Myanmar jade with best quality in the world

Dr Ye Myint Swe, Director-General of Geological Survey and Minerals Exploration

Department. Two foreign merchants examining a jade lot at

    2010 Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium.

    Jewellery made of Myanmar jade.

Foreign merchants examining Myanmar jade lots at 2010 Mid-year Myanma Gems

    Emporium.

of jade in the rock werebroken and washed awaytogether with other typesof stones by currents of water. Then, it formed assecondary deposits.

According tosome geologists, based onglaucophane scist, albiteor nepheline stones weretransformed by high pres-sure into Jadeite jade.

Jade can form onlyat collision zone of PlateConvergent boundary of the two huge layers of theEarth. So, todays geolo-gists call serpentintite rock, collisional rock.

    Jadeite jade is

    (from page 16)Jade, unlike

other precious stonessuch as diamond, sap-phire and emerald, is notfound as single mineralcrystal. When we look ata facet of a cut jade stonewith the use of a micro-scope, we can find thatjade is just a type of rock. Therefore, some jadestones are very huge.

Formation of Jadeite jade is Na A1 Si2O6. Its density is 3.33,and its hardness is 7.

High qualityJadeite jade is peculiar toMyanmar due to geologi-cal process. Jade canform only at convergentplate boundaries.

About 200 mil-lion years ago, the Earthwas as the form of Pangaea. Myanmar is

situated at convergentboundaries where IndianPlate and Eurasia Platecollided against each other.According to thegeological research, jadeformed at the place wherethe large layers of the Earthcollided hard against eachother. Due to extreme sidepressure, jade moves upgradually to the surface of the Earth.

Serpentintite rockinfiltrated into it by Jadeitejade stones came undermetamorphism (high pres-sure). Serpentintite rockslate Cretaceous - EarlyEocene is estimatedaround 65 million years.Due to the collision be-tween the two huge layersof the Earth, inner partscame out at very high speedto emerge as mountainranges. Later, heavy layers

found at small amount inGuatemala, California of the US, Japan and Russia. However, the jade foundin those countries is not asgood as MyanmarsJadeite jade in size andquality.

Director-GeneralDr Ye Myint Swe of theGeological Survey and

Minerals Exploration De-partment under the Minis-try of Mines said,Myanmars jade is of bestquality and our countryproduces quality jadelarger than any othercountry. So, Myanmar is

in a position to hold thewhole international jademarket. Chinese constituteone-fifth of the worldpopulation. So, if Myanmar jade has a foot-hold in Chinese market, itis marketable on a com-mercial scale. The strongpoint of Myanmar jade isthat it has better quality

than the jade of any othercountry. He presented a

doctoral thesis on geol-ogy at Yangon Univer-sity in 2004. He was sentto attend courses on min-erals exploration andscientific studies in Aus-tralia, Japan, and the US.From 2007 to 2010, heserved as Professor (Di-rector) of the Post-Gradu-ate Applied Geology De-
