A Message from the

President

Welcome to fall

semester at Wallace State

Community College!

This fall, we look

forward to the opening of

several renovated facili-

ties, including the much

anticipated reopening of

the Bailey Center and its

new one stop student

services center as well as

the opening of a beautiful

new spa-like setting for our cosmetology program.

Students will also notice the continued greening of

our campus, including the recent addition of land-

scaping and sidewalks along Highway 31, recycling

bins in buildings, and a Clean Air Policy that pro-

hibits smoking on campus except in personal vehi-

cles. The addition of temporary parking on the north

end of campus provides convenient access to cam-

pus for commuting students as construction begins

on Wallace State’s new School of Nursing and Cen-

ter for Science slated to open in fall 2013. A new on-

line student portal at myWallaceState is streamlining

the admissions, financial aid, advising, and registra-

tion processes, while events and activities for all

ages and interests complement the wide array of

classes on campus and online.

As a student-centered, learning-centered insti-

tution, our initiatives are geared toward fostering

student engagement and positive student outcomes,

ensuring that our graduates are well prepared for

beginning a career or for university transfer. As a

result, more high school seniors taking the ACT

indicate a preference for attending Wallace State

than any other college in the Alabama Community

College System, and the Aspen Institute recently

designated Wallace State as one of the top 120 com-

munity colleges in America based on the outcomes

our students achieve. Not only do we lead the Ala-

bama Community College System in graduation

rates, but a recent report in Community College

Week also ranked Wallace State among the "Top 50

Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Related

Clinical Sciences" in the United States. An interna-

tionally-recognized Achieving the Dream institution,

Wallace State is the place to be this fall.

We hope that you will join us and be inspired by

the Wallace State of Mind!
