1. Overview1.1. IntroductionSCMID is an engineering machinery & industrial design competition which is held by SANY, the sixth-largest heavy equipment manufacturer in the world. SCMID aims at encouraging the innovative design of heavy equipments among the university students and cultivating new engineers for the company. Our team's design Reborner, a crane for disaster relief, achieved the excellent work prize in the competition.

2. Design process2.1. PreliminarySANY assigned 5 experienced engineers to conduct the preliminary selection of the designs. The participants were asked to prepare a presentation to show the strong points of their design in 5 min.

2.2. Field studyFinally 30 groups got the chances visiting the company, viewing the process of heavy machines manufacture and being mentored by the engineers of SANY.

2.3. Brainstorming & sketchingOur group got together twice a week, discussing our problems and ideas in a free atmosphere. When we had a good scenairo, we sketched at once to record our idea.

2.4. 3D modeling & renderingWe used PS for visual design. The key point was that the design should fit the culture of SANY, professional, technical, innovation.

3. ScenarioOur design, Reborner was born when it was the first anniversary mourned for the victims dead in the earthquake happened in Yushu. So, we came up with an idea that we could design a crane for disaster relief use. The crane not only should own the functions of the normal ones, but also was specialized at helping the people during disasters by adding some special function and structure on it.

Thus, Reborner met all our demands as it had a changable structure, providing convenience when conducting disaster relief. The machine was also flexible in the ruins.
