Judges’ Choice Awards

This year we have introduced a new type of award – the Judges' Choice Awards. Each judge selects one aspect of the year’s productions that they personally want to recognise. It could be for a favourite performance, a single moment or song, or a particularly impressive technical achievement. It could be for a full show, an individual or a team, on-stage or backstage or front of house. And it could be for contributions to performances that do not fit into the 46 existing categories. The awards are made without nomination and are announced at the Nominations function.

Rules and definitions Only amateur and pro–am productions will be considered. Any notable achievement can be nominated for an award – regardless of the professional status of the personnel involved. Young people performing children’s roles in non-youth productionsare considered for awards in youth performance categories. Adults appearing in a school or youth production are eligible for awards in the open categories, not the youth categories. The judges will usually make a maximum of six nominations and one Award in each category. However if the standard is particularly high in some categories we may make more than six nominations, and may make joint Awards. Judges who are actively involved in productions are not eligible for awards. However other aspects of such productions are eligible for consideration. Judges take no part in discussions on shows in which they are involved
