and play-by-play as well as halftime statis-tics will be furnished to the media. Ifrequested, game statistics will be sent viaFAX machine to your media outlet. Assistant Coaches

RICKY JOINESAssistant Coach

Ricky Joines is in his fourteenthseason as an assistant with theCatawba women’s basketball team.He is a 2002 Catawba graduate with adegree in physical education andrecreation. He also serves as an assis-tant to the Athletic Director atCatawba and is assistant director of the Cat-U BasketballCamps. Joines came to Catawba after serving as head coach of the

junior varsity girls basketball team at West Wilkes HighSchool. During those three years he also assisted with thegirls varsity program. In 1990-91, he assisted with the boysvarsity team that won the Northwest 2A Conference title.Joines earned an associate arts degree in 1996 at WilkesCommunity College where he played basketball for two seasons. He resides in Salisbury.

Angie Morton - Head Coach

Angie Morton begins hertenth season at thehelm of the Catawba

College women’s basketballprogram. Catawba has com-piled a 145-114 mark in herprevious seasons. Last year, Morton was

named SAC Coach of the Yearafter guiding Catawba to arunner-up league finish.In her first season, she led

Catawba to a 22-9 record andto both the South Atlantic

conference regular-season and tournament titles. The LadyIndians also qualified for the NCAA II Regional. Morton, a 1984Catawba graduate, returned to her alma mater after serving ashead coach at Pfeiffer University for seven seasons where shecompiled a 98-91 record.During her seven years at Pfeiffer, Morton guided the Lady

Falcons to a pair of Carolinas-Virginia Conference titles and theschool’s first NCAA II playoff berth in 2002-03. The back-to-back 20 win campaigns, including a 24-5 mark in 2002-03,earned Morton consecutive CVAC Coach of the Year honors.Morton was also a CVAC Coach of the Year in softball in 2000as she led Pfeiffer to the league crown. Prior to her stint at Pfeiffer, Morton was the girls head coach

from Catawba in1984, Mortonearned a bachelorof arts degree inelementary educa-tion. At Catawbaas Angie Crayton,she earned 10 let-ters, playing bas-ketball, softballand field hockey.In basketball,Morton played in86 games and aver-aged 5.5 points,netting a career high 26 in a loss to Wingate as a senior. Sheadded 163 rebounds and 107 assists. Morton was a .367 careerhitter in softball with nine home runs and 74 RBI.Morton resides in Albemarle with her husband, Randy.

They have four children, Matt, Keri, Krista and Tad.

DORTHELL LITTLEAssistant Coach

Dorthell Little begins her tenthseason as an assistant coach with theCatawba women’s basketball pro-gram. She is a 2003 graduate ofCatawba, earning a bachelor of sci-ence degree in business.Little played three seasons with

the Lady Indians after transferring from Armstrong Atlantic.She was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selectionand earned all-region honors as a junior. Little ranks thirdall-time with 95 blocked shots and fourth with 223 steals.Over her four collegiate seasons, Little scored 1,132 points

with 948 coming in three years at Catawba. She ranks ninthall-time at Catawba with 677 rebounds. Her career shootingpercentage of 57% is second best all-time. Little was a stand-out at Richmond Senior High School, helping the Raiders tothree conference titles.She resides in Salisbury.

Abernethy Physical Education Center

The Julius W. Abernethy Physical Education Center, home of Catawba’s basketball teams, is one of the finest on-campus athleticfacilities in the state of North Carolina. It was named after the late Julius W. Abernethy of Newton, N.C., and was dedicated onSeptember 26, 1970. Basketball games are played in the center’s Goodman Gymnasium, named in honor of Enoch A. Goodman ofSalisbury. The Lady Indians are 230-83 (73.5%) at home since beginning SAC competition in 1989-90. In October of 2002, the floorwas named in honor of former men’s basketball coach, Sam Moir.The building, which cost more than $1.8 million to build, has a seating capacity of 3,500 for basketball, and now has a value of

about $5 million. A beautiful maple hardwood playing surface was installed in December 1990. The facility is also used extensive-ly for intercollegiate volleyball, student activities, civic events, concerts and various athletic camps during the summer months.The College’s Athletic and Physical Education offices, as well as classrooms, are located on the upper level. Situated on the lower

level is the Allen S. Johnson Jr. Swimming Pool, three racquetball courts, the Meyer Auxiliary Gym complete with an indoor bat-ting cage, various student and athletic dressing accommodations, and the Lofland Strength Training Center.

LESLIE DENTAthletic Trainer

Leslie Dent is in her second year asAssistant Athletic Trainer at CatawbaCollege. In addition to her medical cov-erage for the men’s and women’s basket-ball teams, she also oversees coveragefor the cross country, swimming, tennisand golf teams, which includes bothhome and away practice and gamecoverage.

Dent received her Master of Arts, Exercise, Leisure and Sport witha concentration in athletic training from Kent State University this pastMay. While at Kent State, Dent worked with the football, softball andwomen’s basketball squads. Dent earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from

East Carolina University in 2009. She worked with numerous sports atECU, including football, softball, women’s basketball and women’s soc-cer. She has also helped staff regional basketball tournaments for theNorth Carolina High School Athletic Association.
