EVENT IMPACT
LUNCHEON
LITTLE DINNER
The Book & Author Luncheon, to be held on May 1st at the Country Club of Virginia, offers
guests the opportunity to dine with an author at their table and to have their books
autographed. Seating is limited to approximately 75 guests.
Sponsorship of the Book & Author Little Dinner provides the opportunity to host a private,
intimate dinner the evening of April 30th at which the panel of authors will share stories and
be available to autograph books.
The Book & Author Event offers sponsors a variety of opportunities to interact with best-
selling authors, League members, and the Richmond community. Last year’s event raised
over $60,000 to assist the League in its mission to promote volunteerism, develop the
potential of women, and improve communities through effective action and leadership of
trained volunteers.

Organizational Overview
The Junior League of Richmond is an organization committed to positive
change in the Richmond community, and built on the idea that this change is possible by developing the potential of women. As an organization with
nearly 1,000 active volunteer members from the Richmond area, the Junior League of Richmond has an extraordinary capacity to make a difference on
the local level. In fiscal year 2012 alone, League members contributed over 30,000 hours of service. The League strives to make Richmond a better
place for its children and families today, and helps to empower its members
to become vehicles for change well into the future.
All members of the Junior League of Richmond pay annual dues, which cover some of the administrative costs associated with preparing those members
for their volunteer duties. The League also depends largely on individual donations and corporate contributions to facilitate much of their
programmatic efforts. Programs that greatly benefit Richmond children, such as Kids in the Kitchen, Good Sports, and Families First would not be
possible without substantial private funding.
As you are a vital part of the Richmond business community, the Junior League of Richmond would be honored to have the opportunity to partner
with you in this important work. Your support would not only benefit local children and families in the Richmond area, but would also help build a
future network of trained and committed volunteers to support those most in
need in the years to come. By contributing to the League, your commitment to the health of the Richmond area would be evident to the 1,000 members
of the Junior League of Richmond, the League’s many friends in the Richmond business community, and the thousands of families and children
who benefit directly from the League’s volunteers and initiatives.
In addition to meeting the needs of some of Richmond’s most underserved populations, the Junior League of Richmond is creating a network of
knowledgeable, connected, and fully trained women, ready to take on the challenges of building a healthier community. Supporting the League is a
great way to invest in the future strength of our wonderful city.
The Junior League of Richmond is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Highlights of community service and impact
Nearly 1,000 Junior League of Richmond members served the Richmond community and
contributed over 30,000 hours of service.
Over 1,000 people attended the 67th Annual Book & Author Dinner, our largest
fundraising event and the longest running event of its kind in the country. The event
raised more than $65,000.
Over 430 individuals, corporations and foundations, through their generous gifts to
the Annual Fund and sponsorships of events, enabled the JLR to bring our mission
to life.
In FY 2012, the two Clothes Rack stores combined (Cary Street and Stratford Hills)
provided quality, affordable merchandise to over 39,000 customers, selling over
156,000 items. The combined revenue increased 3% from FY2011, which had
previously been our best year.
Over 300 elementary and middle school students, teachers and parents attended the 8th
Annual Junior Book & Author event featuring Author Graham Salisbury. In addition,
over 1,300 elementary and middles school students enjoyed individual school district
visits and presentations as well as participating in our Chat ‘n’ Chew sessions led by our
JLR volunteers prior to the event.
More than 3,000 children and families enjoyed the 6th annual Touch a Truck event, a
hands-on opportunity to explore construction trucks, buses and heavy machinery while
meeting the people who build, protect, and serve the Richmond community.
Touch a Truck was attended by more than 3,000 and raised over $33,000 for the
Junior League.
Done-in-a-Day did 62 community outreach projects adding several new partners and
at least one was done in the East End each month.
250 children and 250 adults participated from Richmond City schools and community
centers in our Literacy Through Art Outreach program where art and books are
brought together. 220 books were provided to attendees.
Kids in the Kitchen was a success this year with 7 programs and 30 kids at each
program from Woodville Elementary. Stations were set up at each program to teach the
kids about healthy eating and sampling different types of foods such as cheeses,
smoothies, and hummus.
125 children were served over 4 nights of back-to-school shopping through JLR’s
partnership with YMCA Bright Beginnings.
50 families through six community athletic programs held at Peter Paul Development
Center were served by Good Sports, a program aimed at character development
through sports.
Over 200 people attended Families First events at Southside Child Development Center
and Woodville Elementary Schools. The children’s programs focused on interactive
activities on healthy eating, dental care, arts and crafts and fun, educational games.
The adult programs focused on healthy eating, health care options, education and
positive parenting. The Operating Committee was a huge help at Thanksgiving by
providing and serving food for the largest attended program of the year.
The New Member class completed four Community projects for the Peter Paul
Development Center. They collected and distributed stocking caps, scarves, gloves,
food and school supplies to 80 children. The New Members also provided each of the
Center’s 30 seniors with goodie baskets in the Spring.
The Sustainer Doers provided enrichment activities for 75 children at Southside Child
Development Center. They also supported teachers and staff at Christmas staff
luncheons, a full week of treats and lunches during Teacher Appreciation week. The
Doers were also busy at the Fan Free Clinic, providing 40 clients with dinners, bingo
games, collecting food for the pantry among many other projects. The Hospital
Hospitality House, which is always a favorite volunteer spot for many Junior League
members, was treated to two ice cream socials which drew over 60 guests.
Our Future The Junior League of Richmond has spent several years further defining the needs of the
community, the passions and talents of our membership and our organizational core
competencies. Recently the Board of Directors adopted a new Vision for the organization:
The Junior League of Richmond empowers, educates and enhances the quality of
life for women, youth and families, with an emphasis in the East End community,
through effective programming and collaboration demonstrated by quality
mentorship and family programs that build skills to reach educational goals, plan
for the next phase of life, and generate pride in the community.
In the coming years, the Junior League of Richmond will continue to work with key
community partners to utilize our volunteer and financial resources to create meaningful
impact in the community.
