leadershaveonlow-incomestudents.

ThisreportanalyzesstudentachievementandgrowthdataforGetSmartSchoolspartnerschools.EachschooliscomparedtoitsdistrictandthestateofColoradousingtheTransional

ColoradoAssessmentProgram(TCAP)andgrowthratesoverathreeyearperiod.

TheTCAPtestisdesignedtoprovideapictureofstudentperformancetoschools,districts,

educators,andthecommunity.1However,analysissolelybasedonTCAPscoresdoesnotshow

theenrepicture.Thisisparcularlytrueformiddleandhighschools,asachievementdata

representresultsfromstudentswhomayhavebeenpreviouslyenrolledinlowperforming

elementaryormiddleschoolshavingcomeintoaGSSschooloneormoregradelevelsbehind.

Studentgrowthratesaredeterminedbycombininggrowthpercenlesfromindividual

students,whicharecalculatedbycomparingTCAPscoresoverthreeconsecuveyears.Itisalsoimportanttonotethatstateanddistrictachievementdataincludeschoolswithnofree

andreducedlunchandschoolswithcloseto100%freeandreducedlunch.Schoolsareassessed

usingthesamemetricsratherthantakingintoaccounttheuniquecircumstancesofindividual

schools.SchoolswithhigherFRLratestypicallyhavemorechallengeswithchildrenentering

behindgradelevel,whichrequireslongerperiodsofmetoseeimprovementsingrowthand

achievementdata.

Byincludingbothperformanceandgrowthdatainthereportcard,weareabletoportraya

morecompletepictureofourpartnerschoolscomparedtothedistrictsandthestate.

SchoolDataandPrincipalEvalua>on:Thedatainthisreportarerepresentaveoftheschool,ratherthanoftheschoolleaderGSS

hastrained.Unfortunately,atthismethereisnocomprehensivemethodofevaluang

principalsthatallowsforcomparisonbetweenleaders,asdifferentsystemsareusedineach

districtorschool.AccordingtoarecentstudyconductedbytheGeorgeW.BushInstute,most

stateshaveliletonoinformaonabouthowprincipalsareprepared,licensed,supported,or

evaluated.2Oncemoredatabecomeavailable,GSSwillbeabletoeffecvelyevaluateour

trainedleaders.GSSisconnuallyadjusngthewaywetrainourleadersinordertohelpshape

theperformanceoftheirschoolsinthefuture.
