“ Celebrating Graduates Involved in Civic Engagement & Activism”

Purpose

The Urban League of San Diego County’s Graduation Celebration honors a diverse pool of graduating college

students that have been thoroughly involved in community service and activism throughout their collegiate years.

Event DetailsThe celebration will take place Friday, May 13 from 9:30 am – 11:00am at the University Club located at 750 B

Street, Suite 3400 San Diego CA 92101. The University Club is a private club located downtown atop of Symphony

Towers. Graduating students receive free admission if their application is submitted on time. Admission for

attendees is $25.00, $10.00 for college students not graduating, and $5.00 for high school students. Parking at the

facility cost $2.00 per 15 minutes (plus an additional $2.00 service fee for valet parking) and $29 a day. There are

also parking lots near the property that cost $10 a day and street parking around the property. Registration for this

event is available on Eventbrite (http://ulsdgc.eventbrite.com/) and can be found on Facebook. During the program,

all graduating students will be presented with a medallion and the winner of the essay competition will be awarded.

Essay Competition

The essay competition provides students the opportunity to share their community service experiences throughout

their collegiate years. The winner will be announced at the event and be presented with an award in honor of their

service.

Deadlines

The deadline for attendees to RSVP is May 12th. Applications for graduates are due and are to be postmarked by

May 7th, 2010 by 5:00pm. All applications received after the deadline will be terminated. Please e-mail or turn in

your application to the Urban League of San Diego County located at 720 Gateway Center Dr. SD CA 92102. Also,

check the ULSDC Career College Club Network Facebook Group to see if your school has a designated drop off box

for applications at your campus. Once your application is received and filed, you should receive a confirmation e-

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: Can I apply if I am not African American?

A: The mission and goal of the Urban League is to be inclusive. Therefore, every one of all ethnicities is encouraged

to apply.

Q: I’m not an activist, but I’v e done community service or was involved in a club. Can I still apply?

A: Yes, as long as you were involved in some type of community service. However, those students that were

thoroughly involved with in clubs and organization will be highlighted.

Q: What shouldn’t I wear?

A: Dress code will be strictly enforced, and may result in admission denial if not adhered to. Men must have a jacket

and collared shirt or suit and tie (no jeans). Ladies should dress in business attire with nothing to tight, short, or

revealing.

Q: Can I still apply if I am graduating in the summer or fall semester?

A: Yes, as long as your counselor verifies that you are on track towards graduating this year.
