Letter from the President Dear Stockton Ports Fans:

As the 2012 season comes to a close in the California League, I would like to thank you for your continued support of the Stockton Ports and reflect on all of the exciting and terrific things that were accomplished on and off the field this season.

Our fans clearly demonstrated their high level of dedication and commitment this season, showing why they are the best fans of any team in the California League. I am joined by our ownership and all of our front office, on-field personnel, and game day staff when I say thank you for your support this season.

A ballpark is brought to life by its fans, and once again you have helped bring Banner Island Ballpark to

life with your enthusiasm and dedication to the team and the game of baseball. You make the ballpark the ideal place to be on any spring or summer night in Stockton. One only had to look at the 5,649 fans here on July 3 to see that Stocktonians enjoy the affordable and fun family entertainment we provide here at the ballpark.

The 2012 season included amazing achievements on the field, like A.J. Kirby-Jones and Josh Whitaker

both accomplishing the feat of three homeruns in one game, Miles Head’s selection to the 2012 California League Mid-Season All-Star team , and an array of Ports selected as the California League Player or Pitcher of the Week, including A.J. Kirby-Jones, Jake Brown, Josh Bowman, Max Stassi, Miles Head, and Sean Murphy. In addition to these exciting performances and many others, we have made several exciting strides off the field.

The Ports Anchor Fund generated over $14,000 this season from the generous support of fans at various

events. Every cent of those funds will go to support child-based community outreach programs in Stockton and San Joaquin County. Once again, the Ports have teamed with Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel to support the Dameron Hospital “Sweet Success” Diabetes program. Jackson Rancheria generously donated $25 for each of the 586 strikeouts by the Ports pitching staff, totaling $14,650.

We were also proud to host several terrific special events at Banner Island Ballpark this season, such as

the Run/Walk Against Hunger on Thanksgiving Day. We are proud to serve our community by offering our stadium as a host venue for a variety of events. This has been an exciting and fun-filled season, both on and off the field for the Stockton Ports. It’s been a pleasure to serve our fans and to bring them the best of family entertainment here at Banner Island Ballpark!

2012 Season Wrap-Up

Although the Stockton Ports did not have the best record in their division, the California League Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics had an exciting 2012 season that cannot be measured in wins and losses alone. Multiple extra-inning games and walk-off wins proved that Banner Island Ballpark is the premier destination for affordable, exciting family fun in Stockton. This season, the Ports played an 18-inning game, swept a series against Bakersfield after a 15-inning game, recorded a season-high 18 hits in one game, hit back-to-back homeruns, scored 14 runs in front of a sellout crowd on July 4, and ended the season with two straight comeback wins. A.J. Kirby-Jones and Josh Whitaker both hit three homeruns in single games (April 18 and June 25, respectively), and Chad Oberacker hit for the cycle on May 29.

Because of these accomplishments and more, several Ports were honored by the California League. CAL League Players of the Week included A.J. Kirby-Jones, Miles Head, and Max Stassi. Jake Brown, Sean Murphy, and Josh Bowman were also named CAL League Pitchers of the Week. Miles Head was honored as the Ports’ California League Mid-Season All-Star Team selection.

However, Ports players didn’t provide the only excitement on the field. A’s pitcher Brett Anderson, Rockies pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, and Giants infielder Pablo Sandoval all made rehab appearances at Banner Island Ballpark in 2012. And even off the field, the Ports were excited to welcome Rickey Henderson, Dave Henderson, Steve Garvey, Eric Byrnes, and plenty of Ports alumni to the ballpark for various events and appearances.

After receiving the honor of 2011 Minor League Baseball Promotion of the Year for their Dallas Braden bobble-belly, the Ports were excited to please fans once again with fun and innovative promotions in 2012. One fan favorite was the presidential candidate seat cushion, which gave recipients the opportunity to support either Barack Obama or Mitt Romney by sitting on their competitor’s face. The Ports also offered a garden gnome in the likeness of Doug Wilhoit, the CEO of the Stockton Chamber of Commerce, as well as Michael Choice and Jemile Weeks bobbleheads. On June 29, the Ports even gave away five iPads to fans! Fourteen fireworks nights capped off an exciting season, both on and off the field, for the Stockton Ports.

Ports Anchor Fund

The Anchor Fund, the Ports’ community fund, is the first of its kind in the storied history of the organization. The fund was established in 2007 and has helped support countless community projects, with a focus on youth centers and youth sports. The charitable fund reflects and reaffirms the Ports’ commitment to strengthening the community by using baseball and entertainment as a backdrop.

Monies raised by the Anchor Fund benefit children-based charitable endeavors in San Joaquin County, although the fund is not limited to this. Most area charitable organizations are considered as potential beneficiaries of the Anchor Fund.

Ticket Donation Program

Every Stockton Ports season ticketholder has the opportunity to contribute to the Anchor Fund simply by donating their unused Ports tickets. The Ports organization, along with Martha’s All Natural, then matches all ticket donations made.

In 2012, 412 tickets were generously donated to different organizations and groups around the Stockton community.

These organizations below benefited from the generous contributions by Ports fans towards the Ticket Donation Program, presented by Martha’s All Natural:

“K” Counter

The Ports once again partnered with Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel to give back to the community. For each strikeout or “K” that a Ports pitcher recorded at home, Jackson donated $25 to Dameron Hospital's "Sweet Success" Pregnancy Diabetes Program. In 2012, the Ports and Jackson were able to donate $14,650 to Dameron Hospital.

Little League Sponsorship

Supporting local little leagues is one of the Stockton Ports’ highest priorities when it comes to community involvement. Since these children are the future of baseball, it is crucial that local leagues have everything they need to produce the next generation of all-stars. During the 2012 season, the Ports supported the following 16 little leagues with grants of $250 each:

Baseball by the Books

The Stockton Ports proudly support schools in the San Joaquin & surrounding counties with their Baseball by the Books program presented by Subway Restaurants. For the sixth straight season, the Ports have traveled to schools around the area promoting the importance of reading.

The purpose of the reading program is to encourage students to read both inside and outside the classroom. Students were required to read five books (or seven if in middle school) in a two-month time period. Over 40,600 bookmarks were given to students from 80 schools. The reward for completing the program was two free tickets to a Stockton Ports game during the 2012 season. The Ports also provided over 20 of the participating schools with special visits from our mascot, Splash.

In addition to the free tickets, the school with the best overall participation in the program was rewarded $1,000 towards their PTA, courtesy of the Ports Anchor Fund. The 2012 grand prize winner was Monticello Elementary of Tracy. Elmwood Elementary of Stockton took home the second place prize of $500.

Kids Club

The Subway Everyday Eddie’s Kids Club is open to all Ports fans 12 years and younger. The program is sponsored by Subway and major league all-star and Stockton native Eddie Guardado. For the first time, club membership was completely free in 2012. Benefits included:

• A free ticket to any Ports Sunday home game

• Invitations to VIP events, including Splash's birthday kickball game (on the field), special player meet & greets, an autograph signing with Splash, and much more

• Being first in line for Kids Run the Bases

• The chance to be entered in members-only drawings, with prizes including being an honorary Bat Kid or Junior PA announcer, or even the chance to throw out a first pitch!

• An email newsletter sent out at least twice per month updating members on the fun events coming up at the ballpark

In 2012, membership reached almost 600 members, tripling the amount of members from the previous year (200 in 2011).

Silver Sluggers

Over 750 Ports fans 55 years and older were a part of the ever-popular Silver Sluggers program in 2012. The club, sponsored by SCAN Health Plan, offered members all of the following with a basic ($15) or premium ($25) membership:

• Free admission to all nine Wednesday Ports home games

• An exclusive Silver Sluggers hat

• Membership card

• Attendance incentives

• The opportunity to watch batting practice before every Wednesday game

• A members-only meet-and-greet with Ports players

National Anthem

For the second straight year, the Ports hosted National Anthem auditions in the community, rather than at Banner Island Ballpark. On February 29, local singers joined the Ports at Lincoln Center to vie for a chance to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at a Ports game. The Ports were pleased to select the Stockton community’s best to sing at each of their 2012 home games.

Junior Ports

In an effort to stay connected with local little leagues, the Ports offer an opportunity for teams to accompany Ports players on the field during the national anthem. This program not only gives kids the opportunity to hang out with their favorite Ports players, but also the chance to see what it would be like to be one of them someday.

The Stockton Ports make many appearances in the community in the off-season as well as during the season. Since January 2012, the Ports mascot, Splash, has made more than 50 appearances, ranging from visiting local schools to attending little league opening ceremonies.

Once the season begins, local organizations look forward to receiving visits from Ports players. In 2012, the Ports made over 25 appearances in the community and at events hosted in the ballpark. Some of the in-park appearances included Youth Baseball Camps, autograph signings, the Women’s Clinic, Root Beer Float Day, and the Challenger Little League game. The Ports players have also made numerous school appearances and have spoken at many events and functions.

Pancakes with the Ports

On Saturday, April 14, the Ports hosted their first annual Pancakes with the Ports event. Martha’s All Natural sponsored this Anchor Fund event by donating trays full of pancakes, sausages and ham. For a $5 donation, fans received an all-you-can-eat breakfast with the entire 2012 Stockton Ports roster.

The event took place under the orange and blue umbrellas in the newly-named Express Transmissions BBQ Pit Stop. Players were available for autographs and pictures throughout the entire event. With help from Martha’s All Natural and the Stockton community, the breakfast raised almost $700.

Education Days

On May 10 and 22, the Ports hosted their annual Education Days, which combine the fun of a baseball game with the academic value of a field trip. Educational events and activities occurred before and during the game. Before they visited the ballpark, all attending schools had the option to use a supplied integrated curriculum as a preview to the day's events. For $6, students and teachers received a Ports ticket and lunch, as well as a special pre-game Q&A session with some of the Ports players.

Alumni Picnic

On May 12, Ports alumni stopped by Banner Island Ballpark for a pregame picnic, with all proceeds benefitting the Anchor Fund. After the picnic, the alumni signed autographs for fans. Alumni in attendance included GJ Raymundo (’02-’03), Dion James (‘81, ‘96), La Vel Freeman (‘84-’85), Tom Munoz (’55-’56), Sam Hitcher (’55), Leon Brown (’67-’70), Vic Solari (’51), Ray Youngdahl (’59), Keith Salisbury (’55), and former manager Tim Ireland.

Challenger Little League Game

The Ports hosted the second annual Challenger Little League Game at Banner Island Ballpark on May 24, 2012. Two teams competed in a friendly game of softball with help from the Ports players and front office staff. Not only was this a great event for the children, but the families enjoyed the event as well.

Root Beer Float Day

The Stockton Ports held their 7th annual Root Beer Float Day on Sunday, June 3. Midtown Optometry was the presenting sponsor of the event. The root beer and ice cream were graciously donated by Sunnyside Farms and Super Store Industries. All money raised from the event benefitted the Anchor Fund. For the first time in many years, all 500 mugs were sold out! Once fans purchased their mug for $6, they could return to the scooping stations for as many root beer floats as they could handle. Prior to the Ports game, players helped scoop ice cream and pour root beer for fans. The event raised close to $3,000.

Youth Baseball Camps

On June 15-16 and July 21-22, local youth had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn baseball fundamentals from Ports players. Boys and girls of all skill levels were eligible to participate. Campers received two days of instruction from Ports players, lunch each day of camp, a ticket to a Ports game, and on-field recognition at the game.

Women’s Clinic

On August 11, the Ports hosted their first Women's Clinic. During this event, some of the Ports' finest female fans had the chance to tour the ballpark and Ports Clubhouse, learn about baseball rules and statistics, practice drills on the field, participate in a Q&A session with Ports players and coaches, get autographs and take pictures with the Ports, and eat lunch in the Club.

Fish with a Port

On August 13, Ports fans had the unique experience to fish alongside a Stockton Ports player and a BASS Pro Fisherman for a day. Upon returning to the stadium, prizes were awarded to the largest catch, and a lunch and raffle was also included. All $450 in proceeds raised went towards the Anchor Fund.

Pink Night

The Stockton Ports held their sixth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night on August 17 at Banner Island Ballpark. All proceeds from the night benefitted St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Breast Health Services.

Prior to the game against the San Jose Giants, the Ports hosted the third annual “Bombs 4 Bombs Home-Run-a-thon.” The roster for the event included Ports manager Webster Garrison, hitting coach Brian McArn, athletic trainer Nate Brooks, strength coach Chris Borgard, clubhouse manager Vic Zapien, Stockton Thunder play-by-play announcer Mike Benton, Ports front office staff, Mega 100 morning show host Christie James, Eddie Maria from the Stockton Fire Auxiliary, COO of St. Joseph’s Medical Center Mike Ricks, former San Francisco Giant Patrick Dobson, and the coaching staff from San Jose.

Not only did $1 from every ticket sold that night go to St. Joseph’s, but the Ports had a number of events going on throughout the ballpark to help raise as much money as possible, including an auction of the pink jerseys the players wore that night. The Ports were pleased to donate $6,500 to St. Joseph’s.

Splash’s Birthday Party

The Ports’ mascot Splash celebrated his 7th birthday on August 19, 2012 at Banner Island Ballpark. All of his mascot friends were invited out for a pre-game kickball game, and all kids in attendance were invited to shag balls in the outfield. About 15 mascots attended the event.

Fan Appreciation Day

On September 2, the Ports hosted Fan Appreciation Day. Before the game, fans were allowed onto the field for a special autograph session with the players. In a pregame ceremony, President Pat Filippone presented the following awards:

Dallas Braden Community Award

The Dallas Braden Community Award was presented to Ports pitcher and Florida native Josh Bowman during a pre-game ceremony on September 2. Bowman was a leader in the community since his time with the Ports began in April 2012. Bowman accumulated approximately 15 hours of community service throughout the entire 2012 season, participating in sponsor appearances, Education Day, the Challenger Little League game, Fish with a Port, Pink Night, and other events involving the Stockton community.

The Dallas Braden Community Award is named after former Ports pitcher Dallas Braden, who is known for his strong community efforts for his hometown of Stockton. This award honors the community efforts of a Ports player each season.

Contact Community Relations

The Stockton Ports are happy to continue their support of the San Joaquin County’s fundraising efforts. Our organization makes contributions to non-profit organizations that are located within a 30-mile area of Stockton, CA. We feel we can be most beneficial in the community by keeping our charitable donations close to home. If you are located outside our area, we appreciate your interest in the Ports and regret that we will be unable to fulfill your request. Our policy is to donate once to each non-profit organization per season. If your organization feels that our donation was valuable, we can continue working with you annually by providing an opportunity for you to do business with us as well as contributing to your cause.

Some ways that you can partner with us are:

All requests must be in writing and include the following:

1) A self-addressed, stamped envelope 2) Organization's full name, address, phone number, and nonprofit tax ID number 3) A brief description of the event, when, and where it is 4) Who the event benefits 5) All contact information for the person who is soliciting for the event

Due to the large number of requests that we receive each week, it is greatly appreciated if requests are

submitted at least 30 days in advance of the event. Any donation requests made within this time will be considered, but not guaranteed. Accepted donation requests are usually mailed out between one and two weeks upon receiving a request. Only organizations within San Joaquin County and the surrounding area will be considered. We are community-minded and feel we can do the most by building and supporting our local communities.
