Why neglect Higher Education?

When educated people are not necessary for‘development’

When university students are a hindrance to‘development’

It is not that funds are inadequate!Budgets are a reflection of government policy!

Is there a threat to State Universities?

Why the Myths? Our graduates are unemployable!

Universities are violent!

Staff are incompetent!

Deal with the Threats! Poor life skills of AL students entering

The continuing brain drain of staff to foreign universities and now to private universities.

Increased political interventions in appointments to top posts

Ministers lists for university non-academic appointments

Graduates requiring letters from Ministers for Government Jobs

What should we ask for?

High Education Sector An increasing level of spending amounting to universities of 0.50 by

2013 and education at 2.80 which is the amount that was given in2005.

To raise this by say, 0.05 every year for higher education and by say,0.20 for education as a whole.

Universities Return to Institutional Independence

More allocation for research and institutional development, particularlyunder-funded programs

Raise university staff salaries on a agreed format. Need an assurancefor the young academics.
