FACULTYOver 90% hold Ph.D.s or the highest degree in their fields. Center for Learning Resources offers free tutoring for students seeking extra help with their studies.

RESIDENTIAL LIFEMaking you feel at home is a priority at UNH. Our on-campus hous-ing is available in eight residence halls. Residential Life staff mem-bers live in each hall and help promote an atmosphere conducive to study and social interaction among students. Residence Hall Councils, composed of students elected by their peers, plan social and recreational activities and serve as representatives for students living in each hall. RoyFinkwasnamedthe13thheadcoachin Charger men’s soccer history on June 1, 2012. For the previous four seasons, Fink was an assistant at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.Hisprimaryduties

for theMinutemen includedall aspects of playerdevelopment,recruiting, coordinating the soccer academy and day-to-dayoperations. During his tenure, the Minutemen won the 2008 Atlantic10ConferenceChampionshipandadvancedtotheNCAATournament. Thenativeof Israelbeganhis collegiate coaching careerathisalma mater, the University of Tampa, in 2004. After two seasons with the Spartans, Fink spent another two years as the Director ofCoachingatStrictlySoccerFutbolClubinSt.Petersburg,Fla.,wherehetrainedanddevelopedyoungsoccertalent.HiscoachingexperienceoutsideofthecollegiateranksincludesastintwiththeColoradoRapidsU-23teamasanassistantandthreeyearswiththeWesternUnitedFCinMassachusettsasatechnicaltrainer.

Asastudent-athlete,Finkenjoyedanoutstandingcareerat theUniversity of Tampa where he was the 2001 NSCAA Division II NationalPlayeroftheYearafterleadingtheSpartanstoanationalchampionship. A two-timeNSCAA All-America selection and aCoSIDAAcademicAll-Districthonoree,Finkranksthirdoverall incareergoalsatTampaandseventhall-timeinthehistoryoftheSunshineStateConference.Aftergraduating,healsospentthreeseasons in the Premier Development League (PDL) for the Cape CodCrusadersandBoulderRapids. PriortocomingtoAmerica,FinkservedthreeyearsintheIsraeliArmedForces,whereheattainedtherankofSergeant.HealsowasastarterforIsrael’sUnder-16/18NationalTeamandplayed150gamesintheIsraeliPremiershipandDivisionOneleagues.

A four-year NCAA tournament participant at Southern Connecticut State University, Marino Crocco joined the staff in NewHaven in2011as a graduate assistantcoach.

Also a foreign language teacher at Fair Haven School in New Haven, MarinograduatedfromSCSUin2011withaBachelorofArtsdegreeinItalianandSpanish.

Croccoalsohasadditionalcoachingexperience,whichhecontinuestoday,withtheEversonSoccerAcademyinWallingford,Conn.andasheadcoachoftheGuilfordU-15girlspremierteam.

As a student-athletewith theOwls, Croccowas a part of twoNortheast-10ConferenceChampionshipteams(2007,2008)andparticipatedintheNCAATournamentineachofhisfourseasons.

EnglandCollegeinHenniker,N.H.,BookercomestoNewHavenwithcoachingexperienceatanumberofdifferentlevels.Forthelasttwoseasons,hehasbeenonthesidelinesatNECasbothanassistantandagraduateassistant.Hisdutiesincludedrecruiting,retentionandacademics,practicesandin-gamecoaching.BookerhasalsoservedasacoachattheWhiteMountainSoccerAcademyin Warner, N.H. Booker earnedhisBachelor of Arts degree fromNewEnglandCollege inBusinessAdministration,whileearninghisMasterofScienceinSportandRecreationManagementfromhisalmamaterin2011.Asanundergraduate,hewasatwo-sportathleteforthePilgrims,playingsoccerandbasketball.

DrewEsposito joined theChargers’ staffin 2012 following a four-year career at Southern Connecticut State University. Esposito will work primarily with the New Haven goalkeepers.

Espositostarted59matchesingoalfortheOwlswith19shutoutstohiscredit.Asajunior,hemadeninesavestopostacleansheetagainstDominican in the2010NCAATournament FirstRound.Previouslyinhiscareer,hewasnamedtothe2008Northeast-10Conference All-Tournament Team.

Esposito, a2012SCSUgraduate, played scholastically at EastHaven High School.

The University of New Haven men’s soccer team will usher in a new era in 2012 with Roy Fink taking the helmasthe13thheadcoachinprogramhistory.Fink,a former Division II Player of the Year and NationalChampionasastudent-athlete,willleadacropof13returnersandninenewcomersastheChargerseyeaturnaroundseasonintheNortheast-10Conference.

ForwardsThe Chargers’ attack begins up front with three dy-namicfinishers–seniorsJosephD’AntonioandDaveLjungquistand juniorGuiDosSantos.D’AntonioandLjungquistsharedtheteamleadwithfourgoalsapiecelast fallandDosSantos,whotalliedfivegoals inhis2010 rookie season, added twomore scores duringhis sophomore campaign. Afeworki Solomon, a junior transfer from LouisburgCollege, couldmake an immediate impact as an of-fensivecatalystbothscoringanddistributingtheball.SophomoreAdelphitransferAndresTorresandfresh-man JP DiTommaso will also see time up front.

MidfieldThe NewHavenmidfield will be relied upon to bothjump-starttheoffenseandheadtheChargers’defen-sive pressure. Offensively, graduate student ClancyPurcellandfreshmanBobbyCruzwillruntheNewHa-venset.Purcelldoledoutapairofassistsinhisfirstseason with the Chargers last fall. Dos Santos will also spendtimeinthemidfield.

SeniorsJoelRodriguezandFirmianoRibeirowillbetheChargers’ first line of defense in themidfield. Rodri-guezstartedall14matchesinwhichhetookthepitchin2011,whileRibeiroappearedinall17contests,in-cluding16starts.The6-foot-3Ribeiro,whofoundthenetoncelastseason,willalsobeakeyfinisherinset-pieceandcorner-kickopportunities.

SpellingthestartersinthemiddlewillbeseniorDan-ielDragicevich,juniorEdwinCarvajalandnewcomersOgarAlgosaibiandCamSoltis.

BacksThreereturnersandapromisingnewcomerwillcom-prisetheNewHavenbackrowasseniorsAustinCole-manandJunniorTorresandsophomoreTimHinesarejoinedbyfreshmanOskarSewerin.

Hinesappearedin16matcheswith15startslastfallen route to a Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team selection, while Torres suited up for all 17matches and Cole-manstartedall14matchesinwhichheplayed.HinesandSewerin,bothstanding6-foot-3,willalsobecalleduponoffensivelytoelevateandscoreinthebox.

GoalkeepingFollowing the graduation losses of J.J. Cormeau ’12and JonathanCreem ’12, theChargers are short oncollegiateexperienceingoalthisseason,butthatfacthas not tempered Coach Fink’s expectations of hispairofnetminders.SeniorAnastasiosPetridiswillbein goal on Opening Day for New Haven with freshman JamesPyatskyalsoseeingsignificanttimeastheChar-gers’ stopper.

Petridis is entering his fourth season with the Blueand Gold, but has played only 12minutes betweenthe posts. The senior from Norwalk, Conn. took the pitch as a position player in 11 matches last season andscoredagoalatStonehillintheChargers’North-east-10 opener on Sept. 13.

PyatskycomestoWestHavenfromGardenCityHighSchool, where he was an all-conference keeper in his seniorseasonwiththeTrojans.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division IIconference thatwasestablishedin1979.TheNE-10consistsof16memberinstitutions that are located throughoutthe Northeast including Connecticut,Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York andVermont.

The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 are Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.),American InternationalCollege (Springfield,Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), FranklinPierceUniversity(Rindge,N.H.),LeMoyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), University of Massachusetts Lowell (Lowell, Mass.), MerrimackCollege (NorthAndover,Mass.),University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), CollegeofSaintRose(Albany,N.Y.),SouthernConnecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College(Easton, Mass.).

The 16member institutions are spreadgeographically from Syracuse, New York to Boston,MassachusettsandfromBurlington,VermonttoLongIsland,NewYork.Manyofthemembersare located inor around themetropolitanareasof Albany,Boston,NewHaven,Worcester,andNewYork.

TheConferencemostrecentlywelcomedtheUniversityofNewHavenin2008andAdelphiUniversity in2009, adding to thepowerfulunion of strong academic and athleticcollegesanduniversities.

The Northeast-10 has evolved into amembership committed to competitiveathletics programs that emphasize theeducationonandoffthefieldofitsmorethan5,500studentathletes.

Countedamongthemanyaccomplishmentsof our institutions are NCAA Division II National Championshipsinwomen’sbasketball,fieldhockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse,

men’s soccer,women’s track& field, andmen’sandwomen’sswimming&diving.

This past year, 47 teams representing the Northeast-10 saw their name on NCAA selection days as Division II nationalchampionshipfieldswereannounced. The47 teams represented fourteen differentinstitutions.

During the 2010-2011 academic year,twoNortheast-10 teams claimednationaltitles,asUMassLowellwonthefieldhockeychampionshipandAdelphiwonthewomen’slacrossenational crown. Indivudally,NewHaven’sShannonGagnewonfivenationaltitles at the indoor andoutdoor trackandfieldchampionshipmeets,Stonehill’sCoreyThomas was the national champion in the high jump, and Southern Connecticut’sAmandaThomastookhomethegoldmedalinthe200-yardindividualmedleyattheNCAASwimmingandDivingChampionships.

The Saint Rose women’s soccer team also claimed its first national championship in2011.

Fromthefieldofplaytotheclassroom,theNortheast-10honoredanumberofstudent-athletesfortheiracademicaccomplishments.Theconferencehonoredcloseto200student-athletesthroughouttheyearthatexcelledatahighlevelonthefieldandintheclassroomasmembersoftheacademicallconferenceteams.Additionally,2,917student-athletesrepresenting each of the sixteen schools earneda3.0GPAorhigherandwerenamedto the Commissioner’s Honor Roll last year.

Today’sNortheast-10Conference remainsfocused on complementing the academicintegrity and missions of the memberinstitutionswithacommitment toabroad-basedchampionshipprogram,asevidencedby the23 sports theConferenceoffers inchampionship play, the most of any Division II conference.

Achieved success that only few soccer players can claim, earningrecognitionbothonthecollegiateandprofessionallevels,bothregionallyandnationally.He transferred toNewHaven in1973andbecameaninstantcontributortotheteameventhoughhedidnotplaysoccerduringhisjuniorcollegedays.Hequicklyearnedareputationforbeinga“jackofalltrades”becauseheplayedeverypositiononthefieldwiththeexceptionofgoalkeeper.Inhisfirstyear,TaylorhelpedtheteamearnanECACplayoffspot,leadingtheteaminscoringwith33points.Forhiseffort,heearnedAll-NewEnglandhonors,accoladeshewouldalsoreceiveasasenior.Taylormadecontributionseachandeverygameduringhistwo-yearstay,scoring25goalsin26games.Hewontherespectofhisteammatesasillustratedbyhisbeingnamedtheteamcaptainandmostvaluableplayerin1974.Taylorlaterreceivedtheschool’sAthleteoftheYearawardforhissenior-yearefforts.AfterleavingUNH,Taylorplayedtwoyearsofprofessionalsoccer,onewiththeAmericanSoccerLeagueandonewiththeNorthAmericanSoccerLeague.HeearnedtheASL’sRookieoftheYearawardbeforemovingontotheNASLwherehemarkedsuchlegendsasPele.

For11yearsthenamesMachnikandChargerAthleticsweresynonymous.Hebeganhisillustriouscareerastheheadcoachofthemen’ssoccerteam,wherehefieldedsomenationalcaliberteamsover10seasons.In1970,hecoachedhisChargerstotheNAIAfinalsandtotheregionalsthenextseason.UNHthenqualifiedfortheprestigiousNCAARegionalsin1973and’74,theNCAAFinalsin1976andtheFinalFourin1977.NamedNewEnglandIntercollegiateSoccerLeague’sCoachoftheYeartwotimeshealsoservedasthehockeycoachforthreeseasons.“Dr.Joe”broughtthesame intensityandwill tosucceedtohispositionas thedepartment’sDirector of Athletics. In 1972, he was instrumental in elevating the athletic programbyseekingandgainingChargermembershipintheprestigiousandcompetitiveNCAA.Afewyearslater,in1975,healsointroducedthewomen’sathleticprogramandgavethefinalapprovalontheproposalwhichupgradedthefootballandlacrosseprogramsfromaclubtoavarsitysport.

John Kowalski, Assistant Coach/Back/Goalkeeper, (1969-72)Inducted 1988

Statistics do not justify the fine career output of Kowalski and hiscontributiontothesoccerprogram,bothasaplayerandasacoach.AstellarbackforCoachJoeMachnikduringhisfourseasons,hecontributedheavilytothe19shutoutspostedbytheteamashestoppedtheoppositionbeforethegoal.Johncouldalsobelookedtowhenaback-upkeeperwasneededandhefilled inadmirablywhencalledupon.Thefour-year letterwinnerwasathreetimeAll-NewEnglandselectionandwasakeypartofteamsthatparticipatedintheUniversity’sfirstECACandNCAAtournamentsinsoccer.ReturningtoUNHaftergraduating,heservedastheright-handmantoMachnikforfiveseasons,duringwhichUNHcompetedinfiveNCAAplayoffs,andtwoNCAAFinalFourChampionships.

Keith Russo, Back, (1980-84)Inducted 1990

Althoughhedidn’tputanypointsonthescoreboard,RussoplayedamajorroleinNewHaven’ssuccessbynotallowingtheoppositiontoscoreanygoals.Asadefensiveplayer,RussowasoneofthereasonsUNHwassosuccessfulintheearly1980s.HesuppliedtheChargerswithoutstandingdefenseand leadershipduringhiscareer.Russowasamemberof the1981defensewhichallowedonly10goalsin20games,arecordwhichstoodat his induction.Duringhis stay,UNHposteda56-15-7 record,includingaschoolrecord17winsin1983.Hisplayearnedhimagreat

dealofrecognition,highlightedbyAll-Americahonorsinboth1982and1983.RussowasalsonamedtotheAll-NewEnglandteaminthreeofhisfouryearsasaCharger.HeplayedontwoNCAAplayoffteamsduringhiscareer,advancingtotheRegionalFinalinbothseasons.

Rick Kessel, Goalkeeper, (1975-78)Inducted 1992

KesseldidmorethanjuststopshotsfortheUNHsoccerteam.Hewasa driving forcebehind theChargers’ advancement to the1976NCAAChampionshipGameand to the1977NCAASemifinals.Kesselpostedsevenshutoutsin1976,twomoreintheNCAAplayoffs,andthreeineachofhisfinaltwoseasons.Kessel’sleadershipandabilitytocomeupwithbigplaysoftenwhileplaying injuredwasamajorcontributing factor totheteam’ssuccessandtothedevelopmentofitsstrongfollowing.KesselhelpedtheChargersearnfourbidstotheNCAAtournamentandposta48-13-10recordduringhiscareer.Heregistered297savesinfourseasonswhichincludedacareer-high116stopsin1976.Heownedacareer1.05goalsagainstaverage,includingthreeseasonsinwhichheallowedlessthan one goal per game.

Don Wynschenk, Soccer & Tennis Coach/Admin., (1964-84)Inducted 1993

WynschenkplayedanimportantroleduringhisassociationwithUNH.Hecontributedtotheeducationprocessasateacher,atenniscoachandasDirectorofPhysicalEducationandIntramuralSports.WynschenktaughtamyriadofsubjectsduringhistenureandservedonmanyfacultycommitteeswhichhelpedbridgethegapbetweentheNorthandMaincampuses.HisintramuralprogramsencouragedstudentstocometotheNorthCampuseventhoughtheywerenotdirectlyinvolvedwithintercollegiateathletics.Wynschenkactedasaconsultant for thedesignof theNorthCampusAthletic Complex.He stressed the totality of being a student-athlete,emphasizing the importanceof academic successaswell as athleticachievement.Wynschenkreceivedtherespectandadmirationoffaculty,staffandstudentsthroughouthiscareer.

Dr. Delfim Pereira, Midfielder, (1967-68 & 1970-71)Inducted 1995

For four years,Pereira contributedmore thangoalsandassists to theChargers soccer program.Hewas a leader, a playerwho helped histeammates in any way necessary to win games. Pereira was team captain in1969and1970andwasamajorforceinpropellingUNHtoitsfirstevernationaltournamentappearance,theNAIAFinal8.Heplayedeverypositionduringhiscareer,includinggoalkeeper.Inhissophomoreyear,anAchillesinjurypreventedhimfromrunning,forcingPereiratothegoalmouthwherehewonhisfirstgameattheposition.Thenextgame,Pereirabrokehishandwhileinthegoalforcinghimoutofthelineup,butonlyforafewgamesforhereturnedlaterthatseason.HeearnedAll-NewEnglandhonorsasa juniorandseniorandwasnamedtotheNewEnglandIntercollegiateAll-StarTeamin1970.Pereirafinishedhiscareerwith18goalsand13assistswhichrankedamongthetoptenathisgraduation.

Neville Brown, Forward, (1970-73)Inducted 1996

BrownmadeamajorimpactontheChargersoccerteamineachofhisfourseasons.UNHwon44of66gamesandreceivedfourpost-seasonbidsduringhiscareer.Asafreshman,Brownledthesquadinscoringwith14goalsandnineassistsfor37points,atotalwhichalsorankedamongthenation’s scoring leaders.Hehelped theChargers to their first-everpost-seasontournamentastheteamfinishedseventhinthe1970NAIAplayoffs.HiscontributionsdidnotgounnoticedastheforwardwasplacedontheNewEnglandIntercollegiateSoccerLeague’sAll-Starteamaswell

DeborahChin,Associate Vice President, Director of Athletics and Recreation

Steven H. Kaplan, Ph.D., University PresidentSincebecoming president ofthe University of New Haven in 2004, Steven H. Kaplan, Ph.D.hasledtheUniversityofNewHaven througha periodof remarkable growth anddevelopment. In thepast fiveyears alone, enrollment has grownby34percent tomorethan 6,400 undergraduateand graduate students,who

hailfrom35statesandsome45countries.Full-timeundergraduateenrollmenthasgrownby59percentandapplicationshaveincreasedby176percent.Duringthistime,theUniversityhascompletedover$100millionin construction projects andhas launched15newacademicprograms.

UNH now ranks among the top comprehensive universitiesintheNorthandboastsnationallyrankedprograms in a number ofmajors across business,criminal justice, engineering, forensic science, andthe liberal arts and sciences. In recognition of hiscontributionstotransformingtheUniversity,Dr.Kaplanwasnamed “Businessmanof theYear”byBusinessNewHavenmagazinein2008.

PresidentKaplanalsowasawardedthe2011WilliamM.BurkePresidentialAwardforExperientialEducationby theNational Society for Experiential Education.Theaward recognizesPresidentKaplan’s efforts tomakeUNHanationalleaderinexperientialeducation,requiringeveryundergraduatestudenttocompleteaninternship,anacademicservicelearningexperience,international study or a faculty-mentored research

projectbeforegraduation.

Previously,Dr.KaplanwaschancellorandprofessorofEnglish at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, theonlyfour-yearbranchcampusoftheUniversityofVirginiaandoneofthenation’sbestpubliccolleges,accordingtoU.S.News&WorldReport.

Dr.Kaplanbeganhisteachingcareerin1982asanInstructor of English at theUniversity ofMaryland,EuropeanDivision. From1985-1989, he servedasVisitingLecturerinAmericanStudiesatEberhard-KarlsUniversität, Tübingen,Germany–oneof theoldestandmosthighlyregardeduniversitiesinEurope.Aftercompleting his doctoral studies at Eberhard-KarlsUniversität, he returned to theU.S. to teachEnglishattheUniversityofSouthernColorado.Withinthreeyears,hewasmadedepartmentchair,servinginthatcapacityfortwoyearsbeforebecomingDirectoroftheCenterforInternationalStudies.

Dr.KaplanalsoservedasdeanofArtsandHumanitiesatSUNYCollegeatBuffaloandasDeanoftheCollegeofLiberalArtsandSciencesatButlerUniversity.

In addition to earning his Ph.D. in ComparativeLiteratureat Eberhard-KarlsUniversität,Dr.KaplanholdsaMasterofArtsdegree(withaconcentrationinphilosophy,GermanandEnglish)fromEberhard-KarlsUniversität andaBachelor of Arts degree from theUniversity of California at Los Angeles.

Dr. Kaplan is the author of a book on AmericantranslationsofthepoetryofRainerMariaRilke;abookonTimO’Brien’sfiction,publishedbytheUniversityof

SouthCarolinaPress;andananthologyofinternationalwar stories, published by the University Press ofColorado.Healsohaswrittenanumberofscholarlyessays.

Dr.Kaplanandhiswife,AnemoneSchweizer-Kaplan,are both ardent opera buffs and love to ballroomdance,hikeanddownhillski.Theyshareagreatloveforthevisualandperformingartsandhavetraveledtomore than 30 countries during their 35 yearstogether,includingTanzania,wheretheyhikedupMt.Kilimanjaro.Theyhaveasonandthreedaughters.

Dr. Kaplan grew up in Chicago, the son of a shoe storeownerandanactress-comedienne.Hesaidhisstepfather,IrvingGlovin,taughthimtoloveideasandappreciate thecontributionsweallneed tomake togoodcauses. IrvGlovinwasagood friendofOskarSchindler,was instrumental in getting the story outin book and film form (hewas associate producerof thefilm),and isPresidentof theOskarSchindlerHumanitarianFoundation.Dr.KaplanalsoservesontheboardoftheFoundation.

Anemone Schweizer-Kaplan grew up in SouthwestGermany.SheholdstheequivalentofanAmericanM.A.inSecondaryEducationandtaughtataGermanhighschool.SheisaceramicsartistandtaughtGermanandpotteryasanadjunctfacultymemberinColoradoandVirginia.

Deborah Chin became theschool’s fourth Director of Athleticsin1993,andcurrentlyoverseesadepartmentwhichsponsors 16 NCAA Division II varsitysports.Shewaselectedto the prestigious position of Chair for the NCAA’s Division II Management Council for 2008 andwaspromotedtoAssociateVice President, Director of

AthleticsandRecreationin2010.

UNHAthletics has enjoyed a high level of successacrosstheboardduringChin’s tenureasDirectorofAthletics,advancingtoNCAAtournamentover50timesin17-plus years.UNHhas recentlymadeanumberof capital improvements toathletic and recreationalfacilities,includingtheconstructionofthemulti-milliondollarDavidA.BeckermanStudentRecreationCenter,a$1.3millionsyntheticturfrenovationofKayoField(soccerandlacrosse),aswellasinstallationofstate-of-the-artblueandgoldsyntheticturfatthenewRalphF.DellaCameraStadium.In2007,Chinspearheadedefforts to re-instate football as a varsity programand findUNHanewathletics conference that bestfits the institution’s long-termacademicandathleticaspirations. Both goals were accomplishedwhenUNHannouncedonNovember13,2007 that ithadbeenacceptedasa fullmember of theprestigiousNortheast-10 Conference, effective the 2008-09 academic year. After a five-yearhiatus, theChargerfootballteamreturnedtothegridironin2009,andhavesincewonback-to-backconferencechampionshipsandadvancedtotheNCAAQuarterfinals.

AmemberoftheUniversityofNewHavenstaffsince1975,ChinbeganherUNHcareerasCoordinatorofWomen’sAthletics.Shewas responsible for startingthe women’s intercollegiate athletic program at UNH, coachingvolleyball,tennis,basketballandsoftballintheearlyyears.Chineventuallysurrenderedallheadcoachingresponsibilities,exceptvolleyball,whenshewaspromotedtoAssociateDirectorofAthleticsin1979.

Amongher numeroushonors, Chinwasnamed theNACWAANCAADivisionIIAdministratoroftheYearin2009 after serving as the D-II Management Council Chair. In 2007, the Connecticut Sportswriters’ Alliance presentedChinwith theGoldKeyAward, thestate’stop sporting honor which recognizes significantcontributionstoathleticsintheStateofConnecticut.Chin won the NACDA/Continental Airlines Athletic Director of the Year for the Northeast Region in 1998-99andwasawarded theNACWAA Josten’sDistrictIAdministratorof theYearAward in1997.Chinwonthe National Association for Girls andWomen inSports Presidential Award inMarch1997andwasthe Connecticut Post Woman of the Year in 1993. Chinhasalsoearned theU.S.VolleyballAssociationMeritoriousServiceAwardand theYMCAWomen inLeadershipAward. In2010,shewashonoredasanElmCityLegend,aneventwhichrecognizesthegreaterNewHaven region’s best in sports and communitydedication.

Asheadwomen’svolleyballcoach,ChinfashionedaHallofFameresume-literally-earninginductionintotheAmericanVolleyballCoachesAssociation(AVCA)HallofFameinDecember,2006.Chinisalsoamemberof theConnecticutVolleyballHallofFame (Inducted

October,1998),theConnecticutWomen’sBasketballHall of Fame (April,1999), and theAthleticsHall ofFameatheralmamater,SUNY-Cortland.

Ina19-yearcareer(1975-93)asheadcoachfortheChargers,sheposteda578-179record(.764)andwasatthattimeonlythefifthDivisionIIcoachtowin500careermatches. TheChargersmade10 trips to theNCAAtournamentduringChin’sreign,reachingthetopfivefourtimes.HerawardsincludesixAVCANortheastRegionCoachoftheYeardistinctionsaswellaseightNewEnglandCollegiateConferenceCoachoftheYearhonors.ChincoachedtheChargerstotwelve30-winseasons,includingsixstraight.Sheisalsorecognizedinternationallyasatopvolleyballclinician.

Asanadministrator,Chinhasservedonover30nationalandregionalcommittees.Inadditiontohermostrecentposition as Chair of the Division II Management Council, herresumeincludestermsaschairpersonfortheNCAADivisionIIVolleyballCommittee(1988-92),theNCAADivisionIIBaseballCommittee(1997-2001),theNCAANortheastRegionalFootballCommittee(1999-2003),andtheNACDAJohnMcLendonMinorityScholarshipCommittee(1999-present).SheservedfouryearsontheNACWAABoardofDirectors(1993-96),andactedastheVolleyballCommissionerforthe1995SpecialOlympicsWorldGamesheldinNewHaven.

A graduate of SUNY-Cortlandwith a Bachelor’s ofScience in Physical Education, Chin earned herMaster’sofSciencedegreeinPhysicalEducationfromUNC-Greensboro.

Throughitsprograms,thedepartmentgivesitsstudent-athletesofdifferentgenders,races,religions,nationaloriginsandsexualorientationopportunitiestoparticipateinintercollegiatecompetition.TheintercollegiateprogramwillfunctionfreeofdiscriminationwithaUniversitycommitmenttotheadherencetoTitleIXandtheOfficeofCivilRightsguidelines.AmajorgoaloftheDepartmentofAthletics istohelpstudent-athletesrealizethefullpotentialoftheirathleticabilitieswhilealsoincreasingtheir intellectualcapabilitiesandprovidingthemameaningfulopportunitytoearnabaccalaureatedegree.Thedepartmentwillnotcompromiseitscommitmenttoeducateandgraduateitsstudent-athletes.
