DESCRIPTION

The greener side of Cooley. Founded just two years later in 1972, Cooley has consistently been a leader in managing and using resources properly. In acquiring our Lansing, Auburn Hills, Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, and Tampa Bay facilities, we have renovated and rebuilt structures; we have never torn them down. We have equipped them with the latest technology to reduce electricity, decrease water consumption, and minimize the need for coolin in the summer and heating in the winter. We have also reduced the use of paper and plastic while recycling much of what we do use. All of our buildings are now green certified by SERF, the Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities, or are LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Nobody makes a greater mistake than he who does nothing because he could do so little. ”Edmund Burke, 1729-1797, British Politician

Together we share only one planet. Ours is a world of precious beauty and limited resources. But we do not own it. We are merely its custodians, its caretakers. We hold it in trust for future generations.

By the 20th century, much of modern society seemed to have forgotten what the ancient peoples knew instinctively: that our natural resources must be preserved and protected. There is much evidence that earlier civilizations managed their natural resources effectively. By the first Earth Day in 1970, it had become clear that we needed to re-learn how to do the same.

We have equipped them with the latest technology to reduce electricity, decrease water consumption, and minimize the need for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter.

We have also reduced the use of paper and plastic while recycling much of what we do use. All of our buildings are now green certified by SERF, the Society of Environmentally Responsible Facilities, or are LEED certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

As year end approaches, I send you this calendar as a gift from Cooley. I hope you will enjoy the beauty of our facilities and benefit from the enclosed thoughts on how you can join Cooley in conserving and protecting our planet.

With best wishes,

Don LeDuc President and Dean
