WHO SAYSGETTINGHEALTHYCAN'T BE

Letter from the President

It is my hope and prayer that 2012 is healthy and prosperous for each of you. At the YMCA of Greenville we are thankful for your support as we look forward to an exciting new year!

The past year was one of growth and strong mission outreach for our association. We experienced a major expansion in the Golden Strip area with the addition of the new GHS Family YMCA . This new branch, the result of a strong partnership with Greenville Hospital System and other valuable community partners and friends, has more than doubled our reach into southern Greenville County. Through our Open Doors campaign more children and families were served association-wide than ever before. We were blessed with the new opportunity to provide YMCA After School care programs to elementary students at Legacy Charter school.

The advancement of the YMCA of Greenville in ways such as this would not be possible without the strong network of Y members and friends that serves as the foundation of our association. When people join the Y, they become a part of more than just a facility or an organization…they become a part of our cause to strengthen community. Through your membership you touch the lives of many by helping to provide services to those not financially able to afford them. You offer a hand to a single mother in need of childcare, you give a father the chance to enroll his son in youth sports programs and a child the opportunity to learn to swim. The Y is about families and you help make our family stronger by building up our community.

This year will be an extra special one for our Y family as we celebrate the Centennial of our beloved YMCA Camp Greenville. For a hundred years, generations of children and families have benefited from the “mountaintop,” resident camp experience at Camp Greenville. It’s a place where young leaders are developed, outdoor adventure skills are learned and lifelong friendships are formed. We will commemorate this historical legacy camp throughout 2012 with various community activities, so please watch for opportunities to join in the celebration!

We wish you and your family a happy and blessed New Year!
