The list of recommended books are not just for the summer. They can be read all year round. For your convenience, we have categorized the books so you can pick your favorite genre. If you cannot find a particular book on the list, you could read any book by that author. For your convenience, all the Recommended Reading Lists can be found on the Summer Reading Webpage.

Lent, Blair Molasses Flood One warm January day a molasses tank in front of Charley's house explodes and the molasses carries his house from the Boston waterfront through the town.  

Longfellow, H.W. The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere (Bing, C. , i l lus.) An illustrated version of the narrative poem which describes Paul Revere's midnight ride in 1775 to warn the people of the Boston countryside of an impending attack by the British.

Dooley, Nora Everybody Cooks Rice A child is sent to find a younger brother at dinnertime and is introduced to a variety of cultures through encountering the many different ways rice is prepared at the different households visited.  

Gibbons, Gail Polar Bears Presents information about how polar bears swin and hunt, keep warm and dry, and the many other ways they adapt to their environment.  

Hall, Zoe The Apple Pie Tree Describes an apple tree as it grows leaves and flowers and then produces its fruit, while in its branches robins make a nest, lay eggs, and raise a family. Includes a recipe for apple pie.
