A LETTER FROM EDWARD CESARE

Fellow King Parents and Members of the King Community:

For the past three years I have opened King’s Annual Report with

the above salutation. It is particularly poignant this year as, after 13

years, Christine and I are no longer King parents! We do remain, as

all of you are, community members of a school with an important

history and bright future. The philanthropy of our community, and

the Annual Fund in particular, is an emblem of our commitment

to our community and an acknowledgement that we all share something special –

something worth perpetuating and growing together.

This is our second consecutive year with greater than 90% parent

participation, and a particularly gratifying 97% new parent participation.

It also continues a very long string of 100% participation by Faculty and

Staff, and the Board of Trustees.

These numbers are a reassuring testimony of a shared recognition that we as

community members are indeed fortunate to have a relationship with King. The

generosity they represent echoes the theme of this Annual Report – “A Year of

Service and Support.”

King would like to pay tribute to those heroes who have served our country. This dedication not only motivates us

to honor and remember our service members, but inspires us to act and give back. Ms and us students were

given the opportunity to ask questions of former army 1st Lt. John fernandez and sgt. Jared Luce.

fernandez, who lost the lower portion of his legs in iraq, and Luce, who lost both legs in iraq, are part of the

Wounded Warriors Project. This is just one of the profound learning experiences that marked

a year of service and support at King in 2012.

Dear King Community:

It is always a pleasure to write this introduction letter for the

Annual report. this document represents, literally and

symbolically, the profound generosity of the King community.

It is through the support of so many generous individuals and

families that we are able to continue to develop our educational

programs, our facilities for teaching and learning, and our

superior faculty and Staff. throughout this report, you will witness King’s Service

learning Program in action, and the results of our students’ commitment to our

2011-2012 theme - Honoring those Who Served and Sacrifi ced.

Our School has experienced so much success during the past decade and is built on a tremendous history that is closing in on 150 years.

Hard to believe, but accurate, we are almost 150 years old. throughout these times,

recent and distant, there have been families and individuals that have supported the

School in powerful and profound ways. many in ways that we will never know. We

owe all these people a debt of gratitude. this document neatly recognizes those

that have supported our School in the past year, which is just as signifi cant as each

of the preceding years, and we owe these people our gratitude. our percentage of

Annual fund parent participation has been outstanding for some time, and again

this year we closed at greater than 90%. Inspiring! As we move through the next

year, the next decade, and even the next 150 years, it is the tremendous support

of the King community that will serve as a critical foundation, supporting the

continued development and growth of our School. those of you that supported

the School this year, and are recognized in this document, will forever be a part

of the life of this School.

on september 9, 2011, we honored and remembered the thousands of lives lost on the anniversary of 9/11 by planting

over 750 fl ags across our campus.

Bridget Pritchard and her husband, Andy, have

been parents at King for 5 years, but their roots at

King far exceed those years; Bridget’s husband,

Andy, graduated from King in 1981. Bridget is

currently the President of the Parents’ Association

at King. In her years here, she has volunteered

in numerous roles such as co-chair of the

Parents Support Community Service committee

and wrapping paper drive, Grade representative as well as mS Vice

President. Bridget, Andy, and their children owen ‘21, James ‘17, and

luke ‘15, reside in Norwalk.

amy silberfein served as President of the Parents’

Association during the 2010-2011 academic year.

She has also managed the School Store, assisted

the lS Divisional VP, and has served as a room

Parent for 10 years and team mom for numerous

seasons of sports. Amy is a graduate of trinity

College in Hartford. Amy and her husband, Andy,

came to King in 1999. they reside in Stamford with their two children,

Josh ’14 and rebecca ’16.

Moira snover has served as a parent volunteer on

King’s finance Committee for the past 2 years. moira

is a Partner with evergreen-Partners llC. for over

15 years, she has been structuring and managing

corporate trade transactions with many nationally and

internationally recognized brands. Her work involves

the creation of solutions for asset problems that deliver

a substantially higher value than a traditional cash sale. Prior to entering

the corporate trade world, moira spent 8 years with toyota tsusho America

in its metals Division where her primary focus was in the account service

area for manufacturers and distributors throughout the US. moira holds a

BA from Northwestern University and an mBA from New York University.

moira Snover, and her husband Brian, have been parents at King since 2007.

they reside in Stamford with their daughters emma ‘14 and maeve ‘18.

donna farber has served as executive Vice President

of the Parents’ Association for the last two years.

this year she will be working closely with the Arts

Council and will continue to volunteer her time in

other areas as well. Donna is also involved in the

Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Stamford, co-chairing several

of their Gala events. Donna and her husband, Jeff,

have been parents at King for eleven years. they reside in Stamford with

their two children, Andrew ’13 and Jordan ’14.

ed orenstein and his wife Claire have been parents

at King for twelve years. ed has been a long-time

volunteer for “Capitalizing on excellence: A

Campaign for King,” serving as Chair in 2005 and

then Co-Chair from 2010-2012. ed has previously

served as a trustee from 2003-2011 and has also

chaired the Annual fund from 2003-2006. In his

professional life, ed is currently a trader with mariner Capital. He has

also served on the Board of trustees for St. luke’s lifeWorks and was

head of giving at the Children’s School. ed, Claire, and their four

children, Will ’09, max ’11, Georgia ’13, and Charlotte ’16, reside in Darien.

Dear King Community:

throughout this year the reminder of our theme, “Honoring those Who Served and Sacrifi ced,”

has been key to our mutual understanding of improving the world. General Douglas macArthur’s

speech to the Corps of Cadets at West Point in 1962 spoke the following: “Duty, Honor, Country” —

those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you

will be. they are your rallying point to build courage when courage seems to fail, to regain faith

when there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.

As a community we became familiar with all. We were innovative and worked together on understanding the needs

of today’s global problems and collectively worked to deliver solutions to people in need. the results were magical!

King changed the perception of service learning while promoting creativity, compassion, and understanding.

We shall continue to strengthen and empower community understanding. the confi dence will continue to fl ourish

in sustainable growth and value, all while creating the grid that will change the dynamics of understanding.

Service learning is part of what we do, not an addition to what we do. I am deeply appreciative of our parent support,

for your help has brought the community together. our extraordinary faculty and Staff with their can-do spirit and

must-do service is a commitment to the investing in tomorrow. the message – portraits that truly demonstrate

the deeply personal and emotional connection our studies have made to educate, elevate, and graduate students

equipped to succeed in college and to pursue lives of ongoing inquiry, learning, accomplishment, personal

fulfi llment, and social responsibility.

A newly renovated Upper School is on the horizon. During the summer months pre-construction began inside the US building. Walls were taken

down, creating new open space on the main fl oor, the electricity was upgraded and much time was spent prepping the building for the major

renovations slated to begin during the summer of 2013.

As we enter into what promises to be another exciting year, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all of the families, Alumni, faculty,

Staff, and friends in our community who have given to this campaign since 2005. We simply would not be where we are today, without your support.

King’s Spring Benefi t, held on April 14, 2012 to benefi t King’s Upper School renovation, raised approximately $190,000 in net proceeds! With over

350 guests and tremendous support from the King community, the PAC rocked to the sounds of Blues traveler and the King Community stepped

A LETTER FROM EDWARD CESARE

Fellow King Parents and Members of the King Community:

For the past three years I have opened King’s Annual Report with

the above salutation. It is particularly poignant this year as, after 13

years, Christine and I are no longer King parents! We do remain, as

all of you are, community members of a school with an important

history and bright future. The philanthropy of our community, and

the Annual Fund in particular, is an emblem of our commitment

to our community and an acknowledgement that we all share something special –

something worth perpetuating and growing together.

This is our second consecutive year with greater than 90% parent

participation, and a particularly gratifying 97% new parent participation.

It also continues a very long string of 100% participation by Faculty and

Staff, and the Board of Trustees.

These numbers are a reassuring testimony of a shared recognition that we as

community members are indeed fortunate to have a relationship with King. The

generosity they represent echoes the theme of this Annual Report – “A Year of

Service and Support.”

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and as the parent of a third generation Alum
