prehensive nationwide search in 2010 before hiring

versity for nine years, including serving as associate head trainer from

The Seahawks softball team practices and plays home games at
Martin Field, which is adjacent to the Lamar State-PA campus at
1000 Lakeshore Drive.
The field, which is located next to the old National Guard Ar-
mory the college uses for technology classes, belongs to the City of
Port Arthur. It was in disrepair in 2004, when the college was in the
planning stages of adding the intercollegiate softball program.
Before the first team hit the field in the fall of 2004, LSC-PA
staff and crews from Jefferson County graded the field, planted new
grass, erected a new backstop and fence and added dugouts.
In early 2005, in preparation for the Seahawks joining the Divi-
sion I Region XIV conference, the Physical Plant staff did extensive
work on the field, including new dirt and Bermuda grass, which is a
better playing surface.
They also built a concrete walkway behind the backstop and in-
stalled bleachers donated by the Nederland Independent School Dis-
trict. The Rotary Club of Port Arthur and the North Port Arthur
Rotary Club donated money to buy an electronic scoreboard that was installed the week before the hurricane hit in September 2005. It somehow
came through the storm with no damage.
Before the 2006 season, college staff re-graded the field, planted new Bermuda grass and installed a new sprinkler system to improve wa-
tering coverage.Future improvements to the field include installation of the field lights that were donated to the college by the Nederland ISD.
