North Star’s Advanced Placement program, like other excellent ones, knows summer reading maintains skills, increases literary repertoire, and builds confidence. Nothing helps you grow intellectually and personally more than wide, responsive reading of challenging literature. Any of these books will be a wonderful addition to your own collection of great literature. We encourage you to actively read: make your own responses in margins, highlight passages you feel stunned by as beautiful, true, strange, puzzling, controversial, deepening and cool. We will be writing a paper during the first week of class , so it is imperative you get your reading done . All of these titles are adult renderings of human experience. We do not consider them “young adult literature.” Rather, they are college level texts. If you find yourself offended or overwhelmed, feel free to choose any other book from our list.
