PRODUCT INSTALLATION GUIDERev: 01, Issue Date 04.01.2012

    GREEN TERRAMESH

Material DeliveryGreen Terramesh units are supplied pre-assembled at the

production facility. They are supplied in a collapsed form, foldedand bundled. The bundles are compressed and strapped together

at the factory for easy shipping and handling. Each bundle islabeled with a tag reporting the sizes of the units contained.

Lacing wire is supplied in coils, ring fasteners are shipped in

boxes, erosion control blankets are shipped in rolls and pre-formed steel brackets are shipped in a box.

AssemblyThe folded units shall be taken out from the bundle and placedon a hard at surface. Green Terramesh units shall be opened,

unfolded and pressed out to their original shape. When the units

are unfolded for assembly, they will have one or two shippingfolds. They can be removed by placing the fold over a board and

    walking along the sides.

Fastening ProcedureWhen using lacing wire, cut off a piece of wire approximately 1.5

times the length of the edge to be tied. Longer edges shall bejoined by several lengths of wire. Lacing wires shall be secured

around the selvedge wire or heavier edge wire, where present,

by looping and twisting the lacing wire around itself. Proceedtying with alternate double and single loops. Double loops shall

be made at intervals not greater than 6 in. (150 mm). The unitsshould be pulled tightly together during the tying operation. Pliers

may be used to create tight joints. The other end of the tie wire

shall be secured by again looping and twisting the wire arounditself. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the wire coating.

When steel ring fasteners are used, the use of either amechanical or a pneumatic fastening tool is required. Spacing of

the rings shall be in accordance with ASTM A975 Table 2, Panel

to Panel connection, Pull-Apart Resistance. In any case, ringfasteners spacing shall not exceed 6 in. (150 mm). Rings shall be

installed at the top and the bottom connections of the side andalong all edges.

The average maximum resistance of the fasteners from the eld

shall not be lower than 90% of the resistance provided in the

    certication.

Foundation PreparationThe foundation on which the Green Terramesh units are to beplaced shall be cut or lled and graded to the lines and grades

shown on the construction drawings. Surface irregularities, loosematerial, and vegetation shall be removed during the preparation

    of the foundation.

Installation and Soil CompactionAfter the foundation has been prepared, the pre-assembled GreenTerramesh units are placed in position empty, and shall be tied

or fastened to adjacent units along all edges in order to form acontinuously connected, monolithic structural unit.

Units shall be placed in position according to the required slope

angle. Factory attached triangles insures correct facia angle andspeed up the construction. Pre-form steel brackets shall be placed

and securely attached to the reinforcing steel wire in the anchor

panel and at the top of the welded panel. (Make a small cut to the

ECB if necessary). The erosion control blanket of each unit shall

overlap for 4 in. (100 mm) with the adjacent units blanket on theside in a manner to ensure that the vegetative soil behind will not

    be exposed at any time.

Care shall be taken when placing the soil to ensure that the PVCcoating is not damaged. After a layer of soil has been placed,

sufcient hand shovelling shall be performed to achieve a level

top surface before soil compaction is performed.Top soil is placed behind the facing about 18-24 in. (0.5-0.6 m)

thick. Soil compaction within 3 ft (1 m) of the face should be

carefully performed with a walk-behind compactor to prevent anyslope distortion or bulging of the facing unit.Place soil ll in approximately 8 in. (200 mm) lifts and compact

it to the required level. Mechanically stabilized earth structures

shall be made of a good quality, free draining, granular and/or selected ll. The recommended ll gradation is in the range

of 0.001-0.75 in. (0.02 mm to 19 mm), or as indicated in theproject specications. Soils outside of this range may be suitable,

providing they have been approved by a geotechnical engineer.

Compaction shall be performed to 95% of Standard Proctor, byuse of conventional compaction equipment.

The number of compaction and vegetative soil layers will beas such to achieve the required vertical spacing between the

Green Terramesh units, according to the project specications.

Once the compacted layers have achieved the top of the GreenTerramesh unit, the top end is folded and securely stapled to the

soil.Care shall be taken to ensure that all adjacent units (above,

underneath and sideways) will be connected along the face at the

contact edges. The top return portion of the last unit on top of the structure shall

be buried approximately 12 in. (300 mm) beneath the soil surface.Hydroseed or plant if needed; using a native species increases

the chance of survival. Irrigation may be necessary in drierclimates/seasons.
