Bellevue university Athletic SuccessTwo years after the founding of Bellevue College in 1966, the fledgling school adopted the Bruin as its official mascot and proudly displayed it on the uniforms of the men’s basketball and baseball teams – the school’s first sports teams. In 1994, Bellevue College became Bellevue University and joined the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC).

Bellevue University added programs in women’s volleyball in 1989, women’s soccer in 1994, men’s soccer started in 1995 and softball in 1997. The Bruins most recently added men’s and women’s golf which will begin its inaugural season in 2011-12.

The Bruins have won multiple regular season and tournament championships during their 17 years in the MCAC. The baseball team won the NAIA World Series in 1995, while the men’s basketball team played in the NAIA

championship game in 2004 and 2008. Softball won the MCAC regular season and tournament titles for the second consecutive in 2011 and has made five NAIA national tournament appearances. Volleyball made it to the “Elite Eight” at the NAIA national tournament in 2000 and has won four of the last five MCAC Tournament titles and has advanced to four-straight NAIA national tournaments. The women’s soccer team advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history in 2010, while the men’s soccer team qualified for Nationals in 2008 and 2009.

During the 40-plus years of Bellevue University, the Bruins have produced more than 450 MCAC all-conference/district players, 100-plus Region IV honors and more than 60 NAIA All-Americans. along with numerous All-American and all-conference scholar-athletes.

2010-11 — Another Successful YearThe Bellevue University Athletic Department enjoyed another successful year during the 2010-11 campaign, capped off by winning its fifth consecutive Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup, awarded annually to the league’s most successful athletic program. Ed Lehotak was also named the MCAC Athletic Director of the Year.
