The conference offers the athletes interactive sessions that promote self-confidence and independence. LEARN BASIC FIRST AIDInteractive session by the Newark Fire Department will introduceSpecial Olympics athletes to the basics of home first aid. Tips onhow to handle minor injuries, how to build a first-aid kit, etc., willbe just some of the topics covered.

JUST DANCE!Burn calories, stay fit, and enjoy a fun workout all while having ablast with your favorite songs. Raise the roof and rock it out withthe West Chester University crew!

BE MORE THAN AN ATHLETE ...Do more than compete - find out what it takes to be part of thegame by learning about First Steps to being a Special OlympicsCoach/Team Volunteer, Official or Camp Counselor! BODIES, BOUNDARIES AND HUMANSEXUALITY - (with Q&A session)

CAN WE TALK? (Parenting Forum)

This workshop is designed to help parentsand guardians become more comfortableand confident addressing sexuality issuesthat commonly surface among peoplewith intellectual disabilities, as well asunderstand roles they play in supportingsexual learning. A Q&A session will beheld after the break.

Casual roundtable discussions intended asan open forum to help parents and familiesspeak candidly about the struggles and joysof living with a child or family member withspecial needs.

INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATE WITH CONFIDENCEYOU CAN DO IT - communicate with confidence! Every person has the potential to become a good communicator. Whether shyor expressive, Special Olympics athletes can develop effective speaking skills with the help of experienced leaders from theToastmasters Club. (This is designed as an introductory session to the 8-week course offered by Special Olympics Delaware.)

EMERGENCY 911Emergencies don't happen very often. But when they do, you want to get help fast. This is another interactive session by theNewark Fire Department that will give participants a greater understanding of what to do in case of emergency situations.

ZUMBAZumba is a dance fitness program based on international and latin rhythms such as salsa, cha-cha, samba, African, Bollywood,hip-hop and much, much more!! Who can Zumba? Everyone can Zumba! So come and join the fun!

DOLLARS AND SEN$EA penny saved is a penny earned - REALLY! This workshop by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) will help empowerparticipants with an understanding of basic money management skills.

Meet our Guest Speaker: Karen Gaffney

Karen is president of the Karen Gaffney Founda�on, a non-profitorganiza�on that is dedicated to the journey to full inclusion for peoplewith Down syndrome and other disabili�es.

Karen is a dedicated and accomplished swimmer. In2001 Karen completed a relay swim across theEnglish Channel. She has since completed a numberof swims across San Francisco Bay and the "EscapeFrom Alcatraz" relay triathlons. This past year shetook on a new challenge ... she made history as sheswam 9 miles across the waters of Lake Tahoe.
