Inspired Success

Kennedy’s educational and fiscal progress over the past four years is nothing short of amazing! Innovative thinking and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence have motivated this school community to embrace change and achieve success.

The generosity recorded on the pages of this annual report tells the story of this success. The Kennedy Family faithfully believes in our mission to educate leaders of courage, integrity and dedication in service of God and to the world. The Kennedy Family respects our good stewardship of the financial gifts entrusted to our care. The Kennedy Family is committed to helping our student Eagles soar.

The sound fiscal management of the school’s operating budget should also be evident in the statistics and reporting you will find throughout this report. What is less obvious, but even more important, is the reason why we are successful. Our real success is because Kennedy has heart and its faculty, staff, parents, and students are simply inspiring.

On any given day you can walk the hallways at Kennedy and be inspired . . .

By the dedicated elementary teacher spending long hours afterschool creating a vibrant classroom or hugging the child who needed to know someone other than mom and dad would love them on their very first day of kindergarten.

By the high school administrator who welcomes students outside every morning with a handshake, high-five or hug. Even on cold winter days.

By the faculty member who makes Shakespeare as relevant as Twitter and the faculty member who shares their faith on retreat after teaching the complexities of advanced placement calculus.

By the student who just learned she got into the college of her dreams and shares the news through tears with her faculty advisor. Similarly, by the shared comfortable silence between teacher and student upon receiving not so good news.

By the parent who struggles to pay tuition but proudly wears the Kennedy K and says publically, “I wouldn’t want my child to go to school anywhere else.”

By the student athlete who makes the game winning points and by the student who leads their team gracefully in defeat.

By the staff member who donates their time and money beyond what is expected because they love where they work and treat it like their own home.

By the donor who says, “I was inspired . . . may you inspire others!”

And so it is we thank you for your generosity and for the many ways that you have inspired our good work. We are grateful.

We pray that you will continue to believe in our mission and help us inspire many more generations of Kennedy Eagles.

May God continue to bless you and your family and, as always . . . GO EAGLES!

Brian Sinchak, President 1

COVELLI FAMILY

Mr. and Mrs. Sam and Caryn

Covelli ’71 and family are leaders;

through the funds they generously

donate and the goodwill they

generate. They are donors who

inspire others to do good work. Their Covelli Challenge

Matching Gift Initiative has generated thousands of new

dollars each year by challenging donors to make a new or

increased gift to the Kennedy Commitment. Further,

The Albert M. Covelli Family Scholarship generously helps

families in need of Tuition Assistance. The funds they donate

not only make a difference to a particular family, but foster

a learning environment that supports a diverse student

body. This diversity allows our students to challenge one

another to be the best students and leaders possible.

What Inspires You to Give?

We asked Mr. Covelli and other donors throughout this publication; “What inspires them to give to John F. Kennedy Catholic School”

“Kennedy is not only a tremendous academic institution

but also teaches it’s students values that are applicable

in their lives now and in future years. There are parents

that work hard and make sacrifices to send their children

toCatholic schools and I feel it’s important to provide

scholarships to lessen the financial burden of continuing

their Catholic education. Kennedy is ranked in the top

5% of schools in the whole state of Ohio and in spite of

their high ranking are among the lowest tuition rates of

ALL Ohio schools. Catholic schools have always been an

important part of each and every one of our lives, and

as part of the Kennedy family we need to continue to

financially support the education of future generations.”

JOHN F. KENNEDY CATHOLIC SCHOOL is dedicated to providing its alumni, student families, friends, and community with full financial

disclosure. This publication shares important operating budget summary information and donor acknowledgments for the 2011-2012 fiscal

year (7/1/11 to 6/30/12).

When a gift is made to the Kennedy Commitment, our Advancement Office uses the generous history of support from each donor. Each year a

gift is made, that gift is acknowledged and the donor is moved to the appropriate historical giving class. For the Kennedy Commitment, donors

are also acknowledged by their graduation year. A few other groups are specially noted (corporate matches, faculty and staff and board of

directors) as we felt it important to note the generosity of these special supporters.

Your time, talents, and treasures help to advance Kennedy’s mission and allow us to provide our young scholars with a quality, college

preparatory, Catholic education. Please know that every effort was made to present the Annual Report accurately and inclusively. We

apologize for any omissions. If we erred in not acknowledging you properly, we would appreciate that you let us know and we will include

these oversights in the next Eagle Update, published in January 2013.

Special ThanksThe Kennedy Family appreciates the

generosity of The Class of 1977 and The

Class of 2001 for their generous gifts to the

Kennedy Commitment. These classes held

reunions this year and chose to donate the

additional funds raised as a gift to Kennedy.

Thank you for your support!

Matching GiftsPursuing a company-matching gift from your employer may be the

most dynamic way to help our school and double or triple the

impact of your gift.

Kennedy has been very fortunate to benefit from the generosity

of wonderful national and regional corporations (as well as local

companies) who willingly match their employee’s philanthropic

efforts. We are very grateful to our donors who pursue these

gift-matching opportunities. Ask your Human Resources

department about gift matching at your company.

tuition assistance fund

During the 2011-2012 school year, the Kennedy Family was able to distribute over $240,000.00 to K-12 families with a demonstrated financial need. Over 80% of the expressed need was met. The percentage of need we are able to meet would not be possible without the generous, annual gifts from families and organizations to our Tuition Assistance Fund. We want to take this opportunity to thank the following families and foundations. These gifts play a significant role in making Kennedy affordable for our students and families.

“Catholic Schools have been a part of my life for the past 55 years as either a student,

teacher or administrator. I believe Catholic schools are the most important human

care delivery system on the face of the earth. As part of that system, John F. Kennedy

Catholic School is preparing young people of courage, integrity and dedication to guide

the Catholic Church in spreading the Gospel message to a world desperately in need of

experiencing that message. I am privileged and proud to help make this vital work possible by

supporting the Kennedy Commitment.”

We thank Dr. John Boldan ’84 and his family for their generous contribution of $10,000.00 that served as a groundbreaking gift to Phase I of our Locker Room Renovation Project. Inspired by the wishes of the Boldan Family, Kennedy saw significant improvements to the Boys’ and Girls’ Locker Rooms this summer. Updates included new NATURE STONE® flooring, lockers, drywall, paint and plumbing improvements.

“We feel blessed to have the opportunity to send our son to a school that’s mission and vision supports the beliefs and values of our family.

Although we pay tuition for the opportunity we realize there is a significant gap in the cost between tuition and the actual cost of his education.

We are happy to support JFK fundraising initiatives to close the gap between tuition and the actual cost, and to ensure future generations of

Trumbull County Catholic youths are given the same life changing experience.”

» thank you for making this years auction a success.

We thank the generous Friends and Family who designate John F. Kennedy Catholic School as the recipient of memorial gifts. Listed below are the names of those who have given a gift in memory of a loved one. The funds donated this year made a significant impact in the areas of Tuition Assistance, Athletics and the 2012 “Just for Kicks” Live & Silent Benefit Auction. We thank the following individuals, families and businesses for their kind and thoughtful gifts.

memorial donations

In Your Will There’s a Way

Thoughtful investors want to support solid companies with a good track record, and they want

to see growth and success. Supporting Kennedy is much like making an investment. But in this

case, the returns pertain not to the donor’s pocket, but to the future success of young scholars

pursuing college and careers. Donors “invest” their charitable dollars in this school because

they believe we will continue to yield handsome returns in the community and society at large.

We are looking for that unique donor who is considering including us in their estate plans in

order to invest in the long-term advancement of a success story that continues to bring strong

value and ROI. We hope this Annual Report demonstrates the results of good planning, wise

stewardship and solid leadership.

Planned Gifts are not made lightly; they require prayerful consideration, thoughtful planning and

sound rationale. There are numerous investment tools you can use within your will; including

charitable gift annuities, endowment funds, will bequests and a variety of charitable trusts.
