Our Rotary Foundation Congratulations to each of you who made 2011-12 one of the best in The Rotary

Foundation's history!

Rotary-wide, $110.6 million was raised for the Annual Fund, the second highest

amount in the Foundation's history and a 3.72% increase from the previous year.

Our District 5890 was honored to finish 29th in the world (out of 530 Districts)

in total Annual Fund giving and 24th in Per-capita giving. In addition, we

received a letter from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Bill Boyd, praising our

District for being one of just a few Districts in which 100% of our clubs

contributed and gave a total of more than $100 per member District-wide. Our

per-capita giving was a record $186.12 per member. Congratulations to DG

Rhonda, Foundation Chair Suzi, and our own Annual Fund Chair Lucy Pendon

for leading us through this great year!

As we roar on to the 2012-13 Rotary Year, DG Chris, Annual Fund Chair Lucy,

and I jokingly ask "But what have you done for our Foundation lately?" Please

continue your giving

The Foundation Finds Ways to Give More The Rotary Foundation has begun cutting costs as a way to give more of the

funds it receives.

For one, the Foundation has begun emailing gift acknowledgments and tax

receipts for gifts received through its website or at the Foundation’s Chicago

bank. This change will save thousands of dollars per year in printing and postage

costs. Donors should receive their gift acknowledgment within a few days of the

Foundation’s receipt of their contribution. Sign in to Member Accessto ensure

that Rotary has your current email address.

A second cost-cutting move, the Paul Harris Fellow certificate folder was

recently changed from a padded folder to a heavy paper one. This change is

expected to save $125,000 annually, making more money available for Doing

SPC Bradley Thomas Comes Home Bradley Thomas was in Iraq less than a month

when a roadside bomb blew up the vehicle he was

riding in. The blast in January 2008 broke bones from

head to foot and propelled him into the roof of the

vehicle, causing severe traumatic brain injury.

Helping A Hero, a nonprofit dedicated to

providing support for

severely injured military

personnel, worked to build Bradley a

home equipped to support his needs. In

June, the Rotary Club of Brazosport

approved a

donation of

$10,000 to

Helping A Hero in support of building

Bradley a home.

On September 18, 2012 Bradley received

a heroes

welcome. Escorted from the Brazoria

County Airport he was led down streets

lined with American flags as county fire

trucks, EMS, police and the Brazoria

County Calvary led the procession to his

new home in Jones Creek.

Free Flu Shots October 9, 2012

11:15am prior to Rotary Meeting

Lucy Pendon will administer flu shots to

Rotarians and spouses.
