Today’s high definition digital cameras are wonderful for capturing every detail of your wedding day. Yet the details you don’t want them to see are enlarged pores, skin flaws, sun-spots, and acne scars. To solve these issues and create perfect wedding day skin, modern brides are turning to airbrush make-up to create a flawless, natural look which will stay put through sweat, tears, and the emotions of their day.

Airbrush make-up is the best options for brides who want flawless skin without the heavy make-up feel, yet it’s important to understand the difference between silicone and water-based formulas as these foundations will give you vastly different coverage and experience.

Silicone based airbrush make-up has received a poor review by brides because the for-mula clogs pores, causes break-outs and gives a plastic mask-like appearance which can shift or crack, surely not what you want on wedding day. This is much different from the water-based airbrush formula I use which sits on the surface of the skin like a second skin and feels so light you’ll hardly know it’s on. The water-based formula is paraben free and non-comedogenic which means having flawless skin on wedding day won’t cause a break out the morning after.

During your consultation, a custom blend of foundation is created just for you, and then the ultra fine mega-pixels of foundation is sprayed flawlessly on your skin to get the cov-erage you want. Coverage ranges from light to full even covering scars, birthmarks, and tattoos. I really encourage my clients to bring photos and offer feedback about their make-up so that we can adjust it to their liking.

For brides who think full coverage will look like a mask, the opposite is actually true with the water based foundation. The make-up feels so light you won’t even know you’re wearing it, looks 100% natural, doesn’t go anywhere, won’t rub off on clothing, doesn’t clog pores, and won’t cause break-outs. This make-up is simple to touch up with a light dusting of powder, and washes off easily with your favorite face wash leaving no film or residue. In the end you should feel gorgeous, completely comfortable with your make-up application and have flawless skin in your wedding photos.

Whether you’re dreaming of a rustic vintage wedding, a formal elegant event, or a down home country theme, use these simple tips to help create a cohesive and unique event design for your big day.

1) Choose a venue that reflects your style. You may want to allow more money in your budget here as selecting a venue to match your “wedding look” can enhance the theme of your event and even save thousands on additional floral & decorations later on.

2) Choose a caterer who compliments your wedding theme. A caterer who specializes in outdoor bar-b-q goes a long way in adding the right touch to a “home styled country wedding”, just as choosing a local organic caterer will add a nice touch for the couple who want to create an eco-friendly wedding.

3) Enhance with music. Couples can easily add another layer of uniqueness to their wedding theme by choosing musicians and DJ’s that reflect their genre of music. Having a formal wedding? Add a classical musician to your ceremony line-up. For the “down home country” event, consider adding a local bluegrass band at the end of your evening to kick things up a notch. One important note is to not underestimate the im-portance of a good MC. I have found that nothing compares to a great DJ when it comes to guiding you & your guests through the highlights of your day.

4) Use your wedding invitation to set the feel for your event. From your paper choice to colors and font styles, a well thought out invitations will give your guests a good idea for how formal or informal your wedding will be. A good designer can help you create an invitation to reflect and enhance your day.

5) Add flare with specialty rentals. Beautiful linen and specialty rental items go a long way in creating a reception that will “take your breath away”. From chandeliers and linens, to tabletop décor, most of these additions can be easily rented for the day. Joy of Life Events which specializes in event design has thousands of linen rentals & décor items available to create the wedding design of your dreams.

6) Use floral to reflect your style. From simple mason jars with wild flowers for the “country style” event, to opulent floral creations for the more formal wedding, your floral selections can easily bring your wedding day vision together.

7) Capture it all. The photographer you choose will capture all the details of your special day for a lifetime. Be sure to select a professional wedding photographer who you’re comfortable with and who also reflects your photo style preference, this will ensure you have images that capture all the elements of your day forever.

8) Last but not least: don’t forget the wedding planner! A good planner will guide you through the wedding decision process, assist with contract negotiations, give you insider tips, be on hand to assist with set-up, and coordinate all your vendors during your wedding day. This will allow you to enjoy your time with family and friends, and truly experience your wedding from start to finish!

For most couples, their wedding is the most lavish, detailed, and expensive event they’ll ever host. With so much time and money going into planning the intricacies of the day, It’s easy to get overwhelmed with knowing where to splurge and where to save.

While all the pretty details will be there for you to see and savor on your actual day, long after your cake is eaten, your flowers wilted, and your dress boxed away, the only lasting investment to have and hold will be your wedding photographs.

In today’s digital era where just about everyone has a fancy camera, there are some important factors to keep in mind when trusting someone to capture the intimate moments of your special day. Over the years, I’ve heard countless stories of brides who decide to have a friend or family member with a “good camera” take their photos, only to have with deep regret because they end up with no beautiful images of the most important day of their life. Unfortunately, after your wedding is over, it’s impossible to go back and re-create those emotion filled moments. You get only one chance to capture them forever.

It’s important to know that a professional wedding photographer isn’t just using a good camera, they’re skillfully creating pieces of art by controlling the light and feel of each image. This means by adjusting camera settings and controlling light, a photograph can look airy and fresh, or emotional and intoxicating. A true professional will know the flow of your wedding day, work seamlessly with other vendors, and allow your day to unfold naturally rather than being the center of attention.

Capturing Your Dayby Melanie Soleil

Although it’s important to work within a budget structure, wedding photography is the one area where price should never be the deciding factor. If you think you’ll be saving $1000 by hiring a less than qualified photographer, yet in the end you don’t LOVE any of your images- or worse, you don’t love your experience, then the whole investment is wasted. By simply negotiating other areas of your wedding budget, you can still have the beautiful images you want. No one will notice a bouquet with a few less flowers, or a less expensive tabletop arrangement, yet your photographer will be able to make even the simplest floral arrangements or details look amazing on film.

When it comes time to finding your photographer, ensure they will:* Be someone that you’re comfortable with! Your photographer will be with you through the most exciting and emotion filled day of your life, it’s important that you trust and like this person!

* Carry full sets of back-up and lighting equipment and be prepared for any circumstance- a professional can create gorgeous images in sun, rain, or snow.

* Know and work flawlessly with your other wedding vendors.

* Meet with you before the wedding, work with a detailed contract, and ensure your timeline is in order.

* Anticipate events and moments. They will know the flow of your day and capture it with ease.

* Allow you to be center stage and for your day to unfold naturally.

* Create consistent, beautiful images which reflect the true emotion of your event.

* Ensure you feel beautiful. Even if you dislike being in front of the camera, the experience should feel natural and fun.

By investing more on hiring a wedding specialist, you will insure not only an indulgent wedding day experience, but also a beautiful collection of images that truly capture the love, emotions and details of your day. In the end, there’s immense value in splurging on the only wedding item which will last the test of time (besides your rings of course).

Venue Highlight

Nevada County has become a top destination wedding location for savvy Northern California brides and grooms. The area, rich in Gold Rush history, showcases the beauty of all four seasons; and is an easy drive from San Francisco and Sacramento International Airports.

With its various elevations, Nevada County offers sights with very distinct characteristics. At the higher elevations in Truckee and Donor Lake there are magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountains with towering pines, clear lakes, and streams.

What’s Hot NowReception Trends in 2012

Just like skinny jeans made a comeback, wedding trends are something that come and go with the seasons. After catering hundreds of weddings over the past 11 years, we’ve seen just about every trend move through the wedding industry, and these are some of the current reception trends we’re seeing in 2012:

1) Appetizer & small bite weddings. These non traditional dinners are ultra popular and a wonderful way to get your guests up and mingling during the reception. This type of dining is perfect for beautiful reception locations where your guests can enjoy the surroundings without being stuck at a table. It creates a social, relaxed, modern atmosphere and although guests are not “formally seated”, we can still accomplish a full meal with various food stations, cocktail tables, and wandering servers.

2) Dessert Bites & Bars. This year we’re seeing more brides steer away from traditional wedding cakes in favor of personalized desserts which reflect their style and delight their guests. This is a continuing trend, as brides break free from the restraints of the “traditional” receptions into more personal and meaningful events. Everything from mini cake-pops, composed mini desserts, ice cream bars, mini pies, and ice cream Sunday stations have made big hits in replacing the typical wedding cake. These desserts can be as elegant or casual as you desire and are truly limited only by your imagination.

3) Local-Green-Savvy. Just as most of us have been more conscious of what we put in our bodies, more and more brides want to know exactly where their food is coming from. Don’t be afraid to ask your caterer where your meats and produce are coming from, or to request that they get food from a specific source.

By Emily Scott

Fo o D

Page 19: 2012 Sierra Wedding Guide

4) Big bold colors and themes. As more brides branch out into bold color choices and themes, this is an excellent opportunity to compliment your theme through menu selection. Your elegant vineyard wedding can be complimented with meat and wine pairings, the “fiesta” paired with a bold Latin menu, the “down home” country wedding is perfectly complimented with delicious BBQ.

More than anything, we see that today’s bride is writing her own rules to create an event that’s truly reflective of her personality and style.

More than a Playlist What to expect from your MC Although your friend with his great IPOD playlist, and your fiancé’s uncle Joe who played in a band during college probably know something about music, the fact is that they’re not the ones to trust with your wedding day music and MC needs. When it comes to keeping your wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, toasts and entire reception timeline running smoothly without any “dead air”, there’s a lot more to the equation than simply running a playlist of your favorite songs.

On occasion couples consider going with a friend or inexperienced DJ not understanding the behind-the-scenes details which truly make or break the ambiance of their day.

Here’s a checklist of very important and often looked over details you should expect from your professional DJ/ Master of Ceremonies/sound person. Be sure to ask whomever you interview for this important job if they will:

R Provide separate professional sound system for ceremony. You’ll need it for your processional and recessional music.

R Provide a wireless microphone for your officiant. (your guests came all that way to see you, shouldn’t they hear your vows as well?)

R Provide wireless mics for your toasts (would hate for uncle Pat to trip over a cord, or worse have your guests be unable to hear your toasts.)

R Meet with you before hand to assist with timeline planning and music selection

R Make sure your itinerary and song choices are planned out and adhered to.

R Keep your reception moving and ensure your guests are informed as to: when the bridal party is announced, cocktail hour is served, dinner is served, who is doing the toasts, announcing the first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances, cake cutting, etc.

by Greg Whatley

Page 21: 2012 Sierra Wedding Guide

Also, for couples without a wedding coordinator or day-of manager, your professional DJ/MC should be responsible for keeping all the other vendors informed of the schedule to ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible.

Remember, this is your special day. Find someone who will honor that and make your wedding experience joyous and FUN!

Selecting The Perfect Ring

J e w e L r y

When it comes to selecting the perfect ring, asking yourself these three questions will help you along your way.

What’s my style?Begin by narrowing your choices to what style of jewelry you prefer. If you prefer antique looks, Vintage styles available with ornately etched bands, or pave′ set diamonds will be perfect for you. These rings tend to be white gold or platinum and highlight diamonds nicely. More Contemporary styles often include variations of gold, yellow, white, and rose, often used together. The combination of colored stones with diamonds is common for this style and there is always a creative twist. Traditional rings would include the three-stone design with a larger center diamond and two smaller side stones, or a solitaire, plain style band with a single large stone. If you have something in mind you can’t find or just prefer a truly one-of-a-kind look, custom design your ring from scratch, or use existing stones (like grandma’s) to begin the creation process. Anything is possible once you define what you want – then find a jeweler who will help you fit your style into your budget.

What’s my budget? Be reasonable about the price of fine jewelry. There are a few ways to adjust your ring price: diamond size and diamond quality. A good jeweler would never sell you a diamond that had visible inclusions unless you asked for one to save money. This isn’t necessarily true with the internet and is a common way people get scammed buying jewelry online. Always use a reputable jeweler you trust and look at the jewelry in person before purchasing. The last way to adjust your ring price is to look at different metals, gold versus platinum, and for men’s bands tunksten is a great alternative and much more affordable than gold.

What’s my timeline? Most reputable jewelers offer layaway. Spreading the payments out helps make any purchase more affordable, however it does require you to plan ahead. If you’re creating a custom piece, then starting early will ensure your rings are ready for your big day.
