To ensure that all children, regardless of their background, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, a college education.

To make this happen, we: › Educate and empower parents, teachers, and community members to demand excellent public schools› Advocate for effective local, state and national education policies and investments› Ensure the policies and funding we advocate for reach classrooms and help students› Elect courageous leaders who will stand up for our priorities

We believe all children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Education is the key that unlocks the door to success. Far too many children, through no fault of their own, aren’t getting the education they need to make it in life. We are passionately committed to righting this wrong.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO OUR

› Electing 78 state-level and 15 district-level education champions› Passing 7 key pieces of legislation to improve public schools› Securing $2.9 billion in funding for public schools

In early 2013, we expanded into Oklahoma, our 11th state. We’re also expanding our Stand University for Parents program to reach more parents across our eleven affiliate states.

In New Orleans, four of our endorsed education champions won their seats on the Orleans Parish School Board. Additionally, we helped pass teacher tenure bill HB 974, which links performance to school personnel decisions such as tenure, compensation and reductions in force.

In Washington, our advocacy was instrumental in passing a legislative package (SB 5895, SB 5427) for meaningful teacher and principal performance evaluations. We helped elect 20 of our 24 endorsed candidates for state legislature and played a leading role in a successful initiative campaign (YES on 1240) to give students and parents the option of public charter schools.

We supported $530 million in funding increases for Denver and Aurora public schools. We also supported the passage of The READ Act (HB 1238), which focuses on the early identification of children with significant reading deficiencies and requires the creation of a customized, scientifically-based intervention plan called a “READ plan.”

Stand Indiana orchestrated the most extensive series of community conversations ever held in Indianapolis. During the What’s Possible? campaign, over 7,000 residents completed questionnaires on desired changes in Indianapolis School District and over 600 attended community meetings to share their thoughts with others. We also successfully campaigned for the election of three school board members.

Stand volunteers fought in favor of $10 million budget overrides in the Alhambra and Murphy districts. In Roosevelt, voters elected two of Stand’s endorsed school board candidates. We also recruited two candidates who now actively serve on the Murphy School Board. Additionally, Stand AZ helped pass teacher and principal effectiveness legislation (HB 2823) as well as legislation to ensure transparency and authorizer consistency for charter schools (SB 1424).

Stand for Children Leadership Center is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides leadership development and training to everyday citizens. Fundraising in the fourth quarter of 2011 was focused on securing contributions for 2012. These funds along with additional dollars raised from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations during 2012 funded activities. The launch of a new state affiliate in Louisiana, along with the strengthening of National Support Services teams, increased expenses over 2011 by $1.2 million (8%). The efforts to begin building an operating reserve resulted in a very strong cash position at year end.
