LAKE HAMMOCK VILLAGE RESIDENTS
Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; here’s to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold."

May the New Year bring Joy to your Moments, Happiness to your Days,
Warmth and Laughter to your Home
Lake Hammock Village saw a lot of improvements and additions in 2010……

The RV, Boat and Trailer parking area has been improved Additional lighting around our Clubhouse and Clubhouse parking area

2011 will start with the wooded area behind our village. Since these trees are about 25 years old and should have been thinned out 10 to 12 years ago a professional forester has been contracted to manage and perform this project in accordance to the short and long term plans recommended in the “Forest Management Plan” by Florida’s Division of Forestry. At this time I do not have a start date for this project. If it should be before our January HOA meeting I will send an e-mail with the start date. During the few days they will be working in the wooded area the wooded area, the lake area and paths will be closed to all residents. Also part of this project will include removing trees in our RV/Boat/Trailer storage area and residents who now have a RV/Boat/Trailer in the storage area will need to move your vehicle to the area beside Bill Patelunas’s house or in one of our vacant lots before the start date. As soon as I learn of the project start date I will let you know so you can remove your RV/Boat/Trailer from the storage lot.
Let’s make 2011 the year of the positive.
If you have something nice to say, say it; if not keep it to yourself.
Happy New Year

January is:
January symbols: The snowdrop is the special flower for the month. It often
blooms in the snow. Some people consider the carnation the special flower. The
garnet is the January gem.
January is Hot Tea Month, Thank you Month, Eye Care Month, Volunteer Blood
Donor Month, and Book Club Month
JANUARY: is the first month of the year according to the Gregorian calendar,
which is used in almost all the world today. According to Roman legend, the ruler
Numa Pompilius added January and February to the end of the 10-month Roman
calendar in about 700 B.C. He gave the month 30 days. Later, the Romans made
Januarythe first month of the year. In 46 B.C., the Roman statesman Julius Caesar
added a day to January, making it 31 days long. The Anglo-Saxons called the first
month Wolfmonth because wolves came into the villages in winter in search of food.
The month is named for Janus, a Roman god. Janus was said to have two faces so
he could see behind him as well as ahead. The face looking back was mature and
bearded; the forward looking face was youthful and hopeful. Because of his ability
to see both ways he was named the God of gates and doorways, beginnings and
endings. It seemed an appropriate month to begin the New Year.
In spite of the new beginnings theme so redolent in New Years Day, in film and
literature January is generally depicted as a cold and unforgiving period when the
elements are oppressive and life is sterile. Failed resolutions are a common topic of
conversation. However, the month does have its upside. For American football fans,
there are the play-offs. Newly elected presidents are inaugurated; winter sports
are popular, skiing and sledding and ice skating.
Betcha didn't know this...
Did you know the average child laughs 400 times a day?
And that the average adult only laughs 70 times per day?
Somewhere in the course of growing old we lose 330 laughs.
That's a lot of laughs! So lighten up and laugh!
You'll be much happier. Make 2011 The Year of Laughs.

Holidays in January
New Years Day the primary holiday of January is also the oldest
surviving holiday in the calendar. It has been celebrated since
before 4000 B.C. when it is known that the Babylonians revelled in
the coming of spring. At that time the New Year was placed about
the time of the vernal equinox. It was moved by the Romans to January 1 (in 153
B.C.) far closer to the winter solstice. In Medieval times it reverted to April 1st,
but was switched back by Gregory XIII when he reformed the calendar. It has
long been associated with the tradition of taking on a resolution, changing one’s life
in some small or large way.
Martin Luther King Day became a holiday in the United States in
1983. The famous civil rights leader had his birthday on the 15th of
January, but Congress decided on the third Monday in January as a
way to create a three-day holiday.

A stylish and witty suspense play that combines laughter with thrills. Arthur
Sinclair is a successful world-famous metalist in the tradition of Dunninger. His
beautiful wife Allison plots his murder for the commonest of all motives—greed.
She enlists the aid of a struggling young actor. Her foolproof murder plan cannot
possibly misfire as it's too skillfully inventive—or is it? After all, Arthur (as
everyone knows) has psychic gifts. But does he? Once the killing scheme is set in
motion, the plot begins to twist and turn. Nothing is as it seems. It will take all of
your mental powers to solve this wildly clever and entertaining thriller.

Thanks
A big thank you to Lori Johnsen and her helpers for the
wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner.
We want to thank Donna & Herb Hunt, Tammy Anthis and Phyllis Lennox for the
beautiful decorating of the clubhouse for Christmas.
To my Lake Hammock Friends: Just mere words of thanks are not enough to
express my gratitude for the many acts of kindness, at Bob’s passing away. My
family was so taken with all of you, they consented, “Mom, you are in the right
place. There are so many caring, wonderful people here.” I was “Touched by an
Angel” her name is Tammy, she and Kathy were my rock. They kept me steady
when I wanted to collapse. Walter helped me to keep my faith, at a time when I
felt so empty and lost. Mr. & Mrs. Sharples were there when I really needed them.
The goodness of people never ceases to amaze me. I love you all. You give the
best hugs. Frances Gillian & Family

Ruth Ives Marian Spiegel
Judy Parker Jane Biba
Donna Hunt Nancy Belski

Giving Thanks
Lake Hammock is a community with many talented residents. Some of them give
freely of their time and talents. Andy and Nancy Belski are two of these special
people. They have been teaching a line dancing class to the residents. Planning
each class takes time. They are patient with all of us. Thank you so much for this.
Don and Linda Van Deman also attend some of these classes and offer assistance.
Thank you Don and Linda.
Many residents enjoy bingo in the clubhouse each Thursday. Much planning goes
into this activity. Joyce Ladyman and Judy Dixon have been involved in bingo
activities from the beginning. There are many others who help each week with the
ice cream and selling of bingo cards. Thanks to all of you for making sure this
activity runs smoothly.
This item wouldn't appear in a newsletter without the efforts of Tammy Anthis.
Tammy has been doing a wonderful job of getting the newsletter out. Tammy, the
time you give to this is appreciated.
Many other residents help keep the activities of Lake Hammock running smoothly.
Thank you for your involvement.

Thanks (submitted by Mary Ann Donovan)
Our Lake Hammock Garage Sale that was on November 13th was very productive for
I heard that many residents did quite well with their sales. Thanks to Margaret
Conley & Judy Parker for helping me with the bake sale that netted a total of
$306.65. Plus, we must thank all you wonderful cooks (both women & men) for all
your delicious donations that filled 3 of our tables! We even had folks returning to
buy more if their favorite items once they tasted how good they were! Also huge
thanks to Donna Hunt for helping to put together this project.
Tammy, you are certainly to be congratulated on the super amount of work that you
put in on our Gator Tales and adding all the “extra” information about each month
plus you are always there to give a helping hand with the activities. Ah, youth! I
envy you.
Today Is Mine
“Today is mine. It is unique.
Nobody in the world has one exactly like it.
It holds the sum of all my past experiences and all my future potential.
I can fill it with joyous moments or ruin it with fruitless worry.
If painful recollections of the past come into my mind, or frightening thoughts of
the future, I can put them away.
They cannot spoil today for me.”

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS.... .PLEASE READ!
Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better even
though I have it!!
Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit
Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at
my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up
from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the
garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My
extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk
where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.
22
I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been
searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first
I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and
suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in
the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm
can of Pepsi sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is
still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled
because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll
check my e-mail....
Do me a favor. Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't
remember who I've sent it to.
Don’t laugh your day is coming!!
