Mapping of the European research community public & private sectors Defining research priorities (Research Agenda) Implementation of research projects funded by the partners Networking research programmes to reduce fragmentation and duplication - 15 funding agencies Networking and interfaces between industry, research, education and training centers, and policy-makers Networking the research community (earth, life, material, environmental, social sciences, economy, engineering, etc) Setting up networks to foster coordinated research covering the whole value chain of non energy, non agricultural raw materials Primary resources Secondary resources Substitution Teaching and international collaboration Policy support & Mineral intelligence Interdepndencies & Tranversal issues cover the entire raw materials value chain including exploration, mining, processing, substitution & recycling, and cross-cutting issues Extraction Mineral processing Resources (reserves) Recycling WP1 Exploration, extraction, processing, recycling WP2 Substitution, alternative functionalities and materials WP3 Improving Europe's raw materials regulatory framework conditions, knowledge base and infrastructure WP4 Improving Europe's recycling regulatory framework conditions and excellence WP5 International cooperation Primary resources Secondary resources Substitution Teaching and international collaboration Policy support & Mineral intelligence Interdependencies & Tranversal issues ERA-MIN Research Agenda EIP Topics (whole value chain) ERA-MIN prepared a roadmap on innovation & research ( > 100 experts from industry, academia, research centers), good synergy with the listed EIP actions. (+) Information about the nature of research (Innovation or basic research), duration (short, middle, long term) Vision (innovation-oriented, link between private and public sectors) (+) ERA-MIN covers basic and non-technology public research as well (TRL 1-3), which is necessary for later innovation and technology transfer Ambitions (Research and innovation for a better management of mineral resources, Network of Research, Education and Training Centres ) ERA-MIN can be a useful and powerful tool to increase the impact of EIP: (+) Network of funding agencies: it will help to insure convergence and synergies at EU level between national research programs and with programs led by the EC. (+) Need to strenghten the link between research and education-training (KIC) Topics ERA-MIN roadmap (+) EIP will improve the capacity to finance research/innovation (ERA-MIN relies on national public funding only ) Vision ERA-MIN covers basic research (TRL 1-3), which is the condition for later innovation. (+) EIP will provide the tools/structure/strategy to turn research into products and services that create growth and jobs. Ambitions Networking public funding agencies will help to insure convergence and synergies at EU level between national research programs and with research programs led by the EC. (++) EIP will provide momentum to the raw materials research that ERA-MIN helps to coordinate. (+) KIC (should not be limited to technological aspects ?) EIP will give a great momentum to the raw materials related research that ERA-MIN participates to coordinate. ERA-MIN can be a useful and efficient tool to increase the impact of EIP actions and insure synergies at EU level. EIP will foster technology transfer and help to turn research into innovation, with the strong involvement of industry. ERA-MIN also covers basic research that will feed innovation, supports the involvement of public research, enlarges the spectrum of topics and challenges, and the diversity of disciplines.
