“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Happy Valentines Day February 2012

A Valentine Forever

A Valentine is nothing like a chocolate or a rose. For in a week

these shall be gone, but Valentines remain.

If love were always sweet to tongue or fragrant to the nose,

Each day would be like Valentine’s and we would go insane.

A Valentine just hangs around, waiting to be kissed,

Long after special days have passed

And everyday’s are here.

So one is wise to choose one well,

And chocolate’s to resist.

For in the midst of mania,

It’s nice to have one near.

A VERY SPECIAL, HAPPY VALENTINES’S TO ALL!

The Second of February

There's only this one day the whole long year, That I hope and pray the sun

won't appear (not for Florida.)

The second of February, you all know, The groundhog goes searching for his shadow.

If he should find it, the story is told, We'll have six more weeks of winter's cold.

But if it is cloudy, his shadow's not there, There'll soon be warm weather and days will be fair.

So please, Mr. Sun, for just this one day. Find a big dark cloud - and stay away! (ONLY IN THE NORTH)

Newsletter Articles

Getting these pages done for the newsletter takes some time, thought and

ideas and I work on this a little almost everyday. I work on 2 and 3 months at a time to make sure it is

as interesting and informative as possible. I am always looking for newsy items and new restaurants

which I hope some of you can give me.

I am asking a little favor from all the contributors and even those who would like to contribute for future

newsletters. Please send me all info if by email in the .doc format or just regular email and do not

send any in the PDF format or just drop off to me at my home. If you send in the PDF format I cannot

edit any typo’s, add little pictures etc. Just one other little thing, please have all submissions to me by

the 15th

of the month. If I don’t get a full page then I have to scurry and find a filler for the rest of the

page. This is information stated monthly on the 2nd

page of each newsletter every month.

Thanks, Phyllis

From the Managers

Renting Your Home?

If you are renting your home or contemplating renting your home, even for a couple of weeks, we would like to

know. And just like when you moved in, your renters need to go through a reference check and fill out an

application with the office before they can occupy your home. Also, because your name is on the lease, you are

still responsible for the monthly lot payment.

Did We See Cars Parking On The Grass?

Yes, I think we did. Part of our job is to enforce the rules and our park rules state that “There will be NO

parking on the lawns”. So please refrain from parking on your lawn, whether it be in the front or back. This

also applies to the area adjacent or along Wild Road.

Didn’t We Write That Last Week?

The following reminders were in last month’s newsletter but we felt that we should repeat them this month.

Don’t Forget To Pay Those Government Charges!

The annual fees assessed by Pasco County are due in January, payable to Southfork Mobile Home Community.

This year they are the same as last year, $98.04. And please don’t be later than January 31 because we will have

to assess a late charge if we receive your payment after that date (and we really don’t like assessing late

charges).

Resident Referral Program.

You may have noticed that there are currently a large number of homes for sale and we could use your help. As

an incentive, we have instituted a resident referral program where you, as a resident, can earn up to $500 if you

refer someone who buys a home in Southfork. This is a limited time program which is scheduled to end Feb.

29, 2012. You may have already seen the flyers that explain what the program is about but if you haven’t, or

even if you have, please come by the office and ask about this great opportunity!

We can’t believe it’s February , 2012 already!

Where did the year go. In just a couple of months, we will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary with Southfork

and what a year it’s been. We hope you have enjoyed our being your managers as much as we have enjoyed

being your community managers. We are looking forward to a great year in 2012. You will continue to see

more improvements and changes that we hope will help to keep Southfork a premier community to live in and a

great place for all residents to call home, even if only for the winter!

See you around the park!

from the Association President

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Association activities have had a great start in the New Year. Many hands under the direction of Jim

Morvatz made our first ever Membership Dinner. Thank you all!

Mesquite Drive picked up the Breakfast Challenge which was another example of the great people who

live here.

February will be busy too. Please see the pages detailing the information for Valentine and Casino

nights.

Marielle Quain and I are working on another first……a Cruise on the amazing “Allure 2 of the Seas”. I

know the recent accident will make you stop to wonder if it is safe. Many of us have enjoyed many

cruises and by fall there will be more safety laws in place.

Need Your Help……………….What would you like to have in March and April?

Give me a call, please,

Dot Cady

Mr. Flu

Old January has come and gone at last, the month with cold and bitter blast that

chills my ears and bites a nose, nips the fingers and numbs the toe.

Yes, February will bring the longer rays of the sun, Chocolate hearts and rhymes of fun. But,

something else has followed too, those aches and pains by Mister Flu.

The cock has crowed, head a bustin, coughs and weezin, grab the Tussin. Down two spoons of this

nasty stuff, go back to bed because you’re still feeling rough.

Your week drags on a dreadful spell and you wished to die but since got well. Ah, health returns to

limb and hand in this great month after the six days I crawled and now I stand!

Women’s Club

January 4th (first meeting of the new year), 37 brave ladies met in the Clubhouse despite the

really cold weather of about 40 degrees. The Minutes and the Treasurer’s reports were read

and approved.

Shirley Rouer and Mary Bolin of the charity committee thanked everyone for their generosity of the

donation of socks, underwear, tooth brushes and tooth paste and the shoes that were collected. We

collected more items than ever and thanks to all of your generosity and caring. We also want to thank

the Men’s Club who provided 24 jars of peanut butter to go in the bags of food for the needy at

Christmas time.

Marge Otto of the Memorial committee sadly mentioned that we had 4 deaths recently, Tom Macomb,

Al Matala, Tom Morrison and John Enright. Marge distributed a list for the update of people needed for

the Memorial committee.

Carol Albers will head a committee who will make “Adult Bibs” for a local nursing home which was a

suggestion from Kathy Gallick.

January has become the month for nominations and the moment came to find out if any member

wanted to run for the year 2012. Ballots were passed out and turned back in and not one new name

was placed on these ballots except for the present officers, so we concluded that there will not be any

changes for 2012. We must be doing a good job and it is very rewarding to work with such a nice group

of ladies.

On March 18th we will have our Annual Chili supper. The tickets will be on sale at our February 1st

meeting and the charge is $7.00 a ticket. This is a fundraiser and after the Chili Dinner we will play the

game “Let’s Make A Deal”, so come on and make a deal. Sounds like a really good time will be had by

all.

After the business part of the meeting we then raffled off, 5 bags given by Tanya Hahn and again, thank

you Tanya for your generosity.

We then played 5 games of Bingo with monetary prizes which everyone seemed to enjoy.

The meeting was closed around 11:00am followed by coffee and pastries.

I will see you at the next meeting on February 1st at 9:30am.

Marielle , President

PS. Continued on the next page is the list of all the agencies we helped in 2011 through our Charity

The Men’s club gathered at the clubhouse on Jan. 5th and conducted a meeting with a

On Feb. 2nd we will have a meeting at 9:00 AM at the clubhouse. Our guest speaker

Looking forward to seeing everyone attend.

AND THEN IT IS WINTER:

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems

just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. And yet in a

way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went.

I know that I lived them all……

And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams…But, here it is, the winter

of my life and it catches me by surprise…How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where

did my youth go?

I remember well…seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were

years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it

would be like…But, here it is…my friends are retired and getting gray…they move slower and I see an

older person now. Many are in better shape than me..but , I see the great change…Not like the ones that

I remember who were young and vibrant..but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now

older folks that we used to see and never thought we’d be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat

anymore…it’s mandatory! Cause if I don’t on my own free will..I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of

Scheduling of the Clubhouse

To schedule a function in the Clubhouse, you must reserve the hall with the Association President first.

In most case’s the scheduled Association events (such as bingo etc.) takes priority over private party

requests. Give at least 30 days to 2 months advance notice for any scheduling and don’t assume the

date is available.

The same thing goes for the Pavillion and the Pool area.

Call the President, Dot Cady for a form that must be filled out for all reservations. This is a must, for just

in cases, of damage etc. and the host/ party holding the event will be held responsible and it must be

noted if alcohol beverages will be used.

If any questions on this procedure, please contact Dot.

CLIMB THE WALLS

"OH, I SURE AM HAPPY TO SEE YOU," THE LITTLE BOY SAID TO HIS

GRANDMOTHER ON HIS MOTHER'S SIDE. "NOW MAYBE DADDY WILL DO THE

TRICK HE HAS BEEN PROMISING US."

THE GRANDMOTHER WAS CURIOUS.. "WHAT TRICK IS THAT?" SHE ASKED.

"I HEARD HIM TELL MOMMY THAT HE WOULD CLIMB THE WALLS IF YOU CAME TO VISIT,"

THE LITTLE BOY ANSWERED.

We would like to thank everyone in the park for their kindness, encouragement (and the

chocolate brownies and cupcakes) and help during our move. We couldn't have done it

without everyone and we feel like we are home. Thanks again.

SOUTHFORK CLUBHOUSE TRANSFORMED INTO

\àtÄ|tÇ gÜtààÉÜ|t (Mary Jo Dye plays the part of an irate Italian Washerwoman) On a recent January evening Southfork's Clubhouse was transformed into a Italian Trattoria for the Mobile

Homeowners Association Annual Membership Drive Dinner.

Residents of the community who had recently renewed their annual dues and those wanting to join the

association for the first time were treated to a free dinner to celebrate their membership in the association.

Italian was the theme for the evening when our guests were served dinner by their Officers and Members of the

Board of Directors and treated to an all-you-can-eat Italian style dinner with all of the traditional trimmings

including spaghetti with meat sauce, meata-balls (like yo' momma used to make) garlic bread, garden salad

(with Italian dressing of course), a nice piece of cake and coffee and iced tea.

After the meal all of the diners were treated to a special appearance of Southfork's own Southfork Jammers,

who just returned from an exclusive three year tour of Europe, Scandinavia and the sub continent (quote from

the Blues Brothers picture show). Under the direction and tutelage of their composers Bella and directors Bella

and Mel Kinney, the rag-tag entourage entertained for close to an hour using their own collection of exotic

instruments featuring a bass washtub, accordian, cymbals, sticks and other assorted paraphernalia and junk.

After several impromptu musical renditions and a couple of sing-alongs an very irate and belligerent housewife

interrupted the program to air some dirty laundry (and believe this reporter, you just had to be there to see

(XXX) that!).

Association President Dot Cady thanked those residents who had renewed their memberships and congratulated

new members for joining. She also recognized past Officers and Board Members along with those currently on

the board for their service. Ending the evening, Ms. Cady thanked all of those volunteers who made the

evening a grand success by telling the audience that all of our residents must be from Tennessee (The Volunteer

State) since we are always fortunate to get our residents to pull together to “GIT-R-DONE' (quoting Larry The

Cable Guy).

4TH ANNUAL HAND AND FOOT TOURNAMENT

The annual Hand and Foot Tournament was held on Saturday,

1/21/2012 at the clubhouse and was again a great success. There

were forty four (44) entrants and the tournament started at 11am

and ended at 2:30 pm.

Everyone brought some type of finger food and we had 3 full tables set up and what a feast of

goodies including sandwiches, other entrees and desserts and coffee. In between and during

the games, everyone took advantage and munched on all the goodies. It looked like a gourmet

spread with so much food and it developed a great party atmosphere and there was enough

food to feed the entire community.

There was a lot of quiet and anxiety at first and when everyone was seated and relaxed, you

could then hear the giggles, chatter and laughter start and then the fun began. It s all in the

cards and well………..we seen what happened and who the winning teams were and there even

a few penalty points on some of the score sheets.

I want to thank Irene Schreier for taking care of checking in all the entrants as they came in and

she passed out the rules with seat position’s to each person. She also did all the verifying of the

sheets and totaling them to make sure all was correct and to see who all the winners were

going to be. I also want to thank my husband, Pat Grossi who kept the coffee going and

helping with the food tables and helped where needed. All supplies including coffee, plates,

condiments, cards etc were purchased by some of the entry fees and the rest went to the

winners. I also want to give John and Sandi, our managers, a great big thank you for setting up

all the tables and chairs. They are there when we need them!!!!

Here are the winners with a total of 10 people.

$40 each to Willie Stoever and Phyllis Grossi. 25,390 points

$25 each to Claire Cox and Jane Martens, 25,085 points

$15 each to Phyllis Fisher and Nancy McCallan, 24,580 points

$10 each to Peggy Elkins and Craig Whitbeck, 23,090 points

$5 each to Betty Laforest and Kathy Myers. 23,070 points

So all in all, a big thanks to everyone who entered the tournament, brought food or helped in

anyway. It was a huge success and everyone is looking forward to next year already. A

successful event is only made when you have great participation! Phyllis Grossi

GOOD SAMARITANS CAUGHT IN THE ACT!

After taking a recent sebatical, and while recovering from other projects, this roving reporter

while on the snoop for another scoop, just happened to meander thru the clubhouse on a recent

Sunday Morning. Lo and behold, while passing by the kitchen I heard some commotion and

thinking we wuz being hi-jacked, just had to stick my head in the door.

Just taking a quick gander around all I saw was stuff stacked everywhere and the dust was just

a-flyin'. Upon closer examination I discovered the lovely Betty LaForest and her fearless

lackey “Wild Bill” amoungst a pile of kitchen plates, plastic silverware other assorted useless

flotsam. There they was, with everything out of the storage closets and in the process of being

sorted and stacking all of that stuff into some kind of reasonable order. In total disregard for

their own personal safety and well being, they had taken everything out of the cabinets, got rid

all of the old empty packaging, other useless articles and even tackled a multitude of cob-webs

and dust bunnies. (Now, I don't know about the rest of you around here but I have always been

pretty scared of those allusive “cobs”)!

Anyhow, later in the day, further examination found the storage cabinets to be in an excellent

semblance of order and free of all of that junk that was in them before.

Once again, this particular situation just goes to show that volunteers abound here in Southfork,

and when the going gets tough the tough get going. If you pass Bill & Betty LaForest around

the park they are certainly owed a hearty “THANK YOU” and pat on the back for their recent

effort in tackling that overwhelming project.
