CCHS graduation is tomorrow night on L.E. Bell FieldCleburne County High School will hold

graduation ceremonies tomorrow night on L.E. Bell Field in Heflin.

Alexandria Ma-rie Williamson is the valedictorian.

Williamson is the daughter of Brice and Melissa Williamson of Heflin. Her grandpar-ents are John and Jean Williamson of Heflin and Edith Hammond of Heflin and the late Douglas Hammond.

Her activities include placing first in the com-prehensive division and second in the algebra II division of the Southern Union Math Tourna-ment. She is a member of the Beta Club and the Math Club, played volleyball and was chosen “Most Improved Player” . She is also a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Williamson plans to attend Auburn Univer-sity on a Spirit of Auburn Presidential Scholar-ship, the Birdie Tucker Smith Scholarship and

the Auburn University Board of Trustees Schol-arship and plans to major in software engineer-

ing.Salutatorian is Erica

Elise Adams.Adams is the daugh-

ter of Eric and Jenny Adams of Heflin. Her grandparents are the late Penton and Evelyn Adams of Heflin and Tony and Susie Gay of White Plains.

Her activities in-clude: senior vice presi-

dent, was a member of the Geometry, Algebra II and Calculus teams that placed second each year at the Southern Union Math Tournament in their respective years.

She was president of the Student Council an d the Math Club, a member of the Prayer and Bible Club, Students Against Destructive Deci-sions, Beta Club, Youth Leadership Cleburne County, was captain of the Junior Varsity Cheer-leadiing Squad and a Tigerette in the marching

band.Adams plans to attend Jacksonville State

University on a Faculty Scholarship and pursue a degree in secondary mathematics education.

Ranburne High School has 65 candidates for graduationRanburne High

School has 65 candi-dates for graduation tonight at 7 p.m. on the Harlan Robinson Football Field.

Valedictorian for this year is Linda Katherine (Katie) Wood.

Wood is the daugh-ter of Roger and Me-linda Wood and her grandparent is Gervyace Preston of Ranburne.

Her activities was being drum major for the marching band and first chair trumpet in the

concert band. She also earned first chair trumpet at the

district level and second chair Red Band All-State Honor Band and has received numerous university honor band awards.

Wood is a member of the Scholars’ Bowl Team, Physics Team, Math Team, Language Arts Team, Beta Club and Spanish Club.

She plans to attend Jacksonville State Uni-versity and major in mathematics and physics.

Brianna Hunter is salutatorian for RHS. Her parents are Rodney and Shanda Hunter

and her grandparents are Betty Hayes of Heflin and Louise Hunter of Heflin.

Her activities include being a member of the Sr. Beta Club, Spanish Club, Math Team, Phys-

ics Team, Scholars Bowl Team, Lan-guage and Fine Arts Team, the Fellowship of Christian Musi-cians, Student Coun-cil, Breakfast Book Club and Prayer and Bible Club, was voted Who’s Who “Most Likely To Succeed”, was co-captain of the

marching band and flute section leader. Hunter plans to attend Auburn University

and pursue a Ph.D in psychology and a career as a clinical/forensic psychologist.

Gadsden State Community College recently held the annual Honor’s Day events in Anniston at the McClellan Center Gadsden and in Gads-den at the Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center and.

The events span two days of recognizing student’s achievements and scholarship presentations. Over 140 students were honored and more than $200,000 was awarded in scholarships. Students who received awards and scholarships are:

History Department Student Service Award - Amanda Kerr, Heflin; Technology Division Outstanding Achievement: Air Conditioning & Refrigeration - Michael Godfrey, Fruithurst; Automotive Manufacturing Technology - Joseph Garrett, Heflin; Electronic Engineering Technology - Jameson Pollard, Heflin; Certificates were presented for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Col-

leges 2012 at the conclusion of the ceremony - Amanda Kerr, Heflin

GSCC honors local students

The Phi Theta Kappa chapters of Gadsden State Community College recently held an Induction Ceremony at Wallace Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden.

The three chapters are Beta Beta Eta (McClellan Center), Beta Delta Rho (Ayers Campus) and Rho Rho (Gadsden). Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for two-year colleges. Students must have a 3.5 grade point average to join, and maintain a 3.0 during their membership. Students inducted are:

Fruithurst: Armendie LongHeflin: Brenda Moore, Lauren Smith The National Tech Honor Society induction was also held.The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at Gadsden State Community College has added

69 new members. The organization is a leader in providing recognition for excellence in career and technical education, creating significant occupational opportunities for America’s top workforce education students, access to an employment database maintained by the organization and letters of recommendation to gain employment, scholarships and college admission.

NTHS membership is open to students in all technical programs offered at Gadsden State. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher for a technical program major, the recommendation of a faculty member, and be active in their community to qualify for membership.

Hunter plans to get a Ph.D in psychology from Au-burn and become a clinical/forensic psychologist.

Son of Kim and Gary Roy performed in the concert and marching band, jazz band, Beta Club, Scholar’s Bowl Team, Physics Team and Spanish Club.

He said he will at-tend the Universi-ty of Alaama where he plans on major-ing in psychology.

*David Dake - Son of Holly and Bobbie Char participated in varsity football, Senior Beta Club and FCA.

He plans on mak-ing a career with the U.S. Navy.

*Sierra Smith - Daughter of Sherri Wallace and Eddie Smith participated in the Beta Club, Spanish Club, Physics Team, Student Council - VP, Students Against De-structive Decisions and Operation Christ-mas Child Project.

Smith plans to attend Auburn University and earn a degree in chemical engineering.

*Dylan Costley - Son of Whitney and Chuck Yearta partici-pated in the band, Beta Club, Physics Team and Spanish Club.

He is trying to decid-ed between becoming a chemical engineer or game art design

sity softball, Prayer & Bible Club, yearbook editor, student council, Who’s Who “Best All Around”, participated in Rural Health Schol-ars Program at the Uni-versity of Alabama.

She plans on attend-ing Southern Union State Community Col-lege then transfer to the University of West Georgia and pursue a career in nursing.

*Ashley Elizabeth Harris - Daughter of Kathy and the late James Harris, was a feature majorette in the RHS Marching Band, Spanish Club, Prayer & Bible Club, FFA, FCCLA, Fellow-ship of Christian Mu-sicians, Winners’ Club Breakfast, student council senior rep-resentative, Sr. Beta Club secretary, senior class president and editor of the yearbook.

Harris plans to attend Auburn University and major in industrial en-gineering while being involved in the Auburn University Marching Band as a majorette.
