Save One Life encourages individuals and organizations to focus their compassion and resources on improving the quality of life of people with bleeding disorders and their families in developing countries. In the past ten years Save One Life has assisted over 1,000 beneficiaries with the generous help of sponsors in the US, Canada, England, Sweden, Italy and Australia. In 2011 Save One Life had its best year yet for sponsorship growth, with a 37% increase in sponsors and a 32% increase in sponsorships. In all, 320 sponsors provided over $195,000 to 900 beneficiaries. A sponsorship is $20 a month; 100% is sent to overseas to pay for education, transportation to clinics, food, medicine and other basic life necessities. Up to 15% is retained by program partners for outreach and services for their members. In addition to sponsorships, Save One Life collaborates with 40 program partners to fund hemophilia camps and a scholarship program. A micro-enterprise program is planned for 2012. Save One Life’s first endowment award was presented to Save One Life sponsor Eileen Morrow for her gift of land valued at nearly half a million dollars. Wolfgang Marguerre, chairman of Octapharma, received the 2012 Sponsor of the Year award and the Hemophilia Association of the Philippines-Cebu received the 2012 Program Partner of the Year award. Kilimanjaro Challenge Save One Life founder Laurie Kelley and daughter Mary, BioRx president Eric Hill, his son Alex and employees Jeff Salantai and Julie Winton, ASD president Neil Herson and his daughters Brittney and Kelly and Kara Ryan traveled to Kenya and Tanzania, for a fundraising climbing expedition. The team visited the Jose Memorial Haemophilia Society-Kenya in Nairobi, met Save One Life beneficiaries, and summited Africa’s highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro on August 10, raising over $66,000. LeadUP! In collaboration with Bob Graham of the Bleeding Disorder Advocacy Network and with funding from Octapharma, Save One Life launched LeadUP!. This youth leadership development program provides small revolving loans to high school and college-age students and youth groups to organize fundraising campaigns for Save One Life. Welcome to Dr. Paul Giangrande from Oxford, England; Eric Hill from High Point, NC; Dutta Satadip from San Jose, CA; John Menapace from New York, NY; Chris Bombardier from Denver, CO; and Bonnie Jean Perkins from Boston, MA. The board held its first day-long retreat in December, establishing new key performance indicators to assure Save One Life’s continued growth and success. Our First Planned Gift We are grateful to Judy Faitek of San Diego, California, who recently designated Save One Life the beneficiary of a variable annuity plan.
