2012 Varsity Season Game by Game Scoring Review
8/25/2012 River vs North Olmsted (6-2) [1-0-0]
RR 1st Bennett fought for the ball 40 yards out, won it and blew past that defense and shot bottom left on the keeper. RR 2nd Bennett stole the ball 45 yards out and passed to Elinsky who received the pass behind the defense and beat the keeper. RR 3rd Schneider played a throw-in to Elinsky who tapped it over to Hamker at the top of the PA where she shot over the keeper for the goal. RR 4th Klodnick throw-in to Krebs who heads the ball to Bennett who crosses to Elinsky for the tap in goal. NO 1st North Olmsted scores on a free kick taken from the half line when nobody on the defense runs with the North Olmsted players. NO 2nd North Olmsted shot off post bounces out and won back by N.O. player that crosses past the River defense and N.O. player punched it in. RR 5th Bennett stole the ball near the center line and dribble past the defense and slipped a pass to Elinsky who tapped it in for the goal. RR 6th Bennett played the ball to Klodnick at the half line and Klodnick sent it back to Bennett who beat the defense and dribbled around their keeper
8/27/2012 River vs Avon Lake (2-1) [2-0-0]
RR 1st Eva Schneider played a through-ball to Jill Krebs who streaked down the left side and beat the Avon Lake keeper. RR 2nd Abby Elinsky scored a head ball goal off of Hallie McCue's corner kick. AL 1st Avon Lake's freshman Catie Corrigan took a ball to the right elbow of the PA and left footed arced a goal over River's Sara Connelly.
8/29/2012 River vs Vermilion (8-1) [3-0-0]
RR 1st Bennett dribbled to the right corner of the goal and crossed to the opposite corner where Elinsky put a simple touch in for the goal. RR 2nd Elinsky slammed in a goal off of a head ball clear by the Vermilion defender from a River shot. RR 3rd McCue in her typical fashion carried the ball down the right side and made a cross from the corner where Krebs touched it in for the goal. RR 4th Bennett crossed the ball to Elinsky who kicked it up and off the crossbar and Klodnick came in to clean it up for the goal. RR 5th Hamker passed the ball forward to Bennett who flicked onward to Klodnick who beat the last defender and scored for the goal. RR 6th Bennett crossed the ball across the face of the goal to Moore who touched it in for the goal. VM 1st Starting from a corner kick that was cleared back to the kicker who shot it over GK Connelly and under the crossbar for the goal. RR 7th Bennett assisted again with another cross to Schneider for scored for the goal. RR 8th Killeen took a shot from right elbow of the PA that the Vermilion goal keeper couldn't clear over her head for the goal.
9/5/2012 River vs Midview (6-0) [4-0-0] RR 1st Off a through-ball from Elinsky, Bennett dribble to the goal and around the keeper for the 1st goal of the game. RR 2nd Eva Schneider got a deflected ball of a defender and dribbled past two defenders and scored her goal form 18 yards out in the side net. RR 3rd Bennett headed a ball of the defender and keeper's hands from a Klodnick throw-in. RR 4th Elinsky scored on a two touch pass from Moore along the side who received a pass from Fahrenkopf with under 32 seconds left in 1st half. RR 5th Bennett beats the keeper bottom left after Elinsky heads her the ball from the keeper's goal kick. RR 6th Elinsky scores the PK after being taken down in the box.
9/8/2012 River vs St Joseph (4-0) [5-0-0] RR 1st Elinsky crossed the ball from the top right of the PA to a wide open McCue in front of the goal who put it in with a simple one touch RR 2nd Bennett sent a through ball down to Krebs who played a nice cross back to the middle to an unmarked McCue who scored from the center. RR 3rd Klodnick played the ball from the midline to Schneider about 30 yards out who one touched to a streaking Elinsky for the two touch goal. RR 4th McCue took the corner kick that Elinsky put away into the back of the net with a knee kick.
9/10/2012 River vs Holy Name (2-1) [5-1-0] HN 1st Holy Name player, Krause, found a loose ball in the box, made one move and drilled it side netting past River keeper Connelly. RR 1st On a throw-in from Klodnick, McCue head flicked the ball backwards into the Holy Name defender that deflected into the goal. HN 2nd Holy Name player, Dreher, scored a PK in bottom left corner past GK Connelly.
9/12/2012 River vs Avon (1-0) [6-1-0, 3-0-0 WSC] RR 1st McCue's corner kick dropped into the center of the goal box and was deflected into the goal by Avon's #4
9/17/2012 River vs Beaumont (4-1) [7-1-0, 3-0-0 WSC] RR 1st Bennett scored on assist from Schneider BM 1st 35 yard free kick shot high and down the middle over goalie Sara Connelly RR 2nd Elinsky with PK goal following a Beaumont handball in the box RR 3rd Klodnick forced an assist into Hamker who placed the ball bottom left past the keeper. RR 4th Bennett with a tough wide angle shot over the keeper from a McCue pass down the line.
9/19/2012 River vs North Ridgeville (5-0) [8-1-0, 4-0-0 WSC]
RR 1st Elinsky heads the ball in off of a Klodnick throw-in. RR 2nd McCue long free kick that Killeen flicks that Bennett chips over the keeper. RR 3rd Bennett finds the ball and dribbles past the defense down the right side and crosses to Elinsky for the one touch goal. RR 4th Elinsky scores off the deflected shot by Krebs. RR 5th On a short corner, Krebs passes to McCue who places it over the keeper.
9/22/2012 River vs Lake Catholic (5-1) [9-1-0, 4-0-0 WSC] RR 1st Elinsky heads the ball into the goal off of a Krebs cross made near the left corner flag. RR 2nd Klodnick's thrown-in was headed back by a Lake Catholic defender to Krebs who headed it into the goal RR 3rd Bennett took the ball to the end line and sliced it back to the top of the goal box where Krebs two-touched it into the net. RR 4th McCue grabbed the ball on the side, made one move and kicked the long shot that the Lake Catholic defender deflected but not away LC 1st Throw-in by River gets deflected to the LC player and nobody steps up as she shoots from 23 yards out over Connelly for the goal RR 5th Moore one touched the loose ball in front of the goal that was deflected by the LC player and put it over the LC keeper's reach

9/26/2012 River vs Elyria Catholic (8-0) [10-1-0, 5-0-0 WSC]
RR 1st Krebs kicks the ball in at the back post on a head ball pass from Elinsky off of a Klodnick throw-in. RR 2nd From a short corner, McCue took the Krebs pass and kicked from the elbow of the PA, the ball struck the far post and in for the goal. RR 3rd Krebs received a pass from Schneider and from the elbow of the PA buried the ball over the keeper to the far post for the goal. RR 4th Krebs centered the ball from the left side where Elinsky headed the ball forward to Bennett who beat the keeper for the goal. RR 5th McCue with the corner kick that Elinsky reach around the defender to kick-in for the goal RR 6th Schneider's through-ball to Elinsky gets slightly deflected by the EC defender but Elinsky is there to make it count. RR 7th Bennett scores when Schneider's pass gets a slight touch by Killeen and makes it way directly to Bennett for the goal. RR 8th Elinsky scores off a McCue cross from the corner that the EC goalkeeper wasn't able to handle
9/29/2012 River vs Oregon Clay (1-0) [11-1-0, 5-0-0 WSC] RR 1st A ball dropped back to Soltes at the midline who popped it up to Elinsky that flicked it over to Bennett who beat the defense and goalie.
10/1/2012 River vs Chagrin Falls (5-1) [12-1-0, 5-0-0 WSC]
RR 1st Hamker crossed the ball to the opposite to McCue who crossed a laser to the goal that Bennett headed in past the keeper. RR 2nd Killeen sent a ball to Bennett who easily beat the keeper. RR 3rd Klodnick down to McCue for another laser cross that Elinsky put in. RR 4th Klodnick headed in McCue's corner kick. RR 5th Elinsky using brute force dribbled through the Chagrin Falls defense to score. CF 1st Chagrin Falls scored off a corner kick beating Lekstutis for the goal.
10/3/2012 River vs Lakewood (7-0) [13-1-0, 6-0-0 WSC] RR 1st McCue kicked the ball on the corner kick to the middle that Klodnick volleyed over the keeper for the goal RR 2nd Elinsky swung her pass out wide to an open McCue who put the ball into the opposite side netting from near the top of the PA RR 3rd Klodnick headed the Lakewood goal kick back towards the Lakewood goal that Bennett picked up quickly and put it past their keeper. RR 4th Bennett dribbled around 3 Lakewood defenders before shooting the ball past their keeper RR 5th Schneider sends a through ball to Elinsky who moves right before putting it in for the goal RR 6th Krebs steals the ball off of a Lakewood defender and dribble through 4 more to score the goal RR 7th Elinsky scores with a 25 yard shot that the keeper mishandles.
10/10/2012 River vs Bay (0-2) [13-2-0, 6-1-0 WSC]
BAY 1st From the midfield, Bay sends the ball over the top that Alex Brown of Bay gets to and beats everyone and makes a side move for goal. BAY 2nd Following a River goal kick, the ball gets to Alex Brown who crosses it to her teammate unguarded on the back post.
10/13/2012 River vs Magnificat (1-0) [14-2-0, 6-1-0 WSC]
RR 1st Connelly's punt goes straight to Elinsky's head who puts it over the defense for Bennett to run onto and beats the Mags keeper.
10/17/2012 River vs Keystone (8-0) [15-2-0, 6-1-0 WSC] - SECTIONAL FINAL
RR 1st Krebs with the corner kick that Elinsky runs in and volley kicks for the goal RR 2nd Soltes shot gets deflected by Keystone keeper that Moore is there to clean-up RR 3rd Klodnick passes to Krebs who crosses the ball to Bennett who fights past the Keystone the defender and slips the ball past the keeper RR 4th Klodnick passes ahead to Moore who crosses to Bennett who does a jump volley shot into the back of the net RR 5th Bennett dribbles ahead and shots but keeper deflects it to Moore who cleans up for the goal RR 6th Keystone couldn't clear Bennett's shot after 3 tries and the 3rd try was kicked into Moore and straight into the goal RR 7th Ittu sent a through ball ahead to Bennett that Bennett bounced around before putting it past the keeper for the goal RR 8th Auzenbergs shots from 20+ yards out and Keystone keep mishandles the ball as it rolls into the net
10/22/2012 River vs Padua (4-2) [16-2-0, 6-1-0 WSC] - DISTRICT SEMI-FINAL
PAD 1st PK scored by Padua's Giel after the attacking Padua player got around Fahrenkopf and was taken down in the box by Soltes RR 1st Bennett sends the ball to McCue who goes wide and then crosses to Elinsky's head for the header goal RR 2nd Killeen pushed Bennett's pass out to a wide open McCue who sent the ball in past the keeper RR 3rd Fahrenkopf put a ball down the right side that Krebs reached and crossed that Bennett volleyed in for the goal RR 4th Elinsky scored the PK following Bennett being tripped in the box and the PK indicated PAD 2nd PK scored by Padua's Viehbeck after a handball in the box was called on Schneider with 2 seconds left.
10/25/2012 River vs Holy Name (3-2, 2OT) [17-2-0, 6-1-0 WSC] - DISTRICT FINAL RR 1st Elinsky sent a diagonal ball to McCue in the corner who sent a cross that Bennett fought for and pushed into the Holy Name goal HN 1st Kraus of Holy Name gets around the Tigue and goes 1v1 with Connelly and her shot gets knocked in by Fahrenkopf trying to clear it. RR 2nd Klodnick's thow-in drops at the feet of a Holy Name defender that Elinsky grabs and kicks the ball into the goal with a little HN assistance. HN 2nd Holy Name has a goal kick that goes all the way down field that Holy Name player takes to the end line and crosses to an unmarked player. RR 3rd Elinsky's golden goal header off of Krebs corner kick for the win and District Championship.
10/31/2012 River vs Walsh Jesuit (1-2) [17-3-0, 6-1-0 WSC] - REGIONAL SEMI-FINAL

History of Awards and Recognition John Honeyman (1924-2011) started the RRHS Boys Soccer program in 1968 and 20 years later helped start the Girls Soccer program. He was an boys assistant soccer coach for 17 years. The John Honeyman Award is presented to a senior who has demonstrated ability, leadership, sportsmanship and dedication.
Pat Burke started the RRHS Girls Soccer program in 1988 and coached for 13 years. He was named Coach of the Year by SWC and Greater Cleveland Coaches Association several times. His four children have all played soccer for RRHS. The Patrick Burke Award is presented to a player exemplifying a true commitment and love for the game of soccer.
