Dear Colleagues:

2012 was a record-breaking year for ACCP! The 2012 Annual Meeting, held Sept. 23rd – 25th in San Diego, was a huge success as ACCP hosted its largest Annual Meeting in the history of the organization! Three days of exceptional educational Symposia, preceded by a day of Pre-meeting Workshops, ensured that ACCP maintained its reputation for excellence in Continuing Education. Attendees from around the world joined us to participate as keynote speakers, faculty, attendees, award winners, poster presenters and exhibitors. Building on this level of participation year after year will permit ACCP to continue to provide the highest quality of educational content and interaction.

The College continues to strive to meet Member requirements as processes are enhanced and evolve to provide value. We proudly launched the new eJournal, Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development, in late 2011, publishing four issues in 2012. In Q4 2012, ACCP announced its publishing partnership with Wiley Periodicals Inc, as well as its intent to publish The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology in electronic format only to better meet the needs of an ever-increasing electronic world. The Learning Management System was more effectively utilized to provide ease of access to materials and post-event testing for meeting attendees. In order to better meet the needs of Members, functionality was enhanced in ACCP’s communications and membership database systems. The website continues to evolve to provide valuable resources for Student & Trainee needs, career search tools and grants & funding opportunities. Social media outreach continues to grow and we have now exceeded our original goals for the number of clinical pharmacology professionals following us on both Facebook and LinkedIn.

We look forward to 2013 with great anticipation. As we continue to evolve, ACCP remains committed to its strategic goals and to supplementing recent initiatives with new efforts to meet Members’ needs. Our goal is to establish ACCP as a leading organization in clinical pharmacology and related scientific disciplines. We look forward to seeing you in Bethesda, Sept. 22nd – 24th, at the 2013 ACCP Annual Meeting, “Clinical Pharmacology in Optimizing Drug Development and Therapeutics.” Make ACCP your membership organization of choice for Continuing Education, networking and staying current on all matters clinical pharmacology-related.

Sincerely,

Lisa L. von Moltke, MD, FCPPresident

Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development

Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development (CPDD) is an international, peer-reviewed, online-only journal focused on publishing high quality clinical pharmacology studies in drug development which are primarily (but not exclusively) performed in early development phases in healthy subjects. Acceptance of a manuscript in CPDD will be determined by scientific rigor and technical soundness rather than perceived importance of the presented results. Thus, negative study results are explicitly not an obstacle for positive acceptance decisions. Only original research papers can be submitted in unsolicited form to CPDD. Editorials and reviews are considered by invitation only.

ACCP is pleased to announce that, in October 2012, it executed an agreement with Wiley Periodicals Inc to publish The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development starting in January of 2013.

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology

With its long-standing reputation for excellence, The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (JCP) continues to be a premier publication in the field. For more than 50 years, clinical pharmacologists, clinical and pharmaceutical researchers, drug development specialists, physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals have relied on JCP for original research, special reviews, commentaries, and case reports on all phases of drug development from absorption, disposition, metabolism, excretion interactions, and preferred uses through post-marketing evaluations.

Ranked in the top 26% of journals in pharmacology and pharmacy and selected as one of the “Journals of the Century” (Journals of the Century, The Haworth Information Press, 2002), JCP continues to attract outstanding manuscripts that enhance its reputation for scientific excellence.

Student & Trainee Outreach

The Student Outreach Committee, comprised of ACCP Student Members, Members and Fellows, actively pursues programs to enhance the Student & Trainee experience in ACCP. These programs are designed to provide internships or career opportunities, awards recognition through competition for poster presentations, leadership within ACCP or its Student Chapters, and a mentoring program designed to provide guidance and support. Additionally, ACCP’s outstanding Continuing Education program encourages Student participation in educational meetings or online educational Workshops and Symposia on cutting-edge, relevant topics related to clinical pharmacology and the optimal use of therapeutics. These interactions provide a forum for new scientific ideas and bring together healthcare professionals of various disciplines to meet and discuss areas of common interest.

The ACCP Student Newsletter focuses entirely on the needs of Students & Trainees and includes interviews with clinical pharmacology experts and outstanding Student Members, pertinent educational articles and other materials.

The ACCP Annual Meeting is an excellent opportunity for Students & Trainees to participate by submitting an abstract, taking part in Poster Session tours of exceptional posters with senior ACCP Members and Fellows and attending the Student & Trainee Networking Reception, where they can interact individually or as a group with experienced clinical pharmacology professionals, ask questions and get expert advice.

ACCP is committed to facilitating the success of the chosen careers of Students & Trainees in clinical practice, academia, industry or regulatory agencies by providing support and guidance through its Mentoring Program. Each request for a Mentor is matched to a uniquely suitable Fellow or Senior Member capable of answering questions and guiding the Student or Trainee through challenging educational and career choices.

In addition to collegial exchange and networking opportunities, ACCP publishes The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and the Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development eJournal, both of which are provided to Student Members in electronic format at no additional cost.
