2012 CAMP ITINERARY
MON 27TH SCHOOL/CANBERRA AUGUST
7.00am students assemble at school for a 7.15am coach departure. Our travel today is via the Hume Highway to Albury for lunch (group supplies own lunch today). Then it's on via Yass and the Barton Highway to Canberra for four nights’ accommodation Capital Country Holiday Village. Dinner tonight is at 6.30pm.
TUE 28TH OUR NATION'S CAPITAL AUGUST After a 7.00am breakfast, we start our tour with an 8.30am visit to the Australian Institute of Sport which provides sports training and competition facilities of world standard. Whilst here, we will have a 40 minute guided tour of the facility followed by 40 minutes in the AIS Visitors Centre. We then enjoy a visit to the Electoral Education Centre which provides students with first-‐hand knowledge about the electoral process. Our 10.30am session includes an audio-‐visual presentation, an interactive display area and a classroom/polling place. Our lunch is delivered here at 12noon. After lunch, we visit the High Court of Australia -‐ the pinnacle of the Australian judicial system. At 1.00pm, our guide will give us an overview of the history, role and powers of the High Court, as well as an explanation of the workings of each courtroom. Located adjacent to the High Court is the Australian National Gallery which houses our national art collection. Here we take a 2.00pm guided tour. We then finish the day with a 3.30pm visit to Cockington Green, a miniature English Village. Here we enjoy a self guided walk through the grounds. WED 29TH AUGUST THE POLITICAL STATE After a 7.30am breakfast this morning, we visit the National Museum for a 9.00am self guided tour. Here we have the opportunity to experience a fresh and exciting approach to Australia’s history, cultures and environment. We then visit the Australian War Memorial which contains the Hall of Memory, Roll of Honour, Aeroplane Hall and an absorbing War Museum (11.00am booking). Relics of Australia's involvement in conflicts since 1885 portray Australian men and women at war from Gallipoli to Vietnam. Lunch is delivered here at 1.00pm. After lunch, we travel to the Royal Australian Mint, the home of the nation's decimal coinage. At 2.00pm we will receive a 15 minute theatrette presentation, visit the factory observation windows and the National Coin Collection display as well as the opportunity to participate in our 'make your own coin' experience (at students own expense). We then visit the National Portrait Gallery, where we enjoy a 3.30pm education program “Possibilities of Portraiture” and try to make links between social history, artistic development and cultural values. Following a 6.00pm dinner this evening we take a night lights tour which includes an 8.00pm panoramic view from Telstra Tower on Black Mountain.

THU 30TH AUGUST LIVING LESSON Breakfast is at 7.30am. Our last day in Canberra begins with a visit to Parliament House on Capital Hill. Here we enjoy a 9.00am tour, participate in a 10.00am education program and have 11.00am
hospitality with our local member (if he or she is available). We then head to The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. Here we have a 12.00noon
education program “Our Voices our Choices” and gain a unique insight into Australia’s history by exploring the events, people and decisions that have shaped our nation. After lunch is delivered here
at 1.00pm, we enjoy a 2.00pm 1 hour cruise with full commentary on Lake Burley Griffin. Our final visit for the day and in fact, our tour is to the National Science & Technology Centre (3.30pm booking). A fascinating hands-‐on science exhibition which houses over one hundred and fifty exhibits in six galleries. Each gallery represents a different aspect of science and technology. Dinner tonight is at 6.00pm. We then enjoy use of the conference room for our own activities. FRI 31ST AUGUST CANBERRA/HOME This morning, after a 6.30am breakfast, we board our coach and farewell Canberra. Expected arrival back at school is approximately 5.30 -‐ 6.00pm.

Shirts/Tshirts, Tracksuit (ideal for sleeping), Rubber Soled Walking Shoes, Handkerchiefs.
GENERAL: Towels (for students only), Toilet Requisites, Sunglasses,
Torch, Camera/Films, Games/Cards, CD’s, DVD’s for the coach and Bumbag.
PLEASE NOTE: A luggage limit of one Sausage/Sports bag or medium size suitcase plus one
school or travel bag applies per person. Sausage/Sports bags are the most suitable luggage for accommodated tours. The school/travel bag is useful inside the coach for day-‐to-‐day items (e.g. lunch on first day, camera, torch and games, etc.). Metal-‐framed Rucksacks or Backpacks are not accepted.
LUGGAGE LIMIT: Suitcase; one which should not exceed the total linear dimensions of 140cm (i.e. length and width and depth) and weight of 15kgs. NOTE: Sausage, Sports Bags are acceptable. *Metal-‐framed backpacks are not permitted. Hand Luggage: One softsided bag no larger than: -‐ Width 23cm, Height 34cm, Length 48cm The hand luggage must be able to fit in the luggage racks above the seats, on the coach. If this is not possible, the hand luggage will need to be repacked to fit on the racks or placed in the luggage bins under the coach. Please note that RED/WHITE/BLUE STRIPED SHOPPING BAGS & CRICKET BAGS will not be allowed on the tour. Any luggage that does not adhere to the above measurements & weight may not be accepted by the coach captain due to limited luggage space and weight allowance.
