Celebrating over two decades of educational leadership in Orange County

This special evening will honor a man who has devoted his life’s work to higher education, allowing our community to say “thank you” and offer our best wishes for a much-deserved and enjoyable upcoming retirement.

Milton A. Gordon’s many years of service to Cal State Fullerton have been impressive. Whether we look to the physical growth of our campuses, the number of former students who are now among our more than 200,000 alumni,

or the dramatic increase in philanthropic support during his tenure, the numbers alone are remarkable.

But his character, his vision, and his leadership are most noteworthy. It is this legacy that will be celebrated during the tribute gala.

More About Our HonoreeBorn in May 1935 in Chicago, Milton A. Gordon received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and

secondary education from Xavier University of Louisiana and his master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Detroit. After earning his doctorate in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology,

Dr. Gordon worked as a mathematician at the University of Chicago’s Laboratory of Applied Sciences. He went on to teach mathematics at the elementary and secondary grades in the Chicago public

school system, and then served as both associate professor of mathematics and director of the Afro-American Studies Program at Loyola University of Chicago.

Dr. Gordon came to the California State University system as a professor of mathematics and vice president for Academic Affairs at Sonoma State University in 1986. He became the fourth president of

California State University, Fullerton in 1990 and has led the university to prominence as one of the nation’s largest, most inclusive, and highly lauded public institutions of higher learning.

This past September, he announced his upcoming retirement after 21 years of service.

Milton A. Gordon Fund for Faculty Research and Creativity President Gordon, recognizing the importance of ongoing faculty scholarly and creative activity

to the life of the university, its quality of education, and the betterment of society, has established a fund to expand support for faculty research and creative work.

Created through conscientious set-asides over time, the now $1-million fund is designed to be paired with private donations to advance this vital work.

While a portion of the proceeds from gala ticket sales will support the fund, if you choose to make an additional gift to the fund and honor Dr. Gordon’s legacy as president,

you may do so using the enclosed reply card.
