

Stewart, who has faithfully served Brentwood Academy as history teacher since 1972.

CHRIS DOWDLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Supporting need-based aid for children of alumni, honoring the memory of

Chris Dowdle ’97. In addition, each year, a scholarship award for college is

given to a graduating senior who characterizes true team spirit, a love of the

game of golf, and the willingness to make time for others.

THE MARSHALL C. SMITH ENDOWMENT FUND

Supporting need-based aid for children of alumni, recognizing Coach Marshall

Smith ’97 and his commitment to Brentwood Academy.

DUNCAN LIBRARY FUND

The Duncan Library Fund was initiated by Duncan School alumni who want to

continue the legacy of Duncan School through Brentwood Academy.

GENERAL ENDOWMENT: A percentage of the Endowment is used annually to support general operating

expenses, while specific endowed funds provide for special-interest areas

including spiritual life, academic programs, financial aid, arts, or service projects.
