Brenda Johnson, from mcallen, TX, received her Bachelor of music Education degree from Baylor University. Upon graduation, mrs. Johnson began her teaching career with

the Plano Independent School District at Haggard and Bowman middle Schools. While teaching in Plano, mrs. Johnson earned a master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, mrs. Johnson is the orchestra director at Hector garcia middle School (Northside ISD) in San antonio, TX. The school has been in existence for three years. In their first year, the Chamber Orchestra received fourth place in the TmEa Honor orchestra Competition. Each year, both varsity and non-varsity groups have received Sweepstakes ratings at UIL Concert/Sight-reading. Since opening, the program has grown to 170 students. mrs. Johnson is also an active clinician/adjudica-tor in the San antonio area and serves as a cooperating teacher for music student teachers from the University of Texas at San antonio. In 2004, mrs. Johnson was one of four teachers in Texas to receive an award for excellence in music teaching named the majorie Keller Young music Educator’s award rewarded by the american String Teacher association. She also serves on the executive board as treasurer for TexaSTa. mrs. Johnson is cur-rently a member of the Texas music Educator’s association, Texas orchestra Directors association, and the american String Teacher association with National School orchestra association. aside from teaching, mrs. Johnson enjoys spending time with her hus-band Walker and one year old son, Jacob.

Currently assistant conductor of the akron Symphony and music director of the akron Youth Symphony, Levi Ham-mer is well known as a conductor and pianist of remarkable

range and versatility. Equally comfortable in a variety of genres and repertoire, he appears regularly as conductor, concerto solo-ist, recitalist, and chamber musician. Hammer spent the sum-mer as assistant conductor at the Castleton Festival, where he prepared Puccini’s Trittico for Lorin maazel and also participated in maestro maazel’s masterclass. 2010 has also taken Ham-mer to Salzburg, where he shadowed the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival as the ansbacher Fellow. With the Boston Philharmonic, Hammer assisted Benjamin Zander as the Zander Fellow, a prestigious conducting apprenticeship. also last season, Hammer collaborated with george manahan at the aspen music Festival and served as cover conductor at the atlanta Symphony. In his role as pianist and harpsichordist, he has recently played with the New World Symphony, mercury Baroque and in several performances of aaron Copland’s complete piano music. He has served as assistant conductor at rice University opera, and was also music director of Hammer music, a series of thematically programmed concerts. Levi studied conducting, piano, composi-tion and languages in both the U.S. and Europe, and his teachers have included conductors Dennis russell Davies, Kurt masur and pianist Brian Connelly. In his spare time he indulges in his obses-sion with fin-de-siècle Vienna.
