letter from the organizer

Welcome to the four-day 2012 Whistler Longboard Festival. Our aim with this guide is to give you a little insight into the thrill and excitement that we get from riding a longboard skate-board.

The WLF came to be after years of proving ourselves at the Annual Britannia Classic held just outside Squamish. As the Olympics approached, we knew that we needed to show Whistler what we could accomplish. We worked hard and waited patiently for the Olympics to finish and Whistler’s focus to shift to new events.

Our festival has grown from two days to four in 2012, and now offers three full days of down-hill at the Whistler Sliding Centre. We also have one day for our Endurance Race and Skate-and-Shoot out at the Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley.

What’s unique about the Festival is our setting. Whistler’s geography is unmatched, and the Sliding Centre Road and the Whistler Olympic Park locations are no exception. What better place to have a downhill race than in the downhill gravity mecca of Whistler?

The Festival is growing and we’d like to acknowledge those that have helped us make it hap-pen. Thank you to the Whistler Sport Legacies, Whistler Blackcomb, and The Resort Municipal-ity of Whistler for sharing our vision. Thank you to Arbor Skateboards for presenting our three day Downhill Event at the Whistler Sliding Centre, and to Rayne Longboards for presenting our Skate X Shoot.
