Help us give TLC to Guild members

If you know of a Guild member who isn’t well or could use a cheery note, please email Rae Struebing at [email protected] or [email protected].

Welcome new member:Helen Uhfelder

Guild members know better than most people that knitting and crocheting are a high form of socialization. There's nothing better than spending an afternoon stitching with friends over a cup of tea. The annual Guild retreat is a testimony to our love of sharing our craft with others. This explains the popularity of knit-alongs. With the cooling temperatures and slower pace of Sep-tember, it's the perfect time to start two knit-alongs at Baa Baa Sheep. Please join us for the following:

Cedar Leaf Shawlette - Beginning Sept. 10 we'll be meeting every Tuesday at 10 a.m. to work on Alana Dakos' Cedar Leaf Shawlette. It uses DK weight yarn to create a crescent shaped shawl that functions as a scarf. Alana recommends Malabrigo Silky Merino and BBS has lots of gorgeous colorways from which to choose.

Stephen West Mystery KAL - Stephen releases his first clue for a mystery shawl on Friday, Sept. 13, so'll we'll start knitting it Tuesday, Sept. 17, at six o'clockish during our regular social knit-ting time. He is using three different colors, so I've already picked out the Anzula I'll be using, but any fingering weight will do.

To keep track of new yarns as they arrive, join the Baa Baa Sheep Friends group on Ravelry and monitor the New Arrivals topic.

Thank youto the members of the Guild who have made me feel wel-come in the Tidewater knit-ting community. I look for-

ward to meeting many more of you. Roz Klein

Charity knitting: Keep up the good workBy Chris Goudeau

Thank you to all who donated items this last month. I’ll be delivering your blankets, six of them, to the Navy/Marine Relief Society and will pick up some more yarn to distribute at next month’s meeting.

As of the August meeting, 22 of our Guild members have donated 225 knit or crochet items to a charity. This is great; keep up the good work!

Please bring your items to be donated locally to the next meeting and we’ll see that they are distributed. If you have items that you have given to an out-of-town charity, you should notate that on the charity log.

Remember to sign the Charity Knitting log each month when you attend our meetings or email me at [email protected].

The TKGV super raffle is back, continued from p.1

Welcome to the Yarn Club Challenge. Over the next several months, we will be challenging our knitters and crocheters to compete. Each month there will be a new challenge with a new featured yarn, pattern category and techniques. Items will be judged by TYC employees and customers. There will be prizes for each month’s winner. All customers who voted for the winner will be entered into a raffle drawing for a prize. All you have to do is either choose a pattern within one of the pattern categories of the month and/or choose the featured yarn of the month. Then choose as many techniques as you wish to use; the more techniques, the more points you earn. Sorry; no employees or their family mem-bers are eligible to compete. Each challenge begins on the first day of the month and ends on the last day of the same month (except Dec./Jan.). All yarns must be pur-chased from The Yarn Club. At the end of the month, the item must be submitted to The Yarn Club with an index card with your name, phone number, pattern name, start and finish date of the corresponding month and the techniques used. Please staple the label(s) of the yarn(s) used to the index card. If the item required more than one brand of yarn and/or more than one colorway, a label for each different yarn and/or colorway must be submitted. You may not start before the month of the designated challenge and you must finish by the last day of the same month. Your completed project and index card must be brought into the shop within five business days from the end of the month. All projects will be displayed in the shop for two weeks during which time everyone can vote on their favorite. The winner will be announced by the 25th of the following challenge month. Pictures of projects may be taken and posted on TYC social media sites. Prizes: Monthly winner prizes may include yarn, needles, notions, bags, gift certificates, and/or chocolate valued at $50-$100.
