Schreiber pediatric offers new and exclusive programs to Children with Special needs

Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center of Lancaster County has been proudly serving children with special needs and their families for over seventy-five years. Anyone familiar with our services knows that our commitment to the quality of care we provide extends beyond just therapeutic services—our clients are like family. We offer educational opportunities, year-round recreational programs, support groups and respite care for parents and siblings, a book and adaptive-toy lending library, and more.

During this past year, we have continued to strive to give the very best care possible by introducing two new programs—an 8-week sensory class for preschoolers and a therapy treatment called Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT). ‘Sensory Talks’ was developed and run by both an occupational therapist and a speech-pathologist. Based on the childhood favorite, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, it was designed for children with sensory issues that impact their daily lives. Each week they explored sight, touch, taste, sound and smell through the journey of the very hungry caterpillar and worked on socialization, fine motor skills, language and more.

CIMT is a new treatment program that is only offered in four facilities in the entire United States! It limits the use of the dominant arm in a pediatric patient in order to strengthen and facilitate movement in the affected arm. In other areas of the country, a two-year waiting list hinders most families from receiving treatment that’s now available for the first time in Lancaster. We have already seen it transform the lives of some very special children.

Of course, these new programs wouldn’t be possible without the generous contributions from caring community members, like you, who believe in our mission...to help children turn their disabilities into abilities. We are incredibly grateful for our individual and business supporters, volunteers, committee members, board of directors, staff and families.
