by “Streaming on Line.” ***************************** Apostolate as Work for the Salvation of Souls Consideration: Man is created unto the image and likeness of God. Therefore, man according to the essence of his creation is an image and likeness of charity, who is God. Charity refers to God and neighbor. God deserves to be loved above everything. Our neighbor must be loved as ourselves for the love of God. Pathways to God St. Vincent Pallotti - #143**************************************** Please note that there are a limited

number of available dates for 7 Masses to be said in this year of 2020. Come or call the rectory to schedule Masses for your loved ones this year**************************************** Practice of Faith Themes of hunger, satisfaction, and abundance pervade today’s readings. As God provides food in abundance to satisfy physical hunger, so too does God provide abundantgrace in Christ, grace that more than satisfies our spiritual hungers. God’s grace is so abundant that it overflows, working in us and through us to provide for the needs of others. The Eucharist we receive is the source of this abundant grace and commits us to lives of service. Through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, we share God’s abundant grace with those in need. Let one or more of these Works of Mercy guide your responseto the needs of those you encounter this week. During a homily on this Gospel, Pope Francis explained that those who receive the Eucharist need to be compassionate, just as Jesus is in sharing himself with us. “One who goes to the Eucharist without having compassion for the needy and without sharing is not at ease with Jesus”, Pope Francis said.

Scripture Insights

Remember that Paul’s audience was a small and vulnerablegroup living in the imperial center of Rome, the very powerthat condemned and crucified Jesus. Paul states in our verses today that they should have no fear for any condem-nation because (1) God, who is good and generous, loves in a way that surmounts all, and (2) Jesus, as one who has been condemned, is not going to turn around and condemn. What they worry may separate them from Christ’s love - such as hardship, distress, persecution, nakedness, and peril - actually unites them to him, because Christ has also experienced these things. These words also brought particular resonance. Paul’s audience lived with a worldview that assumed the station- ary earth was surrounded by seven moving spheres inhab- ited with malicious spirits and evil powers. Deity and safety could only be found by going beyond those spheres.Paul tells the Romans, instead, that nothing can separate them from their God. In fact, he says that they don’t need togo anywhere, because God has come to them in Jesus Christ. We see the love of God in action in today’s Gospel. Matthew clearly tells us that Jesus has taken time to cure the sick out of compassion, despite his original plans for a retreat. When it becomes late and in response to the disciples’ suggestion to disperse the crowd, Jesus replies that there in no need for the crowd to go anywhere or to buy food. Instead, he performs a miracle and, with his disciples’ assistance, feeds five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. Just as our readings from the Psalms and from Isaiah announce, God responds to our needs and provides free sustenance and nourishment.

How do needs and hurts bring people together or push people apart? In what ways do we meet people where they are?

We rush everywhere, and many demands weigh onus. It can sometimes make us feel so weak we forget thelove Jesus taught us.Living by his example - being loving, slow to anger, without acting hastily - requires us to dramatically slowdown in this fast-paced world, to contemplate and pray . Asa reward, God’s abundant blessings will rain down on us inthe form of spiritual food and nourishment. We need to findthe time, make the commitment to prayer, and deepen our

relationship with God. Prayer is the food we need to be nourished spiritually so we can meet all our daily demands. No sickness, hardship, or sorrow need distance us from God’s love. With God’s help, we can rise above adversityor hardship and find the way and strength to do good for others. Jesus’ feeding the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish was a miracle indeed. If Jesus was able to satisfy their physical hunger in such a radical way, we can only imagine the miracles that await us when we ask him to feed us too. Ildiko O’Dacre
